I am a behind the scene volunteer for this wonderful rescue. Not only do they help pets find forever homes. They provide therapy wheelchair dogs at Baylor Rehabilitation Center. They work with the At Risk Youth with providing dogs for training. They utilize their bus and building to help other rescues and organizations, which helped save over 500 dogs last year. They never take a break and are always helping animal in need. Wonderful organization!!!!! 4 of mine are OHAR dogs and the other two are OHAR fans!!!

I can't begin to say enough about Oak Hill Animal Rescue. This was my first adoption through a rescue, and needless to say I was unfamiliar with the process not to mention a tad apprehensive. My dog was found on the streets, not exactly looking her best and heart worm positive. Bettye could instantly sense the hesitation and concern in my voice as I've not dealt with a dog with heart worms before. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. Bettye in my mind is a true Angle from heaven. She explained the entire process from how they get heart worms, to healing them and preventing this from ever happening again . She assisted me through the entire months long process and provided everything I needed to make my girl well again. Bettye and her husband Jim, truly love animals and their desire to protect them is evident in everything they do. It's been 2 yrs since my adoption and still think of them when I look at my beautiful healthy Great Pyr. My husband and I will always be grateful for their support, guidance and always positive encouragement .

I've known Bettye and Jim Baker with OakHill Animal Rescue for 20 years. They run their organization with integrity. Every single animal they take in are cared for until they find their home. They work 24/7 365 and sometimes 24 hours a day. They have high qualifications for the homes they find. As it should be. I don't know of a better organization, giving with their heart and soul and every penny they can muster up to care for each and every single dog or cat that have been fortunate to end up with them. Their volunteers work tirelessly. All rescue groups should follow their example!

Adopted a precious dog with the assistance of Ms. Bettye and her crew. Our girl is a Pyrenees mix and heart worm positive. With Ms. Bettye's guidance and support, she is now being treated. She's thriving in our home and I have no doubt in my mind this is because of the support I have received from the OHAR people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

In 2020, during Covid, our Golden, Cody, lost his fur-sister, Ginger to cancer. He doesn't do well on his own and needed another strong dog with him. I worked with Bettye Baker and Maggie Cherry from Oak Hill Animal Rescue and they connected me with Rusty. He was a very strong dog (I tell him he needs younger parents!), but we were up to the challenge! We have watched him transform into a very sweet boy who loves everyone. He is keeping us active and we are enjoying him very much! He and Cody are best friends and are enjoying life. Thanks OHAR for bring Rusty in to our lives!

We were looking for a friend for our 7year old Golden, who had recently lost his sister. He always needs another strong dog to give him confidence. We saw Julie online and reached out to see her. She turned out not to be the right one for our Cody, but owner Bettye Baker found us Rusty (FKA Gordo). He has turned out to be a perfect leader for our Cody. In the middle of COVID, the process was easy and convenient. This is a great rescue group and I highly recommend them if you're looking for a new furry friend!

The staff at Oak Hill truly love what they do. I was looking for a playmate for Melanie my other rescue dog. She came from a a severe abuse case where over 100 dogs were involved. When I approached the staff at Oak Hill they recommended Gibson, an army crawling ball of energy. He and Melanie have become the best of friends. I can’t thank Oak Hill enough for bringing Mel Gibson together.

I spent 2 hours in Rockwall looking for the perfect dog and found him. The people were very nice and hard working and very excited when I said that I wanted the dog. I have recently lost three of my very loved pets. Buddy who was 9 died of cancer after doing everything that I could do to save him which required a lot of tears and money. He was my child. Simon the cat who I also loved got hit by a car because he was friends with the neighbors and instisted on going outside. 2 Cents came to me a little over a year ago from Louisiana and already had heart worms and I did everything that I could do to save him which was his first injection and heart worm prevention. His sweet little body couldn't handle it and the vet sent him home unable to breathe so I immediately took him to the ER but he was suffering so I had to put him down. I spent thousands of dollars trying to save them but I couldn't. My heart has been broken because this all happened within weeks of each other. I completely understand why the heart worm prevention is so important and because of what I went through with 2 cent I would never have another pet and not give them heart worm prevention. I do however believe that the people who run this rescue should take other things into consideration. I only gave Buddy prevention a couple of times and luckily he never got it, however the dog I wanted would have went to the best home with the most loving family and if you can investigate my vet and home you can also call references, look at my facebook and see what this dog has missed out on. Next time instead of of letting me stay there two hours tell people before they walk through the door that if you havent given your pet heart worm prevention then you don't qualify. That dog should be in my bed living his best life and not in a kennel. They are animals that people discard like garbage and I had to leave crying my eyes out. I have so much respect for the couple that runs this organization but it's sad that good people like my family get turned down for a simple mistake. We could buy a dog but I have always adopted. the lady all but ripped up my application in my face while crying my eyes out. Do better, FYI someone can get a perfect review from the vet and still not take care of the animal that they get from you. It is sad. A call to 2 vets and Mrs. Dee at Rockwall urgent care about 2 cents would have told you more about me and the love for my dog then the absence of heart worm prevention. I don't even want a dog anymore because it hurts too bad and this was another loss. I do not want a response from you, I just want others to know to ask questions before they even get to the application process or tell them before they pick an animal.

I am a foster for Oak Hill and have been one for over three years now. I have helped at least 8 dogs go from foster home to adopted home through their rescue. I have a few adopters who still share pics with me and I love the follow up! They take great care in screening adopters to make sure all pets find that perfect loving home! Oak Hill also provides outreach services and education as well as taking in dogs from local shelters. I truly enjoy fostering for this rescue. All dogs are treated with compassion and get the medical care that is needed to help them on their journey!

I have been a volunteer, foster, and adopter with Oak Hill for about 8 years now. I believe in their philosophy and feel our beliefs regarding animal adoptions are inline. Very thorough adoption process, its about placing the dog or cat into the right home the first time, NOT to just anyone. Great saying in rescue, "We have already rescued them once, would prefer not to have to do it twice"... But we will.

Great rescue. I’ve had the opportunity to view this organization from the perspective of a volunteer, a foster and a foster fail. The love Bettye and the volunteers have for these animals is demonstrated on a daily basis. Attached is my little Sophie. I reached out to Oakhill over 5 years ago in search of a female black lab/mix. Within a week, Bettye had found our sweet "Cash". They made the adoption process very easy, even though they were thorough. I've even kept in touch with OHAR and Bettye throughout the years. There is an OHAR Alumni group on social media and a large group of families that adopted from OHAR share photos and stories of their adoptees. We're our own little community. Thank you Bettye & the rest of the Team at OHAR!

My house became a home when I crossed paths with OHAR and met Nemo and Frieda back in 2012. I had never been a dog owner and I was nervous bringing not one but two quite large dogs into my life. They were pair bonded and for their wellbeing you couldn't take one without the other. I've never been one to take the leap and do something I wasn't sure about but something about those dogs just felt right and I went for it. Jim and Bettye were incredible throughout the whole process and the fact they had confidence in me to be a good dog mama was all I needed! Nemo and Frieda blessed my home for the next 8 years and recently crossed that rainbow bridge within a few months of each other. OHAR showed compassion to me through those hard days like no one else could. They are an incredible organization I will be forever grateful to for keeping my furbabies safe until we could find our way to each other.

