Mission: Helping people with disabilities become full participants in the community; choosing for themselves how to live, learn, work, socialize and play. Nearc's demographic area and the service scope have expanded significantly over the past six decades. Now nearc serves individuals with developmental, intellectual and physical disabilities, in 190 communities in eastern massachusetts. The northeast arc is divided into three programmatic divisions: family support, residential, and day services. Within each division are unique programs that provide a broad scope of services, supports, advocacy, information and referrals that are responsive to the needs of consumers.
Programs: Family support services - the northeast arc provides a variety of services designed to assist and support families. These services consist of advocacy, technical assistance, education, early intervention, behavioral health services, recreation, and support groups. The autism support center provides information, referrals, support groups and training to parents and professionals interested in autism spectrum disorders. The following programs are included in family support:building blocks - provides an intensive program of evaluation, in-home therapies and parent training for young children (3-6 years) diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. The program employs one-to-one intervention techniques to enhance development in the areas that are most challenging for children with the asd diagnosis: social interaction, communication and play. Early intervention - two early intervention programs operated by the northeast arc provide services to more than 1,000 children annually. The programs provide family-focused, home and community based therapeutic services to children aged birth to three years, who are at risk of atypical development. Trainings are also provided to parents and professionals in the community on a variety of topics. First steps child care - northeast arc operates an inclusive accredited child care program for 55 children ranging in age from 2 months through 5 years old. Family resources - provides information and/or referrals to facilitate access to community resources or arrange for respite care. The goal is to help families identify what is needed to maintain the integrity of their family, to decrease or alleviate stress and to participate fully in their communities.
residential services - the northeast arc has been providing residential services for over 40 years. Services are provided to over 120 people in 43 homes, located in 20 communities on the north shore and in burlington, ma and in shared living placements. Services provided are supervised living, supported living, specialty services and supports, deaf services, intensive medical services, training and consultation, active retirement, nursing case management and specialized health care plans. The unifying theme across residential services is supporting residents in being engaged members of their communities.
community-based day services - provide skill-building activities to help prepare people for jobs. Volunteer opportunities, community resources and activities are used to aid in the development of social and employment skills. Employment training & job placement - these services include assessment, training, career planning, job coaching, paid employment at local businesses and in the arc's social enterprises including breaking grounds caf , shine jewelry, heritage caning, and heritage shredding and competitive employment placement and support. Transportation services - transportation is provided to more than 175 individuals from their homes to various day program sites located in surrounding communities. Transportation is also provided for individuals to and from their competitive jobs in the community. Day habilitation services - the northeast arc runs three day habilitation programs. These programs provide services to individuals seeking goal oriented socially based day services with a strong medical management component. Participants are provided access to a variety of medical resources such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, behavioral support as well as medical case management.
personal care assistance fiscal intermediary - provides payroll and billing services to more than 7,000 individuals receiving pca services primarily through masshealth for hands-on assistance with their self-care tasks and activities of daily living. Included in the program expenses and revenue is $170,648,549 related to the actual payroll of the pcas and the billing to masshealth and other senior care options.
