I want to extend my and Willows thank you for your attention.
Unforeseen occurrences but follow us all Willow is a very important part of my life and my choice to adopt her was to give her a good home, to provide love security and a home and to keep her healthy. Willow is an amazing dog she has allergies and trying to be attentive to those trying to figure out what is the cause has been a real challenge
I want to thank nmdog for providing such attentive and courtesy and thoughtfulness in regards to her care. At a time in our lives it seems like no matter where we turn there's always an obstacle or the word no and I appreciate the word yes.
Due to Willows needs being met her condition has improved 100 fold she is happy she is no longer itching she is now turning back into the original Willow and I am very pleased to have that and had not Angela and nmdog giving us the attention that we needed we may not have come this far. I want to thank you guys so very much for helping us for helping us overcome the obstacle and helping us to continue and Willows complete recovery and blossoming future.
My sincere thanks and gratitude Marie Catherine Thomas and Willow Princess Mystique.
NM DOG is a beacon of light in a world that can often feel dark and overwhelming. When my sweet Charlie was in need of surgery and I found myself unable to afford the cost, NM DOG swooped in like a guardian angel, ready to help in any way they could. Angela, the heart and soul behind NM DOG, radiates love and compassion in everything she does.
Her unwavering dedication to helping animals in need is nothing short of awe-inspiring. She showered Charlie and me with kindness and support, making sure that he received the care he deserved. Thanks to NM DOG and Angela's loving touch, Charlie will now back to his happy, playful self, and my heart is overflowing with gratitude.
NM DOG is not just a non-profit organization; it is a sanctuary of love and hope for those facing difficult times with their furry companions. Angela's warmth and generosity have touched my soul in ways I cannot fully express. Thank you, NM DOG, for being the guiding light in our darkest hour. You are true earthbound angels, and we are forever grateful for your presence in our lives.
I had the pleasure of meeting Angela when we rescued a dog and her 2 pups one night many many years ago. I didn't think mama dog would make it thru the night but she did and Angela arranged for her to come to her and she named her Honor and she lived her last years with Angela. Many years later I was on a mission to rescue a dog abdonded on the side of HWY 60 before coyote pup season hit and I only had about a week and i was desperate and once again she came to mind. I called her and said maybe you remember me but I rescued Honor and she said remember you how could I forget you, brought me Honor. She lent me a trap and advice and we caught him the next night at 1 am... she vetted him and nuetered him and gave advice, food and treats. Where we live is where dogs are just dropped off and we have a secret beacon only they can see above our house that leads them straight to our door. She's always helped us with them. She helped with the next lil booger, Daisy Mae who showed at my house one summer day last year. She was older and had lumps and one was cancer, she helped with her and she is now cancer free!
She has always been someone we've admired and looked up too. One day I called about a dog situation and she has walked by my side as I've gone thru the steps (and still continue to) to hopefully better the community we live in for our furry friends. She's picked me up when I felt defeated and she's talked me down when It's needed. I would absolutely do anything for her.
This year we have been volunteering on her fence building team and we travel around New Mexico and help build areas for chained dogs to get them off the chain and to have a better life. It's probably the most amazing thing to be apart of. We have fostered in rescue before and volunteered for the past 20 years, but to be able to volunteer for NMDOg and Angela is the best gift ever. She is a truly one amazing human and her heart is pure gold. We are blessed to be apart of the team and to be mentired by the best hooman there is in this field. ❤️ "For the LoVe of DoG" we are forever grateful for NMDOG and Angela.
Hi, my name is Gary and I have the pleasure of meeting Angela and her crew. They were very helpful with my dogs. I had five dogs and two grandkids and it was just getting out of control to females and they were having puppies constantly so starting to be a nightmare, but, I donated one of the females puppies to Leidy and she introduced me to Angela and Angela had her crew out here the following week and they put me up some cages and they dog food and all kinds of goodies for gold. They were just fantastic. They have so far spaded one of my female dogs , which has changed her life dramatically so I’m hoping that once the rest of the dogs are spayed and neutered, they’ll change their lives too and I’m sure it will. Thank you.