This is Lizzie and Riggs, both adopted through OakHill in Rockwall, TX. We found OakHill through just a regular search on the internet and decided to check them out. Best decision we made. We could not be more impressed with the care that they gave our new adopted dog Rosco (aka Nice). He was so well trained. They took the time to teach him how to sit, shake, lay down, roll over, fetch. He is so much fun. He loves to play with our bloodhound and is full of energy and also loves to cuddle. He is exactly what I was wanting in a dog. Thanks so much for loving him and taking such good care medically as well. The process was detailed and they made sure we are a good fit and even checked with our vet to make sure we take good care of our pets. That says a lot to me because they care so much for these animals.

I first heard about Oak Hill Animal Rescue when I lived in Grand Prairie, TX. I had found a small, neglected puppy and, because I have cats, knew I could not keep him, and would NOT put it into the animal shelter to be "put down". My neighbor did volunteer work with Oak Hill and suggested I contact them. I did, they took the puppy and found it a wonderful home. The next few months I attended Oak Hill's adoption events they hold every week. So many animals find wonderful homes thru Oak Hill.. The Oak Hill people interview carefully to make sure the "babies" are going to good families. Last winter, when it was really bad, the owners of Oak Hill lost heat in their home BUT made sure the animals in their care in the kennels had heat. They took portable heaters so the animals would be kept warm. They love the animals, care for them, keep them if they don't find homes. They have a dog that has "wheels" for back legs that they take to children's hospital to show the kids. The owners of Oak Hill Animal Rescue devote all their time and energy to helping the animals. Great group!!!

I did foster work with Oak Hill for a couple of years. I took care of rescued dogs until they were spayed / neutered and returned to Oak Hill for adoption. GREAT organization!! Their love and care of the animals is amazing!! The sacrifices they personally make for the "babies" is to be admired. Last year their heating went out. Instead of getting the house heat repaired, they had the kennels done first. Now that is true love for the animals under their care. I would still be doing work with them except my husband became very ill and all my time is now taking care of him. Wonderful organization!!!

I stumbled upon the OHAR rescue event in Rockwall one Saturday, after I had met a dog in a city shelter that wasn't a good fit... I was broken hearted, as my search for the perfect companion wasn't as successful as I hoped it would be.

As I walked through the event, there were many dogs to choose from but none really spoke to me... until I turned the corner toward Indy. If you know him, you know he howls and yodels if he doesnt get what he wants... and what he wanted that day, was me! He captured my heart!

OHAR made the process easy and convenient. They brought Indy to my home the very next day for his 7 day trial period. I was nervous to have a dog in an apartment, and so was his foster mom... but in the end, Indy loved it here. Now he loves to sleep in, play at the dog park, and protect the balcony from those pesky squirrels. I couldn't ask for a more perfect companion. Thank you OHAR for saving Indy, and giving me the chance to love this sweet boy!

I adopted two senior dogs from Oak Hill Animal Rescue. They brought them to the house for a “trial” run and had a wealth of knowledge to share about each dog’s personality. One had just finished heart worm treatment at the agency’s expense. They provided medical records, current shot information, heart worm preventative, and numerous toys and supplies. Both dogs are chipped with OHAR data so if a dog is ever lost or surrendered, they will go back to the agency that truly cares for them. This group is not in it for the money or glory; they all love the pets!

I had my first experience with OHAR when my parents adopted their Catahoula mix, Lydia, from Oak Hill and then again when they adopted their Boxer mix, Opal, from them about a year later. When it came time for my husband and I to adopt our first dog together there was no question as to where we would be looking first. We worked with Bettye to find our perfect dog with just the right temperament. It was important to me that we adopted a dog that had the potential to be a therapy dog in the future. Bettye recommended we take a look at Brooks. I instantly fell in love with Brooks, but it took our male Chihuahua mix, Parker, took a little more time to be convinced. Bettye was gracious enough to allow us extra time to get our two other dogs accustomed to Brooks and even recommended a dog behaviorist. We were able to see results within the first week of following the behaviorists' recommendations! Soon after, we were able to welcome Brooks into our family and now he is working with me as a certified therapy dog. We truly appreciate all of the work that OHAR does and their dedication to place pets into fur-ever homes. Our family truly wouldn't be complete without our three OHAR rescues!

OHAR is the best of the best. Below are my OHAR babies. I have fostered and adopted. They work tirelessly for love of the dogs and stretch every penny. They share their meager resources with other rescues like using their bus to transport dogs to the airport for freedom flights...other states for adoptions. Lots of work involved to prepare for long flights. Always in need of donations, fosters and volunteers. All are immediately taken to a vet, vaccinated, chipped and groomed and spayed or neutered. Fosters and adopters are vigorously vetted. They are the gold standard. Please donate and help them help more precious lives.

They are a fantastic organization. The animals and their needs are their top priority. I recently adopted 2 chihuahua puppies from them and could not be happier. Oak hill needs our help so much. They work such long hours all got love if the dogs. I would encourage anyone to contribute even a small amount to them. They manage to stretch each dollar to the limit so the dogs have good food, vet care and loving individual attention. Please help them to help more animals in need. Bettye, I think you are awesome! I adopted my dog Patches from Oak Hill and I've got to say, these people are AWESOME! Not only was my girl well-trained through one of their programs, but they are the nicest people on the planet. I ran out of her special food before getting to the vet when I first got her and they drove 45 minutes into Dallas and brought it to my job for me - for free! I truly cannot get enough of these wonderful humans and the animals they rescue. Thank you Oak Hill!

I'm a volunteer, donor and adopter. Oak Hill has always gone above and beyond for the pets they save. They have superb customer service and do incredible things for the community. Oak Hill rescued our sweet Lexi from a small, rural shelter. They provided her with heartworm treatment and had her spayed so she’d never be used for breeding again. Lexi wouldn’t have made it out of the shelter if it wasn’t for Oak Hill.

I have always been very impressed with how thorough they are with the adoption process. Making sure the pets go to homes that are right for them. They were very helpful when a family member adopted from a shelter and later found the dog was not only pregnant, but heart work positive. They helped keep them all together until the puppies could be adopted and made sure they all went to good homes.

We came upon Oakhill in December 2009. We had gone to a pet store to buy bones for our chihuahua when we saw a very calm, docile black mouth cur mix in a crate chewing on a bone. We weren’t even looking for a new dog, but knew that he was our fur baby! His name is Dezi, and he has been the best dog we have ever had! We had a very good experience with the adoption process. The owners are very kind, professional, and selfless!! They love dogs and do their best to ensure that each Oakhill animal goes to a good home! After 5 years, we also adopted another Oakhill dog, Lucy. We love our dogs and we love Oakhill! We would recommend Oakhill to anyone and will certainly return for future adoptions.

I volunteer at a very small city shelter that is inadequate for the size of our community. Oak Hill has stepped up on numerous occasions to help us in our time of need and rescue animals not only from our shelter but also from our county. The most recent was a beautiful yellow lab named Callie who we found out was expecting a litter of puppies. This whole family had a chance thanks to Oak Hill Animal Rescue. Our city and our county owe them so much! Thank you Oak Hill for being there when we needed you!

