Programs: Scholarships and other academic awards are one of the primary objectives of the foundation. In the 2014/2015 academic year, 453 students were awarded scholarships. Scholarships bestow on students a valuable sense of recognition and accomplishment as well as important financial support. Our scholarship donors include private individuals, corporations and foundations, all of whom are committed to making an education affordable for ncc students. The foundation's scholarship process is competitive and academic achievement is the primary consideration. However financial need, special circumstances and personal qualities are also considered in awarding scholarships. Scholarship applications are reviewed by the scholarship committee which is comprised of board directors, community members, the executive director and the manager of scholarship and donor relations.
the foundation supports norwalk community college to further the development of the student body by providing funding for several programs. The foundation continued its support from previous years to fund four faculty positions and approved the funding of an additional faculty position in 2014 for the center for science health and wellness. In accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, the liability for funding the five faculty positions for 3 years was established and the expense was accrued, but operationally the faculty positions are funded each year for 3 years. The faculty positions include a biology professor, a simulation laboratory specialist, an exercise science instructor, and an assistant professor and a clinical coordinator in veterinary science. The foundation continues to support the family economic security program (fesp) which provides academic and financial coaching along with financial support to single parent students. The foundation also funded various college advancement initiatives.
