Mission: North Star Foundation (NSF) is dedicated to helping those whose lives were affected by the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Today, joblessness is rampant in many regions of the country, particularly in the rural Northern Territories which have been among the hardest hit by the Soviet Union?s demise. In fact, the majority of the CIS's population now lives in poverty. Isolated from the cities and stripped of the meager subsistence provided by the Soviet government, the CIS's poor face starvation, disease, and a harsh, unforgiving climate. Accordingly, NSF focuses its relief efforts on Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgizstan and other CIS republics.