Over the course of the last 10 years, I've volunteered with several local rescues (from the best to the worse). I am currently a volunteer & donor with Oak Hill Animal Rescue. They are one of the best all breed rescues out there. Many of the shelter dogs they pull are in immediate danger of euthanasia due to overcrowding. Oak Hill gets them back on their feet again, makes sure they're spay/neutered, fully vaccinated and completely healthy, then and makes every possible effort to match them with their perfect furever home, including a 1 week home trial period before adoption if finalized. The attached video was taken at our weekend adoption center. The pix are my 2 fosters (FELIX & RUDY) currently seeking furever homes of their very own.

Sorry for the long post but this makes me so mad. This is in response to me asking about help with our dog that bit our baby a week ago. We’re trying to be responsible and to make sure our dog goes to a good home but this is the reason people don’t go to rescues to surrender animals. They try to make you feel like a horrible person and are judgmental and condescending.

Miss X,
I'm sorry to hear this but it wouldn't be the first time I've heard it. And while I know we tend to trust our vet's opinion, they're rarely dog behaviorist and often make these statements (in my opinion) out of order. I can't convince you otherwise, but I can and will recommend someone who could better judge that situation for you; if you're interested. If you're not, then I must give you a reality check. I'm sorry if this is too candid but I get these types of emails every day of the week and have to explain.....the reality is all rescues were built to get dogs out of city shelters who are about to die because the shelter has run out of room. They've been there too long and more dogs just keep coming in....dogs just like yours.

So owner surrender dogs who are being rehomed because of behaviors can't be and aren't our priority. No rescue was built to wait by the phone or wait for emails for people to surrender their pets. Every rescue's mission is to save lives of dogs and cats who are already set to die...just for lack of space. So the reality for us is; of the two dogs I tagged tonight who'll be put down at noon tomorrow; which one should I let die to take yours? Not a decision you or anyone wants to make, is it? More important, rescues depend on foster homes to save these dogs, so if we use a foster home for your dogs, where do we put the dogs set to die? You should also be aware that if you opt for the shelter, owner surrender dogs are the first dogs euthanized when the shelter fills up. Why? All strays have a "hold" put on them while they have to wait for someone to come looking for them. The owner surrender dogs...well, they know you're not coming back. Owner surrenders have set on the couch watching Netflix or cuddling in your bed and being put in a city shelter is really no different from you or I being sentenced to Huntsville Prison and walking in to that noisy and scary environment. While people don't bite or nip out of fear....that's what dogs do instinctively to protect themselves from this terror; which only serves to escalate their place on the EU table as they're deemed "fearful" and not adoptable.

So two things; if you want the name of the dog behaviorist we recommend to see if you can get to the bottom of this problem, let me know and I'll send that to you. If your ultimate decision is the city shelter; do these pets a favor and take them to this vet and have them put down with you by their side. Death at the end of a pole with stranger is not what they deserve.

Bettye has helped me many times since then with dogs in need. Not only has she helped with re homing pets that need a new home but has also helped us save dogs from euthanization here in the city of Crandall. She has helped dogs that no one else would. I know she also saves dogs from other shelters and from the streets as well. Oak Hill saves young pups, big dogs, small dogs and seniors. I have interacted with OHAR on two levels; adopter and foster parent. OHAR goes above and beyond to make sure that the pets it adopts are the best possible fit. OHAR always wants the best for their pets and will always take them back if something insurmountable occurs, but they give adopters support services to help them keep the pet. Some pets need more TLC than others, but EVERY pet is worthwhile and priceless... all they want is a forever home. OHAR uses every dollar for pets... there are no fancy admin offices, benefits, etc. Donations really are for animals only. Please consider supporting these fantastic volunteers and their heroic efforts to save lives.

This rescue group and those associated with it have no moral or ethical compass when it come to the human aspect of adoptions. What this group has allowed to happen on their public forum is distasteful, unethical, and outright dangerous. Allowing an outlet for ones personal information to be posted and then allowing people who are completely unaware of the on goings of this adoption to post hate and violence against another person regardless of the circumstances. At the end of the day this was entirely the fault of this pathetic group of hate mongers that call themselves a rescue operation. Let it be known that I will be attending every public event that this group has to let the people know what they are in for and to show the side of this group they don't want you to see. Sad that dogs will pay for the lack of responsibility this group has but they must be shut down in order for good rescues to maintain their integrity. REPOST AND DO NOT GIVE THIS RESCUE MONEY FOR IT WILL ONLY COMPOUND A LARGER PROBLEM!!!!!!

When my parents passed away, they left behind their beautiful Great Dane, Sabrina. Most of my family members either lived in apartments (not suitable for dogs of that size) or already had multiple pets who did not get along well with my parents' Dane (several of us tried). So, with broken hearts, we were tasked with finding a home for this sweet, senior dog. A friend of mine (who works closely with animal shelters) put us in contact with Bettye Baker at Oak Hill Rescue. We struck gold with Bettye. She worked with us, diligently, to try to find a suitable home for Sabrina. When she couldn't find a home for her, she and her amazing husband took Sabrina in and made her their own personal pet. They took incredibly good care of her and loved her. They were patient and worked hard to build a bond with her. Bettye was even so kind as to send me pictures and updates. They took on a charity case, when no one else in the world would. I cannot speak highly enough of Bettye and the work she does at Oak Hill Rescue. The love and compassion she showed towards Sabrina speaks volumes as to the kind of compassionate person she is and what kind of a loving organization she runs. Thank you to Oak Hill Rescue, for everything! You were a blessing to Sabrina and our family.

This is a really good rescue organization. Shortly after our beloved dog died we found a special puppy online that we knew we wanted to adopt. Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. had rescued her and placed her into foster care because she was going to be euthanized the next day by municipal services.

Oak Hill considered our application carefully to be sure we were a good match for our chosen puppy as their goal is to place pets into forever families. We agonized for a few days awaiting a decision as to whether we would be approved for this puppy. When she was at last brought to us and our home was deemed safe and appropriate for her we got to keep her for a trial period. We of course knew that it would work, but still it was nice to be certain.

Once our application to adopt this puppy was approved we found the staff lovely to work with. The organization is earnestly dedicated to saving as many dogs and cats as they can and assuring a loving and safe family placement for each. They had of course provided her immunizations and micro-chipped her. Spaying and neutering is required at the appropriate age and is provided free if the adoptive family chooses to use Oak Hill's resources. Or, if the family chooses to use their own vet they may receive a $50.00 voucher instead.

I highly recommend Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc. for a really good experience in finding your newest family member on four feet.

She was so kind and helpful and assisted me in finding other shelters and rescues to call. We had an outstanding experience adopting our "fur baby" from Oak Hill! Last year I saw one of their foster dogs on Facebook, immediately contacted them and filled out an application. Oak Hill is very pro-active in making sure their dogs are a good match with the family. This happens after the application is approved with home visits, which enables the family to see "first hand" how the potential adoptee will interact with the rest of the family (children, other pets, etc.). My husband and I were very impressed with their genuine love and concern for their rescues...and if and when the time comes, we will return to Oak Hill for another "fur baby" to add to our family.

