I was a teacher here at this school, and they decided to fire me because I fought back against them wanting to give me a verbal warning for “ending class,” when someone soiled themselves in the classroom and they students were told to leave. The rule is, subs don’t get prep time, so if students aren’t there, then I can’t do much. Also, it was a biohazard. I got scolded and punished for not keeping them in the room and not asking to end class, when the class wasn’t cancelled… they felt. I mean… wouldn’t you?
They also threatened to not pay for tutoring hours if they weren’t logged in a binder. Another illegal practice.
Not only that, they fired another girl for discrimination against her mental illness. ANOTHER illegal practice.
Even more, they tried to make certain employees work without their legal mandated breaks. ANOTHER illegal practice.
It’s a great place for students, but a TERRIBLE place to work. Your work ethic isn’t valued, or your morals. Your position relies on Linda and Adrienne’s power trips. If you comply, you can stay. If you speak out or need help, and they lose that control over you, and you will be fired. It’s amazing when you don’t get on their bad sides, but they fire people due to retaliation (ILLEGAL) all the time.
Don’t apply for this job if you want a safe space to grow
Northern Nevada Literary Council has given given me something that is extremely important; knowledge. I am immensely grateful for the class room instructors. It turns out that I really like math! I'm not sure what I'll do after I finish the HiSet exams but I am excited.
They do so much for our community and they are our priority. Great group of supportive people as well.
The Northern Nevada Literacy Council has been one of the best supportive and partnership resources we have had the privilege of being engaged with. The Family Literacy Reading nights provided by the Family Literacy Coordinator and sponsored by Northern Nevada Literacy Council for our Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada Head start program have been outstanding. Our Head Start parents/guardians and Head Start children for the past two years looked forward to the reading nights and the hands on activities provided during the Family Reading nights. It reinforced the importance of early literacy to both parents and children. Our Head Start Center staff, parents and children are looking forward to this years Family reading nights being provided by the Coordinator on zoom, it will be a new experience. We are very thankful for the impact the Northern Nevada Literacy Council has provided in early literacy for our Head Start children and families including our Head Start staff and program.
NNLC’s innovative Family Reading Program creates early literacy and executive function skill building opportunities for families. Our agency is the state coordinator for Mind in the Making/Vroom and collaborates with the FRP by providing materials, training and support to partner organizations like the FRP, librarians, preschools, and other programs across Nevada.
The Family Reading Program is a wonderful example of using Mind in the Making/Vroom layered in a literacy program and we are thrilled to be part of it!
