Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection

Mission: Helping people develop and care for vermont's resources to strengthen our communities.

Programs: The council has promoted wise use and development of natural resources to improve the local economy and standard of living. The better backroads program gives out small grants to both survey and correct road related erosion problems to improve water quality in vermont. In 2010 the better backroads program completed 59 better backroads grants with 47 towns and organizations. The dry hydrant program gives small grants to municipalities and fire departments in vermont to install dry (unpressurized) fire hydrant in ponds and streams in order to protect natural resources and human life and property. In fiscal year 2009, 42 dry hydrants were installed.