After recently losing a pet, my husband and I decided to adopt/rescue another small dog. I searched for weeks and left numerous emails and inquiries on various pet rescue sites and bred rescue organizations. Bettye was one of the few individuals who responded to my inquires. Not only did she send me information on dogs available for adoption, but she kept me informed as new adoptions meeting my criteria became available.

What a wonderful, dedicated individual Bettye is; and her love for saving lives goes without saying.

I have volunteered with Oak Hill Animal Rescue as an adoption event volunteer, transporter, photographer, and temporary foster. I can't say enough good things about all the wonderful work the people at Oak Hill are doing to save the lives of helpless and abandoned animals in Dallas. Oak Hill takes animals from the euthanasia lists at local shelters and gives them a second chance at life. It's all run by volunteers who truly love these animals and want to relieve their painful situations.

My husband and I had been wanting to adopt a dog for awhile but were waiting for the right fit. We constantly surfed the Humane Society websites and those of other organizations but Oak Hill Animal Rescue proved to be our favorite by far. Their staff/volunteers were extremely professional and caring; they clearly knew a lot about animals and the adoption process. Not just that but they were incredibly dedicated to ensuring all adoptions ewre a good fit as seen by the way they brought pets out for a home visit and allowed them a brief stay to test the waters before finalizing the adoption. This really proved to us that they prioritized the well-being of the animals above anything else. Additionally, they offered to let us call or reach out with any questions on animal behavior, training, etc!

We ended up adopting Rosy, a german shepherd mix who was about 1.5 years old. She's an angel, truly. We couldn't be happier! We love Rosy so much and definitely love OHAR for taking care of her so well before we adopted her.

This is such a great organization. I've worked with them for about a year and the owners and staff work tirelessly to save and help our fur friends. I've fostered 2 dogs with them so far and what a great experience it has been!! Probably one of the most rewarding experiences I've had to date. The staff are in the shelters on a daily basis saving lives. Great people!!

I have fostered one puppy through Oak Hill rescue and have helped at the adoption events. They are one of the most compassionate groups I have ever volunteered with! They will move mountains to rescue as many animals as possible, including those that are injured and unlikely to make it out of the shelter otherwise!

Back in Nov of 2014, I started to help OHAR on Friday nights to set up crates for Saturday adoptions and most recently have taken over the photography work and getting the dogs posted on FB. In August a staff position at the shelter opened up, so I’ve also been helping there. I have been in awe of how wonderful all the people, volunteer and workers, are there. They all have big hearts and really go out of the way to help animals in need. I have become friends with an amazing group, both two legged and four legged. :)

My experience with Oak Hill has been wonderful! From day one Bettye Baker, the Executive Director, was quick to answer my emails and answered any and all questions I had about the process (and I had a lot!). After much extensive research online and debating between dogs with my husband, we visited one of the Pet Smart locations where they host weekend adoption events. The dogs all had clean water and looked well fed and taken care of there were also plenty of volunteers available . The volunteers were knowledgeable about some dogs but not with all, but I was able to get information from Bettye's husband. The following day (Sunday) Bettye brought a dog we'd fallen in love with at the event to stay with us for a week for a trail period. However, this dog's personality completely changed from how he was at the adoption event. At the event he was playful and snuggly and even fell asleep in my husband's lap but within two hours of being in our home he bit my four year old son, my husband twice and myself. Needless to say we couldn't keep him. Bettye was very kind and understanding and retrieved the dog a few hours later and offered to bring the other dog we were considering the following day. Second time was the charm and we LOVE our new furry family member! He's sweet, cuddly, playful and gentle with my son. All of their dogs come micro chipped and spayed/neutered and up to date with shots and such and most are crate trained. After the trail period is up we will definitely be adopting from Oak Hill. Bettye has been as transparent as possible about the adoption process as well as flexible. You can tell she sincerely cares about the animals and the type of home they are going to.

I was glad that they did because now we have our beautiful baby at home. I am glad they were so understanding and helpful. I will go to Oak Hill from now on and would recommend anyone else to do the same.

Oak Hill Animal Rescue and Mr. and Mrs. Baker are top notch when it comes to the care and placement of animals. Their concern is to find the right home for the animals; what I mean by "right" is a good fit for the animal and for the adopting family.

Oak Hill offers trial visits, and in our case, Mrs. Baker drove the prospective dog to our house and stayed with us for about an hour and a half.

They also offer obedience training for dogs and the program utilizes at-risk youth as trainers, all under the supervision of a certified trainer. So not only are the dogs benefiting, so are the youth of our community as well.

I truly cannot say enough good things about Oak Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Baker, their concern for the animals they care for, their commitment to them and towards saving their lives.

My name is Cameron and I did have the pleasure of working with Bettye and Maggie in adopting the greatest pup EVER named buddy. it was very easy to work with Bettye in arranging the at home visit so I could meet my future companion and they made full effort to make it happen. I did live about 45 mins away and they had no problem bringing buddy my way. I met Maggie the day she brought him to home and she was a very kind women that truly cared about what she was doing for these animals. Once she left and it was just me and buddy, he was a little nervous but got very comfortbale very quick. His manners were instilled naturally and he had a loving personaltiy that was not forced it is who he naturally is, which truly showed me how much they do care for these pups. I can really say nothing negative about this organazation. I can only rave about it.

We recently adopted our newest member of the family during an adoption event sponsored by Oak Hill at our local PetsMart in Rockwall, Tx. It was a great experience from beginning to end and Bettye & volunteer, Maggie were just wonderful to work with. What impressed us the most was how much they care for all their animals. They don't let these four-legged kids go home with just any one. Their adoption process is thorough to ensure these pets go to the right people and right homes!

We encourage you to visit their website, and go to PetsMart on Saturdays and meet these wonderful people and if you are serious about adopting a pet, they have amazing dogs & cats who are waiting for you to take them home!

I recently found a cute little puppy in our neighborhood who my boyfriend and I almost hit while he was running across the street. After searching the neighborhood and asking all around with no luck, I took him to Banfield Pet Hospital to see if he had a chip. The little guy didn't have a collar either and we found out he had no chip. I just happened to be at PetsMart/Banfield when Oakhill Animal Rescue was having an adoption event so I decided to see what they could do to help me. After speaking with one volunteer she referred me to Bettye. I quickly could tell that Bettye and the volunteers were doing this out of complete love for animals and they would take very good care of this little guy and make sure he went to a very safe and loving home. I wish I could have kept him but I already have two dogs and I travel a lot so a puppy was not in my future at the moment, however, I did want him to be safe and to find a safe and loving home. Bettye agreed to take the lil guy and they sent me an update on his progress the next morning. I will be following him on their Facebook page to see when he is adopted and how he is progressing until he finds his forever home. Whether you are a volunteer looking for a great place to volunteer or a donor looking for a great charity to support, I would HIGHLY recommend this rescue. It is clear that they care very deeply about the dogs they rescue.

