Causes: Government & Public Administration
Mission: The north carolina open government coalition unites organizations interested in ensuring and enhancing the public's access to government activity, records and meetings. The nonpartisan coalition will educate people about their rights and support their efforts to gain access and advocate the principles and benefits of open government.
Programs: Public education: the coalition used its annual sunshine day symposium-style event to raise awareness across the state about open government laws, updates and changes. Significant press coverage helped carry the message to a wider audience. 70 people attended the annual conference at elon university. The open government hotline answered 125 questions from the public, journalists and government officials about north carolina sunshine laws.
