There are many non-profits that claim to do what is posted on their website or what is advertised in the newspaper or on radio ads. NCA is an excellent example of an organization that lives up to it's proposed offer and then some. The excellent community service can be seen and felt by those in receipt of it, as well as, those who watch from the community. The staff who run the day to day operations should be commended for tireless hours of work towards interacting with, providing services and being an oasis for the North Side community. Most working people would bulk at what these people get paid as salary for the amount of effort put forth each day, much less special events that cause them to work extra hours. In addition, one program in particular that should be highlighted that NCA provides is their In-Home Crisis Program. This program provides a way to address families that have risk of one child or more being removed from home. It is a great thing to see an organization address the need for families to have a way to remain together and or bring family member back to the fold after having been removed. And NCA not only does this as a family saving effort but they actually do it in a way that families have a fighting chance to remain together in peace, health and harmony due to the various services offered that go along with this particular program. I am so pleased and happy to know they exist. I will do all I can to ensure they continue to exist.
The strength of an organization is measured by its people. One always hears about the constituents it serves such as the countless amount of clothing drives, the crisis prevention help, the tireless hours that are put into benefit activities, etc but these activities sometimes do not portray the success of the organization. It is true that NCA is a very well respected organization that dedicates itself to meeting the needs of the community at large. They have been successful for a significant amount of years and are considered a pillar in the community. They have raised funds, donated time and efforts and been a guiding light to those in need. However, their true measure has been in the tireless efforts of the people that work there. They don't do their job to be recognized - they do it because they care. One doesn't know of the hard work that is put in to make sure that a family has the most basic necessities of life - clothing, food, shelter - and that each member maintains his/her dignity while receiving these necessities. One doesn't know the amount of hours that are put into making sure that people are safe but this can be seen when looking into the eyes of the employees that work there. One doesn't know the hard decisions that have to be made to ensure that the mission stays on course - the layoffs of staff so that the program can stay the course. One doesn't see the toll that it takes on someone's health or well-being when you can't help someone who is in desperate need of a helping hand - the sleepness nights, the constant knocking on doors to receive needed funding or the people that put together student/adult programs so that they can help themselves - EVERYONE CARES!! The people at NCA are dedicated to helping people and they do this without expected recognition and an unselfishness that has never been seen before.
