This organization fulfills a deep humanitarian need many people overlook or do not realize. It allows mothers in many states of the NW to easily utilize and maximize their breast-feeding capabilities to help babies in need, whether they be in hospitals or at homes. It helps mothers who cannot breastfeed to have backup resources for feeding their child whichever calorie-based milk diet they require. The employees are friendly and helpful, the prices are affordable, and as a non-profit organization, it is pursuing a mission of helping families without any other incentive than bringing good to the world.
As the HR Coach at Northwest Mothers Milk Bank, I've had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible culture and commitment to employee well-being that make this organization truly special. NWMMB is more than just a place to work; it's a community that values its members and supports their growth.
One of the most impressive aspects of NWMMB is its unwavering dedication to creating a positive and inclusive work environment. The organization fosters a sense of camaraderie and collaboration, where everyone feels valued and respected. This is evident in the numerous employee engagement initiatives, such as team-building activities, outreach events, and opportunities for professional development.
I'm proud to be part of an organization that is making a real difference in the lives of families and communities. Northwest Mothers Milk Bank is a truly exceptional employer, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a fulfilling and rewarding career.
NW Mother’s Milk Bank offers such incredible care and support to the most vulnerable in our community and beyond. It’s obvious that the team and volunteers at this organization are passionate about their work and have strong desires to not only help, but also to educate. It’s been exciting to see their facility and outreach expand over the last several years.
The NWMMB staff is so friendly and they always greet you with a smile. Additionally, they strive to provide the best and safest product to mothers and babies in need.
Outstanding organization that is making the world a better place!
As a labor and delivery nurse I have seen the benefit of Pasteurized Human Donor Milk (PHDM). when we were having it shipped in from a milk bank in Colorado. This was made possible because our Lactation staff, Joanne Ransom and Leslie Mondeaux knew the benefit this would provide our most vulnerable population, newborns. I was privileged to know Joanne and Leslie and observe their dedication and long hours of hard work to make the vision of having a local milk bank come true. I am so proud to support NWMMB and to continue to see it grow and thrive while providing the most important nutrient to at risk neonates.
From the moment you connect with Northwest Mothers Milk Bank you are surrounded by people-first, passionate professionals who are focused on providing you with the best quality care. As a volunteer, I am inspired by the founders and ever-changed by the tenacious of our donors.
As a former NICU nurse for 39 years, I know the immense value of pasteurized donor milk. This organization does an amazing job providing this safe, valuable milk to all hospitals in Oregon and most hospitals in the Pacific NW and beyond as well as for outpatient families needing to supplement for a short time. I have been truly impressed not only with their desire to provide for our most vulnerable population in the NICU, but also their desire to be a beacon in the community in support of breastfeeding and the use of donor milk if and when mother's milk is not sufficient. They strive for equitable use of donor milk regardless of financial status and provide for families in need using their Evie's fund. They also rose to action during the recent formula shortage by providing emergency donor milk for those families unable to find formula for their babies. I am truly inspired by their Expressions of Care program, providing support for incarcerated women who have recently given birth, whose children are cared for by family or foster care. NWMMB not only provides these women with breast pumps, collection bags and covers the cost of transporting the milk to the baby's caregivers, but also provides a hotline for the women if they have questions. This program allows this women to provide for their babies in a world that makes this task almost impossible. I applaud NWMMB for the work they are doing both by providing hospitals and families with safe pasteurized donor milk while also supporting breastfeeding for families and the community.
Previous Stories
As an NICU nurse for 38 years and lactation consultant, I have known the value of human donor milk for the vulnerable babies in the NICU, as their mothers work to establish their own milk supply. I can say I will never again have to give formula as the beginning food to a 25 week premature infant because of milk banks like NWMMB that have set the standard for use of pasteurized human donor milk in NICUs. I began volunteering here 7 years ago and was amazed at the positive work environment and wonderful human beings working in this organization. I am now a member of the Board of Directors and am grateful for the opportunity to serve here.
I’m constantly impressed by this organization’s dedication to its mission to not only provide donor milk to those in need but also to support breastfeeding. They hold themselves to a high standard, even having all donor screeners be IBCLCs, and are constantly innovating new partnerships and programs to grow their impact and reach for improved infant diets of human milk.
This organization provides the necessary support for parents who are looking to offer a safe alternative to feed their babies. They are easy to work with and even offer a support group for breast/chest feeding parents.
I have been volunteering at the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank for more than 2 years. I have been very impressed with their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of HMBANA. As a retired/ RN Lactation Consultant I have been privileged to work closely with the LC screening staff as we contact potential donors. We are informed of the latest updates from HMBANA and institute changes quickly. The staff is passionate about providing human milk for all vulnerable babies and demonstrate it daily through their well-organized process from the initial screening to the final distribution.
