Reorganized in 1995, this organization has accomplished much with limited resources--Civil War Living History Day, a Family & Community History Day, change of theme exhibits every 9 months, special events and speaker programs. The museum opened in 2004 and has received awards on three of the theme exhibits--Agriculture in Southern Erie County, NY, Modern Military, and War of 1812 and Civil War in Southern Erie County. Community history is emphasized but in context with county or state or national events.
In 2011, the society completed restoration of the 1851 Hicksite Quaker Meeting House in North Collins and has opened it to use by the community as well as special programs related to the Meeting House History. Susan B. Anthony spoke at this meeting house in September 1857 debating Andrew Davis (Father of Modern Spiritualism) on The Nature of Women. Learn how the congregation of this meeting house morphed from Orthodox Quaker to Hicksite Quaker to Friends of Human Progress to Spiritualism.