My daughter and I adopted our cat from Oak Hill Rescue in 2010. Our dog had recently died of old age and we had moved to an apartment. We decided it was time to get another pet. We had only had dogs in the past, but decided a cat would be a good choice since we had no yard.
I had a very specific request for Jim and Bettye. I wanted a cat with a friendly "dog-like" personality and not reserved as cats can sometimes be. Bettye told me that she would bring the cats that she thought fit what I was looking for.
The next weekend, my daughter and I met Reese, who is now renamed Lucy. Bettye chose perfectly. Lucy greets us at the door when we come home. She generally wants to be in the same room we are in. She "answers" us when we talk to her. We love her more now than we did 3 years ago. I was impressed with the home visit that Bettye made a week after we brought Lucy home. She also called me periodically to make sure that Lucy was adjusting well. She was available by phone or by email to answer questions that I had.
Jim and Bettye are kind and loving. Their hearts are definitely in the work they do. The animals are clean and well taken care of. I appreciate the time they committed to find the perfect pet for us.

We recently found a beautiful terrier/boxer mix from Oak Hill Animal Rescue. We had never heard of the organization before so we did not have any expectations about the organization. Their web site is well laid out and has lots of links to educational information related to adopting/raising dogs and cats. We went to see the dog of interest at the PetSmart in Rockwall and decided to adopt. The volunteers were very helpful and the paper-work was straight forward and not too cumbersome. They did, however, explain that they do not allow same day adoptions so we were slightly disappointed. When Betty Baker came out later with our dog to check out our house and set-up we were impressed with her wonderful way with the dog, enthusiasm for rescue animals, and tremendous knowledge of raising dogs. She had several great suggestions for training and cost effective veterinary services. And she also explained the purpose of waiting at least a day before adopting as some people will change their minds and the wait allows that to happen and avoids having a dog abandoned again. Bettye also told us about her work connecting dogs with at risk youth. Her commitment to community really is second to none.

I adopted my baby girl about 5 years ago. She was rescued from the streets of S. Dallas and had puppies. By the time I met her, her puppies were already adopted out. She was shy but sweet. Chula is a healthy girl and very well behaved. She has proven you can teach an old dog new tricks. Her little run is so funny we can't stop laughing. Which...she doesn't seem to mind. The adoption process included a home visit which I really understood. Betty doesn't just go get dogs from the street and show up anywhere charging adoption fees. Chula had been to a vet first to check for worms and get fixed. She was very well cared for and loved immediately. To this day, if I have questions regarding anything animal...Betty is always willing to go out of her way to help me. Ironically no matter how long it's been since she's seen Betty, she always remembers them. I guess she remembers the help and love and care she received from Oak Hill Animal Rescue.

Jim and Bettye Baker are the most special of people, to purchase and build this animal rescue, and take on the rehabilitation of some of the toughest of cases. Through them I found Skippy, my rat terrier mix, who was given a poor prognosis after a large dog attack left him with a punctured lung, and a damaged leg. Jim and Bettye are the most dedicated people who work tirelessly to care for the animals. Through Bettye, we found Dixie, a female beagle who was seven when we adopted her. She was a wonderful dog, so loving and sweet, and when she passed away, we adopted Odie through OHAR. Odie is two years old, a male beagle, very playful and loves to cuddle. His life was literally saved by Jim and Bettye from another shelter that doesn't follow the "no-kill" principle, so my husband and I are grateful and happy to give him his "forever home." Oak Hill Animal Rescue is professional, all the animals have their shots, are spayed/neutered, and receive lots of TLC from Jim and Bettye as well as the volunteers. I also volunteered two years ago and only stopped due to moving away from the area; working with everyone was a pleasure!

I wanted a dog for quite some time, but it took a while to convince my husband to get one. We are both particular so we had to compromise on what we were looking for. Anytime I saw an adoption some where I would look for "the one" to bring home. We checked out Petsmart one day and there was Oak Hill Animal Rescue where I met Bettye and her team. Maple was also there - the pup for us, a German Shepherd mix. I didn't fill out the application that day, but did over the weekend and had it on standby. Unfortunately, we were going out of town the following week so we didn't think it was a good time to get a puppy. A month later, after thinking Maple was long gone, I found her online through Petfinder. I immediately called Oak Hill to make sure she was actually still adoptable and Bettye assured me she was. She told me anything they post on Petfinder is always up to date. I met with Bettye that Saturday at Petsmart, turned in my application, and we set a time for our home visit. Prior to our home visit, Maple had some wounds on her back from her litter mates. Bettye took great care of her while she was still at the rescue shelter and was actually going to keep her longer because she didn't want to give a puppy away in the condition she was in. I loved that Bettye cared so much about Maple to want to keep her until she was all better so that we didn't have to worry about her. I also love the fact that they do home visits because they really are concerned about where the animals are going. Working with Bettye and Oak Hill has been a pleasure. They made the process very easy. AND...we just love our Maple! I'm so glad she was still there :-)

My husband I and I had just lost our Golden Retriever Jake to old age about a month and a half ago and our hearts and our home have just not been the same. Our daughter Ashley had just been at Petsmart where she seen Keisha. She fell in love with Stella and immediately sent me a text with the pups pictures and her bio and said "Momma she would be PERFECT for you and Daddy". So I talked it over with my hubby and we decided that I should go take a look at her since he was committed to plans and I was free and we didn't want someone else to take her before we had a chance to meet her. Needless to say I grab my Momma and headed in to Rockwall. The minute I rounded the corner inside Petsmart and I seen Keisha, it was LOVE at first sight! They took her out of the kennel and gave us her leash and we took her away from the chaos so we could spend some time with her and realized pretty quickly she was for us. I filled out the application for her and I have to say leaving her there was the hardest thing I had to do in a very long time. But I knew I would be seeing her in a week at her graduation from the PREP Dog Trainging Program. Yesterday she graduated and I am happy to say we are very proud parents of our precious new fur baby! Jim and Bettye are amazing people and explained every step of the process to us and knew every detail about Keisha. Any question we had, they had an answer for. And when they came out to our home they made Keisha's transition so easy on her. But I can tell you it is not just with Keisha that they are so compassionate. I watched them interact with all the dogs and they know the smallest details about all the dogs and love them all. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to add a new fur baby to their home or just looking for a charity to help out. This has been a wonderful experience for us and we are so thankful to our daughter for stopping to look at Keisha and for Jim and Bettye for allowing us to be her furever home. She will be loved always.

We adopted our new dog Bosley from Oak Hill Animal Rescue. From the first minute I met the representatives from this organization I could tell how much they care about the animals they are adopting out. They knew each animal personally and could tell us so much about their personalities. We looked at several dogs and then my daughter met Bosley and fell in love (and my husband and I fell right behind her). We filled out the application and they came to check out our house before we could adopt him. This really shows that they truly care that their babies are in a safe home where they will be happy. I also love the fact that they give their dogs obedience training while they are at their facility and they use troubled youth to do the obedience training, so it is a benefit to both the children and the dogs. They also make sure each animal has a chip so that if it is ever separated from its new owner it won't become a homeless pet again. I really loved this organization and Bosley has already made a huge impact in our home. We love him and he loves us. I am so happy we get to be his forever home.

OHAR is a wonderful organization and Jim and Bettye Baker are wonderful people. We went in to a PetSmart to buy something for our dog. OHAR happened to be there that day and my husband and I decided to just look. We were not really looking to get another dog at the time. Of course Tuffy (now Buster) apparently had other plans. He took one look at me and I was hooked. We ended up taking him home a couple weeks later. Bettye was great to work with in the adoption process. It is very obvious that she and Jim truly care for all the animals they have. Adopting Buster has been one of the best things we have ever done. He has brought so much joy to our lives and we have OHAR to thank for that. We believed in the organization so much, that we volunteered for them for a while untill we moved out of the area. When we are ready to adopt another pet, we may even go back to OHAR, even though we no longer live in the area. We highly recommed OHAR to anyone looking to adopt and dog or cat.

