Mission: Promotion of cultural arts for residents of oak island, nc
Programs: Ten workshops per year, taught by accomplished local artists, provided free of charge to members of the community. Most topics involve fine arts (watercolors, oils, pastels) but craft topics are also included. The average attendance is 25 artists per workshop (250 artists per year). Project is supported by a matching grant from nc arts council.
art by the shore - annual arts and crafts competition for the public featuring 2-dimensional art forms and 6 catergories of constructive design. Nearly 100 entrants and over 240 pieces of artwork (1,000 in cash prizes and 65 ribbons). The 2 1/2 day art exhibition is attended by nearly 500 members of the community.
teachers' art supply program - each year a school and its art teacher(s) are chosen to receive a gift certificate to art supply stores to purchase needed art supplies. In the past, participating art suppliers have donated additional funds to increase the progam amount. Approximately 2-- students benefit from this program.
high school scholarships - each year, 1 or 2 senior high school students are selected based on their portfolio of artwork to receive1,000 (500/semester for 2 semesters) to pay for college art classes monetary donations to local art organizations to supplort their publically entered and attended art exhibitions. Labor day arts and crafts festival - this program is a fundraising event to fund philanthropic programs but it also serves several thousand members of the public who attend to view and/or buy the homemade artwork of 140 vendors. It is a major event in the oak island community