I worked formerly as an LC in a hospital setting, and saw for myself the benefit these babies received from the availability of donor breast milk, as well as the gratitude of their parents. As I transitioned into a volunteer screening roll at the milk bank, I found a group of dedicated people whose primary concern, like mine, was providing the highest quality milk for these babies.
The staff are warm and welcoming, and very supportive of the volunteer staff. It is a pleasure to work with them and to continue to help provide human milk to babies in need.
What an incredible asset the NWMMB is to our community and beyond!! The staff are kind and helpful and they provide safe, lifesaving human milk to babies in need!
The staff at NWMMB always goes above and beyond to serve infants and families in our communities. I am proud to be a part of this amazing organization!
Northwest Mothers Milk Bank (NWMMB) makes employees feel valued, respected, and supported. One of the things that makes our employee culture so special is our focus on collaboration and teamwork. We are encouraged to share ideas and work together to solve problems. I wouldn't want to work anywhere else!
NWMMB is an incredible organization! I am a staff member here and it is refreshing to be a part of an org that goes above and beyond to make a positive impact. The team is mission-driven and passionate. It's important to me to work in an environment where I'm treated like a human being. NWMMB's culture of caring goes beyond the mission and reaches its staff as well, making this a rare workplace. I wholeheartedly recommend getting involved or supporting this work in any way you can.
We had a rough start with our breastfeeding journey. I had a planned out of hospital birth that ended with needing to transfer and ultimately a c-section. Baby girl came at 37 weeks and in general I was processing A LOT. We spent 4 days in the hospital and during that time our baby girl was given donor milk. Having donors milk was a form of relief I’ll never be able to fully describe. We found out later that baby girl had a tongue tie and that my supply had basically plummeted. Fortunately, our pediatrician was able to fill a prescription for more donors milk while I worked with a lactation specialist to figure out a feeding plan. I am so eternally grateful to all the donors who give so selflessly and to the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank.
So sweet through every interaction, taking great consideration for those who might be suffering. Passionate and knowledgeable. Ensures all volunteers and staff members exude compassion.
Such an amazing milk bank. They made the process of donating a breeze and their staff is so kind and helpful.
I donated in spring of 2022 after my son had to use donor milk the first few days of his life. The process for registering to donate was seamless and everyone I talked to was helpful and kind! Once I had built up enough of a stash I delivered the milk to a nearby drop off site and they sent it off for me. The process was seamless and it felt so good to give back!
NWMMB helped me recognize what was possible when I had extra supply. Very grateful for them and their mission, and even now living in Illinois, I am always a supporter of them.
I can't say enough good things about Northwest Mothers Milk Bank staff, process and mission. They not only provide the most precious gift to new babies but they also provide a wonderful experience for donors and recipients.
The process to become a donor is easy and staff supports you every step of the way. There are multiple ways to get your donation to the milk bank. There are regular check ins and staff is available whenever you have questions.
I will continue to support them in all ways possible even when I can no longer provide milk donations.
I love the NWMMB. Everyone is so helpful and kind. I have donated milk and have also volunteered with this organization and it has always been a pleasurable experience.
Our sweet baby girl was three days old when we were admitted back in to the hospital for a high respiratory rate, which can be indicative of an infection, and a heart murmur. Being a first time mom, breastfeeding was still being established and I was so nervous about making sure she was getting enough breast milk in order to help fight whatever infection was going on. NWMMB and their donor breast milk gave me peace of mind during the most stressful time of my life. I will be forever grateful. Our girl is now two months old and almost 12lbs!

So glad we could be of service!
One of my breastfeeding goals was to be able to pump enough milk to donate a surplus. I was so thankful when I found North West Mothers Milk Bank! Donating my milk here ensures that it goes to babies who truly need it.
Since breastfeeding my first baby, I dreamed of being able to donate if I ever breastfed again, because I finally found a confidence in my own body. I don't have a huge oversupply, but with the combination of pumping while at work and hand expressing, I have been able to collect extra milk to pass along to the Northwest Mother's Milk Bank. They were thorough in their screening questions and labs so I feel confident knowing they value my "liquid gold" with as much awe and respect as I do. As a dietitian and lactation consultant, I've also seen first-hand how donated milk from one family can encourage and support another family.
I was fortunate to be able to donate excess breastmilk after the birth of my daughter last year. The staff at Northwest Mothers Milk Bank were all so friendly and helpful, answering all of my questions and helping me figure out a plan for me to donate the milk. I’m proud to be a part of the community they have created!