Oak Hill Animal Rescue is exceptional in the fact that they rescue hard to place animals, as well as disabled animals, when they are called upon to do so. They don’t turn away the outcasts. They go the extra mile to reach out to forgotten, sick, injured, neglected and abused animals to give them a second chance. They also are involved in educating people about pet care, the reasons for choosing adoption, and the adoption process in general. OHAR has another special mission of taking dogs that have experienced spinal injuries and are partially paralyzed to act as therapy dogs to Baylor Hospital to comfort patients who have also experienced paralytic injuries. This is truly exceptional work. OHAR is also active in helping youths become compassionate toward animals by developing responsibility toward and interaction with animals through volunteer activities and dog training. I love this group. They go the extra mile. They rock!

We adopted Dusty into our family in the Winter of 2011 after the passing of our beloved Carly, who was also a rescue from the SPCA. We met Dusty at Adoption Day at one of the retail pet supplies stores that Oak Hill Animal Rescue happened to be at. Dusty caught our attention pretty quickly because he was just the right amount of scruff, just the right amount of Terrier, and just the right amount of attitude. What we immediately recognized in this organization is their character - a sincere interest in adopting a pet into the best possible home and doing it with integrity. From providing the appropriate amount of care to animals in their care, providing basic training to the dogs before they go to their next home, to checking in on the adoptive parent(s) to see how the new companion is adjusting. And I would like to also mention the program they utilize for their training, an at risk youth program that helps foster responsibility and nurturing for the young men as well as basic training and bonding for the dogs. This was an incredible testimony to the integrity of Oak Hill Animal Rescue and the commitment of Bettye and Jim Baker. We found the right place to adopt our wonderful, happy, and spirited Dusty!

The housing is clean and spacious and each animal gets individual attention. They keep detailed records on the animals and the expenses involved in running the rescue.

We were the first to fill out the application so we were allowed the home visit and were able to adopt the puppy. There was an individual that offered a great deal of money if he would be able to adopt and take the puppy home that day, but the rescue was true to their word that the first application would be served first and then others. This organization does a great job with the dogs that they rescue. The dog we adopted, Brady, was brought in as a pretty wild animal with no socialization skills at all. The people at Oak Hill Animal Rescue took care of him medically, gave him lots of the affection that he needed so badly, and even put him through a training class. We picked Brady up after his last training class and he is sooo sweet! I would recommend this organization for any one who is wanting to rescue a dog. They are very thorough and do a home visit before placing their dogs, and they require a recommendation from both your vet and another person who knows how you treat your dogs.

Our group "Gardere Cares About Animals" took up a collection at our law office and not only raised enough funds to buy Arlo the wheelchair--but also to cover the cost of his heartworm treatment (as he was also found to be heartworm positive). Arlo still lives at Oak Hill and is thriving. Betty and Jim are true angels to the service of animals far and near!

I have been volunteering as a photographer for various animal rescue organizations and have witnessed from the abysmal to well-run groups. The animals at OHAR are clean, socialized, and very well cared for. Because they are in this condition, the photographs are easy to take, therefore (hopefully) boosting the adoption rate. No photographer can make a frightened, filthy dog look good.....only the organization can. OHAR deserves the highest rating possible because they have obviously put in the work to achieve it.

As a supporter of Oak Hill Animal Rescue I would like express my appreciation to Jim and Bettye Baker for providing an animal rescue of this caliber, supporting the surrounding areas of Sunnyvale, Seagoville, Mesquite, Rockwall, Garland, etc). The hard work and love bestowed on each of these animals is incredible. The average person wouldn’t hold up to one day of their schedule much less 365 days a year. The kennel is well cared for, nutrition and medical needs are always meet along with daily exercise to run off steam and experience the outdoors. These are all important factors in the life of each and every one of these dogs and cats. A weekly adoption program affords each animal the opportunity for a loving family environment that is strictly monitored. Recently Oak Hill Animal Rescue has partnered with Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation to bring disabled dogs to visit rehab patients providing that spark of hope individuals need during challenging times. I would be glad to recommend this rescue to anyone looking to adopt a well cared for pet.

We looked to adopt a pet for about a year before we found Oak Hill Animal Rescue. They were wonderful to work with and always put the animal's welfare first, as it should be. They are active in the community and take advantage of all programs that will benefit the animals and inform the public of the desperate need for pet adoptions. I would highly recommend Oak Hill Animal Rescue.

My husband and I were looking for a dog to adopt and came across Oak Hill Animal Rescue. This is where we met Jim and Bettye Baker. They are so caring for their animals. My husband and I ended up adopting a little female 6 month old black terrier/lab mix we named Cessna. A few weeks later we went back and adopted her brother whom we named Murphy. Bettye was so helpful through the process and really goes out of her way for her cats and dogs and for the parents looking to adopt. I will ever be so grateful because these two dogs are the best, they were well taken care of and so sweet. Thanks so much Oak Hill!

The Ohar's run the Oak Hill Animal Rescue Shelter, they are some of the most amazing people we have met. My husband and I walked into an adoption drive they were hosting with no intention of taking a pet home. I however, fell in love with a little grey puppy. We left and said if we came back later and he was still available it was meant to be. We are now the proud owners of a 3 year old, 70lb Doberman/Weimaraner mix named Wilson. Bettye was so amazing during the whole process and really made sure that we were going to be the best home for Wilson. We have kept in touch and take Wilson to visit the Ohar's every couple of months. What they are doing, the amount of time and effort they put in for these animals is truly wonderful.

We adopted our adorable Japanese Chin from Oak Hill Animal Rescue. Betty and her staff had provided excellent care for our Samurai while he was there. They were also wonderful to us in helping us adopt Samurai. And....... we still keep in touch. They are a great group of caring people that love all dogs.

After losing our dog to old age, we went a while without considering adopting a new pet. My husband floated the idea and I reluctently said I would consider it. A dear friend volunteers for Oak HIll so I contacted her and she told me about an adoption event at Petsmart. My husband went and came home asking me to at least go and meet Max. I did and after a few minutes in the meet and greet room, I knew we needed to be doggie parents again. Oak HIll throughly checked us out, which I appreciated, and we were approved! Max went to obedience school before coming home and we got to attend his graduation. He has been a fun, loving, and well- mannered boy. We have taken him on several road trips to our cabin in Colorado and he loves being with us. I strongly encourage anyone who is interested in adopting a pet,-the only way to go-to check out Oak HIll.

