I became involved with Norhtwind because I saw first hand it's efforts to display quality art by regional artists. Port Townsend has a lot of galleries but no real art museum and Northwind is the only Art Center. I appreciate that their non-profit status allows them to display interesting and creative works without requiring they be commercially viable. That's why I donate to them. I want to see more artwork that pushes the edges and Northwind often delivers and is working hard to do better, reach further, with each show they put on.
I lived in Port Townsend for about 5 years and one of my favorite things was Northwind Arts Center where I occasionally volunteered. Now I live in Tualatin, OR. (south of Portland) and am serving on the Tualatin Arts Advisory Committee for the City of Tualatin, We are interested in starting an art gallery and, though I lived in Portland for 35 years, I've never seen an art center I like as well as Northwind, so I am suggesting it as a model and vision of the future for our committee. I recently visited PT and was amazed at the exciting and varied arts programs supported by Northwind. The place looked wonderful and I loved the new Artist's Showcase Gallery! A lot of hard work and love have been put into the Center by folks who care. I hope we can do as well here in Tualatin.
I joined Northwind because it is an organization with vision and standards. I was new to creating visual art, and I have learned volumes about art and artists just by being in the convivial Northwind environment. Northwind offers artists and art lovers, of all ages, quality experiences that are rare outside of big cities.

My husband and I are both active in the Jefferson Arts Alliance. As volunteer coordinator, I have tried to find people who have an appreciation of art to act as docents. My husband is the director of the Arts to Elders Program as well as assisting me as a docent when needed. We both feel that the Northwind Art Center is an ideal venue for viewing art and provides an ambience that is conducive for learning.
As new Port Townsend residents, we are surprised and pleased at the quality of artwork on display at Northwind -- and we have seen great artwork all over the world! With its Arts to Elders program and literary readings, Northwind provides a great service to the community.
Northwind is a wonderful service to our community. Not only do they have a gallery where I volunteer as a docent they also sponsor poetry readings and have monthly entertainment at a local independent/assisted living facility .I am proud to support Northwind financially.

Even those of us who aren't artists can appreciate what Northwind Arts Center/Northwind Arts Alliance does to serve the artist community and the community at large--I value this organization so much that I've joined its Board to help spread the word! Take, for example, its Arts to Elders program, or its activities that reach out to young people. Each year it participates in the local public library's Community Read. Northwind has a high-quality and popular poetry series. Northwind has fabulous galleries, but it's so much more than a gallery! I'm proud to support Northwind so that it can continue its excellent work.

As an artist and art lover, I am grateful for the high quality of art exhibited at the Northwind Arts Center galleries. I appreciate the opportunity and the variety provided by several juried shows open to regional artists each year. I enjoy the Art Talks which often feature the exhibit juror, or the artists featured in invitational shows. The Arts Center also provides rental space suitable for small art workshops in a great setting: surrounded by artwork by selected local artists.
The Center also hosts a wonderful Reading Series featuring local and guest writers of prose and poetry.
NAA events are free to the public, with donations always needed and welcome!
