Mission: Working to transform the lives of young students, ndhs provides a catholic, affordable, culturally sensitive, college preparatory education enhanced by professional work experience for young men and women from families with limited income. Ndhs' target population includes 300 teens aged 14-18 from lawrence (88%) and surrounding communities. Ndhs students represent a wide diversity of ethnic backgrounds and cultures including southeast asian, haitian, lebanese, west african and african-american, however, the majority (91%) of our student body is comprised of latino youth. Currently 67% of ndhs students are female and 33% are male. Approximately 95% of ndhs students are eligible for free and/or reduced lunches.
Programs: High school - ndhs is part of the christo rey network, a national network of high schools that provide quality, catholic, college preparatory education to low-income, young people who live in urban communities with limited educational options. All ndhs students take a full course load of college preparatory coursework for four years, as they participate one day each week in our corporate work study program (cwsp). Through cwsp, every student works in a professional setting, developing the knowledge and skills to prepare them for college and the world of work.
corporate work study program (cwsp) - through our cwsp, inner-city teens are engaged in career awareness, exploration, and preparation experiences. Our employment partners provide services that range from banking, legal services, health care, and education to housing opportunities. As a result of working in these environments, where student employees are often mentored by their employer/co-worker, students acquire overall job experience, marketable skills, have exposure to a variety of career opportunities, and begin to build a professional resume.
