Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: The mission of the nc silc is to promote a philosophy of independent living, including a philosophy of consumer control, peer support, self help, self determination, equal access, and individual and systems advocacy, in order to mamize opportunities for individuals with disabilities and the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of society.
Programs: Comprised the governor's appointed council (the silc) established under sec. 704 of the rehabilitation act of 1973, as amended, and conducted 4 required quarterly meetings, which promote independent living, consumer control, peer support and systems advocacy for people with disabilities in north carolina; monitored, reviewed, and evaluated the implementation of the state plan for independent living (spil). Provided information and instruction on independent living to the general public.
