Mission: Wellness and health promotion/education for older adults
Programs: State finals:nearly 3,000 individuals competed in 63 activities at the state finals in 2017. This 17-day event in the fall was conducted in various cities and showcased the best senior talent in the state of north carolina. Pickleball was the most popular sport. While the silverarts showcased performing, heritage, visual and literary arts. The team sports of softball and basketball each encompassed 3 full days in extremely spirited tournaments. The bocce, cornhole and golf tournaments continued to grow as well. Over 1,000 volunteers supported state finals through devotion of their time, talents and energy.
local games program:north carolina has the largest network of local senior games in the nation. In 2017, 53 games served all 100 counties and over 60,000 participants in a year-round program of sports, arts, workshops, clinics, and wellness events. Many of the participants competed to qualify for the annual state finals held each fall. Educational programs for statewide staff are offered, as are newsletters, publications, a statewide walking program (silverstriders), a statewide dance program (silverliners), and an excellent website. Over 20 statewide organizations and agencies endorse and help coordinate this large award-winning program.
