Mission: Northeast coalition of neighborhoods increases neighborhood livability through highly inclusive civic engagement and grassroots community building. Necn believes in creating healthy communities by engaging citizens to become direclty involved in how their neighborhood evolves. Our primary areas of focus are civic engagement, issue advocacy, volunteer leadership development and community project support.
Programs: Community based projects - manage fiscal sponsorships for community-centric projects and organizations; manage small grant program annually offering grants to 6 organizations through a competitive application process.
community committees / issue advocacy - supporting grassroots involvement in public policy related to transportation, safety, education and economic development issues. Collaborating with neighborhood associations and other community groups to amplify citizen voices.
neighborhood program/training and technical assistance - provide training and technical assistance to 11 neighborhood associations (nas) within inner north/northeast portland; contribute to developing community leaders and support civic volunteers involved with the nas, in additional to other residents as needed; provide information and referral, leadership development and outreach assistance for community needs for the livability of neighborhoods.
