Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: To promote activities which conserve and sustain our natural, human, cultural and economic resources.
Programs: Conservation: facilitated adoption of conservation practices by farmers to minimize soil loss from the land, and reduce unwanted sediments and nutrients in streams and waterways. Continued work with the soil and water conservation districts and other partners to develop and implement conservation plans on farms, nurseries, and ranches island-wide. Supported adoption of computerized planning tools to increase planning efficiency.
communication: sharing programmatic information with the general public through workshops and community events and via electronic / social media platforms.
community capacity building: increased capacity of hawaii's communities to protect their natural resources by engaging community leaders and members to improve site-based resource management, enabling residents to properly manage natural resources by restoring native species, increasing compliance with conservation regulations and engaging in efforts to recycle and divert waste streams from the landfill.