Found these folks on-line while searching for a specific type of dog. Met them at pet center for adoption weekend, highly impressed with care of their animals and commitment to no-kill. Could not take dog that day [work travel] so they kept her for three additional weeks until my schedule was clear, then brought her from Seagoville out to Wylie to my house. Nothing but kudos for the way they screen clients and place animals [at least in my case!]. "Lady" is a happy SchnauBrador now almost one year old who fits right into her niche with her two "little brothers." Jack

These people have a compassion for animals...large or small...sick or healthy. They house dogs and cats until a "suitable" new owner is found. Many times that process is a long one. They take those dogs labeled early on as "unadoptable" and send them to obedience school to socialize them as well as help the "trainers". You see the trainers are boys in a juvenile justice program. Win one win all. Not only do Jim and Bettye adopt dogs and cats into new homes they have 5 dogs that are wheelchair bound and participate in a hospital therapy program. they take the wheelchair dogs and visit rehab facilities to encourage patients to suceed or at least deal with their injuries just as the dogs have done. The Bakers are all around compassionate and caring canine and feline heros.

This organization is run by Bettye Baker and her husband Jim. I first met them last fall at the Petsmart store in Rockwall, TX while inquiring about volunteer opportunities for my 14-yr. old son. Having not yet met my son, Bettye explained that they preferred for their teen volunteers to be at least 16 but sometimes they allowed younger individuals to volunteer based on their level of maturity. Upon completing the volunteer forms and other paperwork, the impression I got was that they were very serious about the quality and maturity level of the teens that they permitted to work with their animals. This was my first clue that this organization was very committed to their animals. My son is with his dad every other weekend and can only volunteer on a limited basis, so when the all-day "adoption fair" event came up at Owens Farms (in Richardson, TX), I said I would help out since they would be in great need of volunteers. This was my first opportunity helping out this organization and I could tell that Bettye and Jim pour their hearts into trying to find good homes for their animals. One example of this is rather than giving an animal to the first person who's willing to pay the adoption fee, a prospective owner is required to first fill out an adoption application and Bettye conducts a "home visit" to make sure that the dog will be able to adapt well to their new home and co-exist with any existing pets in the household. This shows me that they care very much that their animals are placed in a good environment. The other thing that I noticed is that they have several "regular" volunteers who are present whenever I have helped out or dropped off my son to volunteer. These ladies know the history and personality of the animals waiting to be adopted and show lots of caring and committment to volunteer their time with such dedication. When I went to pick up my son from volunteering the other day, I stuck around and helped them break down the cages and walk the dogs to their bus for their trip home. Some of these dogs were SO excited and couldn't wait to get back on the bus because they knew they were going home. What this says to me is that they love their caregivers (Bettye & Jim), and that they like their living conditions. The people who volunteer for this organization truly care for the welfare of these animals. Although I am fairly new to this organization, I know that It takes a lot to provide basic care for these animals, from feeding, housing, getting them proper medical attention, laundry and transportation expenses from their location in Seagoville to their adoption location in Rockwall, just to name a few. These people are truly dedicated in their efforts to help these abandoned and abused animals have a better life and they need all the help (monetary and otherwise), that they can get. I hope that your organization can assist with their needs.

This story is written to express our fulfilling experience with Bettye Baker, Executive Director, Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Inc., www.ohar.org, Compassion in Action, A 501(c)3 Non Profit Corporations, Federal ID 26-0453703

I am Carletta Burrows and I lost my Corgi, PJ, his name is short for "Pure Joy," in early September of this year. I was so lonely and in tears continuously missing my constant companion. I calmed myself by searching the internet for a Corgi that needing a friend and a home. On September 19, I found Oak Hill Animal Rescue, Bettye Baker, and Bunny. Bunny looked almost just like my PJ and needed a home. After talking with Bettye on the phone to get all the details and "how to" steps, I began the process. I filled out the application for adopting Bunny and faxed it to Oak Hill Rescue. I spoke with Bettye Baker several times over the course of the next week to answer questions and make sure all was in order for the adoption to be complete. On September 25, 2012, Bunny was delivered by Bettye Baker and two of her assistants. What a grand day! Bunny immediately began to fill the hole in all of our hearts and continues to do so to this very day. She has the chemistry it takes to be a farm dog and enjoys every opportunity given to her to help out on the farm. She is a fantastic guard dog and will not allow anyone or anything to go unnoticed and unannounced. We have kept in touch with Oak Hill Rescue and their successes, especially with the handicapped dogs that are great motivational tools in working with patients undergoing physical rehabilitation or training. We also recommend Oak Hill Rescue to others who are looking for a pet. We recommend adoption because of what Bettye Baker said to me when we discussed purchasing a puppy vs. adopting a rescued animal; she said, "Then you would be part of the problem rather than the solution. We will be ever grateful to Oak Hill Animal Rescue for taking such good care of the animals they rescue and for helping me find the perfect match for our family. It was a pleasure to work with Bettye Baker and Oak Hill Rescue, Inc. It is a joy for me to be able to share this story with you. Carletta Burrows 6001 Kilgore TX 75662 (903) 643-0530

Oak Hill Rescue is a wonderful group who we adopted Luke from. We had a great experience adopting from Bettye and the group. They were well organized and thorough with the process. Luke is our pride and joy going on 3 yrs now. When Bettye brought himto us, he was well mannered and well cared for. You could tell there was a bond between them, like a mother leaving one of her own in someone elses care. I still contact Oak Hill and will use them again in the future when we think we are ready for another! p.s. I still mention Bettye's name to Luke and his ears purk up :)

Jim and Bettye are nothing short of amazing! They give, give...and then give even more. From their hearts and pockets, they make sacrifices that not many people can fathom...including me. I've learned a great deal about pets AND people from Jim and Bettye and hardly a week goes by that I don't continue to benefit from my experiences with OHAR. I don't know how you keep the names of 60+ dogs and 30+ cats with the right animal...but Bettye sure does. My guess is it's the love she has for the unloved, unwanted and forgotten. Being with the OHAR animals and staff on Saturdays at the adoption event brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. There's no escaping the aura of love, caring, and urgent need to educate people about pet ownership. Hats off to Jim, Bettye, Daniel, Rita, Maggie and all the other wonderful volunteers at OHAR!!

My friend, Maggie began volunteering with Oak Hill Animal Rescue several years ago. About 2 years ago, we lost one of our beloved dogs and decided to adopt another, Geno, through Oak Hill Animal Rescue. I was very impressed with the way they checked out us, our home and our other animals. For some reason, Geno was having a hard time finding a "forever" home, but he has fit very well within our pack of, now 3, dogs. He is sweet, loving and very trainable within the pack. All the animals at Oak Hill Animal Rescue are spayed/neutered and are up to date on their vaccinations. So when we adopt a pet, we don't have to worry about the routine vet visits for a year. I highly recommend Oak Hill Animal Rescue!

Absolutely the most lovely rescue organization I have had the pleasure with whom to work. They found a beautiful year old poodle, totally neglected and took care of all her medical needed and as she went into heat for her first time, they also had her fixed. In the meantime, my home was inspected to be sure that I would be a good 'mother'. I approve of their methods and would recommend them to anyone.

Oak Hill Animal Rescue Inc. came to my dog's "rescue" when she became very ill and lost the use of her hind legs. She could no longer walk, run or play. The remainder of her life was destined to be very dismal laying around the house all the time. Through Bettye's caring heart, we were soon put in touch with Eddie's Wheels, a manufacturer of wheel chairs for animals. Our sweet Honey had another chance to walk and run during her last days on Earth. When she passed away, we donated the wheelchair to Oak Hill Animal Rescue for the benefit of another dog. Not knowing of our loss, or the coming wheelchair donation, Oak Hill had just taken in another dog from a local shelter that had massive injuries and would be in need of a wheelchair. They named the dog Hunnie and we call it fate that we called within a few days to offer our Honey's wheelchair to them in the event that they could use it for another pet in need... Awesome!

