I got involved with Northland Shepherd’s Center 20+ years ago as a volunteer on the Advisory Board. I was working g at the time and felt I could easily meet the expectations of meeting for an hour every 4 months. My interest and involvement grew as I got to appreciate all the great things the organization did for seniors to help them live independently and engage socially. I got involved on celebration and fundraising committees and eventually chaired the Advisor Board. Once I retired 10 years ago, I decided to volunteer with Learning and Laughter twice a month and started a pen pal program for the older adults in L&L who were interested and elementary students at St. Patrick’’s School. NSC has so many wonderful programs and services. It has been a privilege to be a part of the volunteers who support it.
I have both used the benefits of northland and Shepherd center when I couldn’t drive. And now I get back by driving others and a very rewarding experience. Some of these folks can never drive again and I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be able to get a ride when no one else can help Shepherd center is there.
I truly appreciate the assistance, guidance, and support from NSC staff during the season of caring for my husband who had LB dementia. Also participated in the support group which was very helpful because of sharing experiences with other caregivers. NSC also recommended an elder care attorney which I found very helpful. Thanks so much for all your help!

Northland Shepherds Center is an excellent organization. As a volunteer for many, many years I found they were very responsive to their client needs. The administration has always been great to work with. Their various programs keep clients in touch with others, help them socialize, make sure they receive transportation, shopping, home visitors, daily phone calls, and other important and helpful items as individually needed.
I've found NSC's various presentation on issues important to seniors very useful.
In addition I have found their volunteer ride service a 'life-saver' on several occasions.
Some of my close neighbors have praised NSC's activity programs for seniors, enjoying their 'day-away' from their homes.

I became acquainted with this non-profit through my job coordinating a giving program for a nearby hospital. With a small staff and a small army of volunteers, I was so impressed with all the good works that they were able to accomplish helping seniors thrive and remain in their homes. I knew once I retired, I wanted to give back. Northland Shepherd's Center was my first choice! They continue to amaze me!
