Mission: NWIRP promotes justice for low-income immigrants by pursuing their legal status. We focus on providing direct legal services, supported by education and public policy work.
Geographic areas served: Washington State
Programs: Asylum: We protect human rights by representing individuals who face persecution in their home countries. Child Services: Through the Immigrant Child Advocacy Project (ICAP) we help vulnerable children obtain protection under our immigration laws. Protection from Violence: We assist immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and other crimes in gaining lawful status in the United States. Family Unity: We promote family unity and stability by assisting with family visa applications, and by representing family members in deportation proceedings. Citizenship: We assist immigrants and refugees, many of whom are elderly and /or persons with disabilities, obtain United States citizenship. Legal Orientation: We provide legal orientation sessions to individuals detained at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. Deportation/Removal Defense: We provide representation in immigration court to those who face deportation/removal. Advocacy and Education: We provide critical immigration-related advice and information to immigrants, other community members, and a large network of service providers and attorneys, and we advocate for policies that will empower the immigrant community. Impact Litigation: We represent immigrants and refugees in the federal courts to impact immigration laws and policies on a national level.