So thankful to find the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank! I went back to work and started pumping milk for my baby and to relieve my full breasts but my little one was not interested in drinking the milk. It felt like such a waste of milk and time but it was so easy to donate with the NWMMB!!! I’m So happy to help other moms with my extra milk!
I have been so blessed to have produced extra milk with two of my three babies. I was recommended NWMMB when my first was born and the process was easy, everyone was so encouraging, and I was left feeling comfortable and confident in the whole process. When my third was born and my freezer started to fill up with extra milk, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. Thank you to all the wonderful donors who help out with this organization!
The work being done at the NWMMB and the people behind it are incredible! I always feel so good after a visit to see them. They are professional, compassionate, and so supportive --making sure human milk is available to all infants. I especially appreciate all the work they have done in their Expressions of Care program to assist mothers in custody to be able to express and transport milk to their infants while they are separated. Through this program they have also made themselves available as a resource to caregivers that may have questions or need extra support as well. Amazing work and dedication--that's the NWMMB!!!
Northwest Mothers Milk Bank is an incredible place to work and volunteer. Their staff is professional, kind, and they love what they do. The energy at NWMMB is positive and enthusiastic. They are doing everything they can to help babies in their community thrive. Thank you for providing a vital resource to families in the pacific northwest!
I have only positive things to say about NWMMB. I am a NICU dietitian at a hospital in WA state and I have also been a donor twice. Part of my role in the NICU is to place orders for donor milk in order to provide for our most fragile babies. When I returned to work after maternity leave in 2020, I liked to think I was seeing my own milk delivered from NWMMB. I can say from experience the people at this non-profit, both on the purchasing side and the donations side, are a pleasure to work with and it is obvious they are all invested in the health of the babies they serve. I am so grateful for the service provided by NWMMB!
For nearly two years I have been lucky to work alongside some of the most caring coworkers and volunteers at Northwest Mothers Milk Bank. And as a donor screener and lactation consultant at the organization, I can tell you firsthand: the level of care we put into reviewing the health histories and medication use of prospective milk donors—to ensure they are healthy enough to donate milk—is both thorough and heartfelt. Every day I am awed by the generosity of parents, surrogates, and bereaved families who freely give of their time to complete the donor approval process and give their milk. They do it all for the sake of helping NICU and other fragile babies whose health outcomes may depend on that milk. Their kindness reminds me there is good in the world.
I was both a donor and a volunteer at Northwest Mothers Milk Bank in 2020, and I can't say enough about this organization's lifesaving work. I gave birth to my first son in October 2019, and when the pandemic started in 2020 I was looking for a way to give back. I had a large supply of milk in my freezer and decided to become a milk donor. As a new mom, I felt strongly that I wanted to do something to help vulnerable babies. I has also been laid off from my job, so I then joined the milk bank as a volunteer for a few months. I helped log incoming batches of donated milk, and even learned how to process the milk in the processing room. NWMMB is extremely supportive of their donors and volunteers and I always felt my work was appreciated and acknowledged. NWMMB is a great nonprofit doing amazing work!
I became aware of the NWMMB when my patients were given donor milk in the hospital - having this option available to those babies who have the toughest start to life is SO critical to their well-being. I then became a donor and during that process was so impressed by how professional and warm the people at NWMMB were. I was lucky enough to join their board, and I can't say enough about how much every single person at this organization cares about the Pac NW parents and babies. It radiates with everything they do. This is truly how a nonprofit should work, and others should model themselves on it!
I can't say enough about this wonderful organization. I have been volunteering at the Northwest Mothers Milk Bank for over five years and I'm continually impressed with its support of employees and volunteers. Everyone is valued and treated with respect and kindness. I have the opportunity to interact with our milk donors and it's quite an honor to speak with these generous women. They are taking time to share a precious resource with other women and it's always inspiring.
I found my way to Northwest Mothers Milk Bank after my son was born premature and spent time in the NICU at a local area hospital. During his first few days of life, a crucial time for his development, he relied on donor milk provided by NWMMB. I could not be more thankful for the work that they do!
I was fortunate enough to become a milk donor when my son was 2 months old, and my experience interacting with the non-profit on that side of things has been nothing short of amazing. I feel valued for my time and effort each time I drop off a donation; enough so that I have continued pumping excess in hopes of donating as long as possible! The staff are so caring, truly take an interest in your story, and support your journey. The time I've spent with the NWMMB staff and interacting via email has been fantastic. I am proud to support such a terrific non-profit!
Volunteering with NWMMB is the highlight of my week! I always feel valued, respected, and acknowledged. NWMMB has created a welcoming environment for the community and volunteers. NWMMB did a wonderful job creating opportunities for volunteers to contribute during the pandemic and has taken precautions to ensure the safety of everyone at the milk bank. I love NWMMB and love supporting the health of my community in this way!
