I am disabled, and the Chairman of a local Commission on Disability. I have called this place twice looking for assistance, left a voice message w/ phone #. They DO NOT return my calls. they make sure they send me e-mails on a regular basis looking for donations with no problem.

The numbers tell the story. NILP went from a financially sound agency with savings, annuities and salaries for top managers that were in line with other Independent Living Centers. Today, the Board of Directors and management have put the agency in jeopardy by draining all savings and annuities and putting into place bloated salaries for top managers. Management also took out a $350,000 note against the value of the building. The note will most likely increase substantially in 2017 when it matures. They've also scaled back on direct service staff to a bare minimum and grow increasingly dependent on funding from the Department of Medical Assistance which jeopardizes their ability to meet a core service requirement of serving people with all disabilities. It's no wonder why the organization was only able to fund raise under $50,000 from the private sector.

I am very sorry to read the review of this IL center, which used to be one of the most forward thinking in Massachusetts. I hope that the state Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission which funds Independent Living Centers in Massachusetts in part will restore the reputation of this IL with diligent and public oversight.

Since the agency has come under new leadership, the board of directors and the CEO have plundered the agency's finances, fired or laid off 14 direct care staff and has yet to see a qualified independent financial audit. The quality of services has drastically declined. I depend on the services as a person with a disability and I strongly advise that no private funding be given to this agency which will only serve to perpetuate the extremely poor quality of services. The board of directors should resign and the CEO should be fired.
