Mission: Educational activities to promote environmental justice.
Programs: The north carolina environmental justice network (ncejn) is a coalition of community organizations and their supporters who work with low wealth communities and people of color to promote health and environmental equity, clean industry, safe work places, and fair access to all human and natural resources. We seek to accomplish these goals through organizing, advocacy, research, and education based on principles of economic and political equity. Ncejn has successfully held 19 statewide ej summits and 7 youth summits affording hundreds of people from disadvantaged and impacted communities across the state an opportunity to directly address elected officials and public representativeson the impacts of policies for industrial development versus healthy and safe communities. Ncejn has also worked with communities on campaigns that have prevented further detriment to communities of color; such as clean-up of hazardous waste sites, landfill siting, hog lagoon clean-up, filing title vi administrative challenges, and providing comments on state regulatory procedures.