I have known Bettye long before Oak Hill was in existence, 20 years plus. Bettye has always rescued animals taking in as many as she could. When she and Jim married, their rescue efforts expanded to what is now Oak Hill Animal Rescue. My husband and I volunteer for what ever is needed of us and all of our children have become volunteers as well (even our 9 year old whose job is to provide lots of love to the rescued cats while we load up the equipment necessary for Saturday adoption day!) When we wake him up every Saturday morning his first spoken words are "Do I get to go see the kitties?" My nieces, nephews, and friends of our kids actually contact us every week to let us know their schedules for Saturday so they can come and help - that speaks volumes. They do it for the same reason my husband and I do- the feeling we get inside from knowing we are doing something that really matters and makes a difference. Knowing that we are helping the efforts of Bettye and Jim to save lives of the dogs and cats that otherwise would not be here. One of the things I am most impressed with is Oak Hill does not 'sell' their rescues. Each person interested in adopting a precious soul has to fill out an application, be approved, have a home inspection to try to ensure the family is a good match, that they will be able to provide a safe and loving home, and IS followed up on personally by Bettye. Bettye also educates anyone with questions or showing an interest in an adoption and she has a saying that I like alot, "If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem."......and she and Jim believe in that. There are so many volunteers that help out and I so enjoy getting to see the volunteers on Saturday's, they are all great individuals and we all work together as a team! I am so proud to be a part of what Bettye and Jim have created and hope the 'family' grows bigger.

Oak Hill Animal Clinic is a great Animal Rescue organization that puts its animals before just about everything. They have worked hard over the past few years to gain more assets to make their operations more efficient, but this by no means takes away from the love that each of the regular workers has for animals. This is a great place to go volunteer and feel better about yourself and help some great animals out in the meantime.

In July of 2009 I found three stray dogs hanging around our business. That's when I found Oak Hill Animal Rescue. I had found one of the dogs a home but still needed to find a home for the other two. The Baker's were very receptive to my situation and that is when I became a volunteer. I really didn't know or even realize how many animals needed a home until I started volunteering. The Bakers' have put their heart and soul in this rescue. They have even taken in paralyzed dogs and trained them as therapy dogs and made them a part of their family and have been recognized by Baylor Animal Assist Program. The Bakers' have found forever homes for several dogs and cats. They work with their local animal shelters and take in the dogs or cats that are ready to be euthanized and give them forever homes. I can't even imagine the energy and time they put into this rescue not to mention they both have full time jobs so they can continue to do what their hearts desire and fund their rescue. Their passion to rescue has saved so many lives and give a stray/abandoned dog/cat a chance for happiness in a new home.

My husband and I adopted our fur-baby, Hans, from Oak Hill Animal Rescue a little over 5 years ago. He has been the absolute love of our life and is totally spoiled rotten. Bettye and Jim were wonderful in letting us look at the dogs they had and we had a fabulous time playing with all of them. Hans is a golden retriever/huskey mix. He has the most wonderful disposition and a fabulous color. About 15 months after we adopted Hans I began volunteering for Oak Hill Animal Rescue. It was a wonderful experience. I helped feed and water all the dogs and cats. Lots of petting and time for exercise were also things that i did. Eventually they were able to hire someone to feed and I turned my focus to adoption events and helping to foster a dog at a time. The first dog I fostered was actually one that I found wandering the streets myself...I named him Wheeler. When I found him I called Bettye and said "I found this really scruffy dog and I mean scruffy running across the street. He just hopped in my van." She immediately said, do you want to bring him down to the kennel? I said yes. After a very short time I decided I had to take care of him and help nurse him to health. He eventually got his hair back and was adopted.....you would have never known it was the same dog. I now spend almost every Saturday at the adoption venue, help get the dogs there and spend the day telling everyone what wonderful fur babies they really are! I could not think of a better place to volunteer. Jim and Bettye care so much for all these guys. I have recently become a 'foster failure' and adopted a little pug mix. He and Hans have bonded and play so well. It was a great thing for all. I cannot say enough good things about Oak Hill Animal Rescue and the great things that they do for dogs/cats. They have 3 dogs that are in wheel chairs and are therapy dogs at Baylor Rehabilitation Hospital. What better ways to help man and dog?!

I adopted a Welsh Corgi from Oak Hill Animal Rescue on January 1, 2012. Bettye at Oak Hill was a pleasure to work with through the adoption process. She was always quick to reply to any emails, and was able to bring the dog from the adoption agency to my home in Carrollton. Bettye stayed at my home for a few hours answering any questions we had. She was able to point out any "problem areas" (i.e. an open window) to be careful of. She was very concerned about the well being of the dog, making sure we would be able to properly care for her. We've had a great experience with the dog we adopted, and I know if I need to contact Bettye or anyone at Oak Hill with any needs or questions, they'd be more than eager to help. I would definitely recommend Oak Hill Animal Rescue to any friends or family looking to adopt a pet - they do a great job at walking you through the process and making sure you are bringing a pet into a loving home.

I started volunteering with Oak Hill Animal Rescue after I moved from Nebraska where I had been home. They are doing a great cause-finding forever homes for great pets. They go out of their way to obedience train them, and do home visits. They also play a big part in society with their wheelchair pups going to hospitals and childrens homes to put a few smiles on some faces. I look forward to working with them in the future and finding great homes for the animals who we have to stick up for.

I first learned of Oak Hill Animal Rescue Inc when I saw a news article about three paralyzed dogs they had helped get fitted for, and receive "carts"(doggie wheelchairs) so they could lead happy, productive lives. A short time later I saw another article about OHAR, and their work at Baylor Hospital with their own two therapy dogs. I knew of a paralyzed pitbull dog at Fort Worth Animal Care and Control with two very young pups that per protocal would be immediately EU'd (euthanized) as the mandatory stray hold was up. I emailed Ohar, and Mrs. Baker immediately replied. Even though her rescue was full at the time, she asked a friend if they would foster the dog for her (and they agreed to keep the dog until there was an opening for it as unlike most rescues, all of OHAR's animals are on site. Sadly, it took about a month before the shelter released the dog to the OHAR's foster/rep Daniel Barry, and both of the puppies were sick by then and did not survive. I was very impressed by OHAR's tenacity to stick with it and fight to save this dog from certain death. They named her Hunny-Bunny, and right after OHAR got her a couple who had lost their dog came by to donate their cart to help another dog out. With a few minor adjustments it fit Hunny-Bunny perfectly. Daniel even modified it where she has to use her back legs, and Hunny is beginning to walk now; she can't run or she will fall over, but she's walking. Daniel Barry fell in love with little Hunny-Bunny, and has adopted her for himself. Thanks to the awesome dedication, and perserverance of OHAR a real life Cinderella has been spotted running all over White Rock Dog Park in her little tricked out wheelie. **** By the way, those kind people who donated their dog's wheelie cart to give Hunny-Bunny her new life?
