Causes: Education, Secondary & High Schools
Mission: The Mission of Northside Charter High School (NCHS) is to provide a 9-12 educational program that results in mastery of the New York State Learning Standards, high school graduation, and acceptance to colleges and universities of choice by all students.
Results: NCHS achieved a graduation rate of 95% in 2014 compared to the annual overall average graduation rate of 68% in District 14.
Target demographics: 400 students are enrolled in the 2015-2016 school year. Over 80% of our current student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Our student body consists of predominantly Hispanic (65%) and African American (25%) students. Over one third (35%) of our students speak a primary language other than English in their home.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Each school year we serve 400 students in grades 9 - 12.
Geographic areas served: Northside Charter High School (NCHS) is located in Brooklyn, NY and serves the students of New York City Department of Education District 14.
Programs: NCHS is a comprehensive 9-12 school chartered by the New York State Department of Education. We opened in the fall of 2009 and had our first graduating class in June 2013. We are housed in a NYC DOE building with two other public schools. NCHS is a college preparatory school with rigorous academics, discipline code, and behavioral expectations.