We rescued a pup living in a horrible situation the poor little guy was being neglected. When I brought him home he had pee filled paws and knew absolutely nothing. He didn't know his name or any simple commands. He had no idea what a dog toy was or what to do with a bone. He truly just wanted love and attention. He was like a 8 week old puppy that learned bad habits lol. I rescued him 1st and would figure out the rest later. I just knew he deserved a chance and deserved to be loved. When I begin calling around to get this little guy vetted. I found out how truly expensive everything was going to be I felt like I was at a loss. I had reached out to a dog lover in a fb group I'm apart of and she had put me in contact with Angela Stella aka NMDog inc the lady with the biggest heart. I'm truly thankful to her and NMDog. I have been at a loss of words from all the love and support they give to not only me but other dog lovers as well. I don't know what I would have done without the kindness and help I received from NMDogs. From the bottom of our hearts Thank you for all you do for our community. You are such a wonderful person. You have created a amazing nonprofit. I also want to thank all the volunteers and to all of those that have donated to this amazing nonprofit community, Thank you .
Wow! Just wow! When I think I have lost all faith in humans, along comes NMDOG to restore it.
My husband was out working when he saw two dogs on chains, not well sheltered, and in bad shape. He made a few calls, I made a few calls and sent some emails, and within days, NMDOG was on site, immediately and profoundly making these dogs lives better!
The two dogs are now safe, secure, warm and fed and sheltered, and OFF THOSE DAMN CHAINS.
Thank you NMDOG for taking care of New Mexico’s neglected dogs, through education, resource-sharing, and generousity. You have made the best difference in the lives of these two sweet animals.
NM Dog is one of my favorite non profits. I love what they do for chained dogs. This organization inspires me daily and had a lot to do when I formed Unchain OK in Tulsa Oklahoma.
I love Angela and her heart for these less fortunate dogs subjected to living on chains
NM Dogs rocks!!!
Angela has been an absolute lifesaver for us and our rescued puppies. Her kindness and support have been crucial in providing the care and resources needed to keep our girls healthy and happy. From dog houses, to training, to spays, Angela's assistance has made a world of difference. We can't thank her and NMDOG enough for going above and beyond to ensure our puppies are well taken care of. Angela truly embodies the spirit of compassion and generosity towards animals in need.
I am the former director of Friends of Mountainair Animal Shelter. When FOMAS reignited in 2018, Angela reached out to us on a number of occasions to ask questions about our work and when asked, offered suggestions. After getting to know more about NMDOG, I began to model what we did at FOMAS on the exceptional standards at NMDOG. We raised enough money to provide complete and high-quality veterinary care for each of our dogs who needed it. When dogs were previously adopted out without being sterilized, we ensured dogs were sterilized either before leaving or we were in close contact with adopters to ensure it was done. We began microchipping every dog using the "guardian" program from Datalink, so that FOMAS would be a lifetime contact for our dogs. We screened adopters more carefully to ensure the match was the best possible. We also followed up on every adoption, offering support and training tips where necessary. If a situation did not work out, adopters committed to bringing the dog back to us and not taking them to another shelter. We implemented an ongoing straw program in our area for the first time.
There are other examples, too numerous to mention. NMDOG provided a model of excellence, ensuring that the dogs were healthy, happy, PROTECTED, and a great match for each home. Now, FOMAS also has an excellent reputation, and people come from all over the state as well as the southwest to adopt our dogs. Thank you, Angela!

We are extremely grateful to NMDOG for partnering with us to provide straw to needy residents/companion animals in Dona Ana County. To date this year, NMDOG has provided 30 bales of straw, and our community has been picking it up regularly to help keep their animals safe in our colder climate. In our area, it used to be rare to have freezing temps, but now it is commonplace for there to be weeks in the low 20s. That's super cold for us in southern NM. Thanks to Angela and all at NMDOG for supporting us!
Michel Meunier, ED, ACTion Programs for Animals
After months of reaching out to animal control to report tethered dogs being left out in the cold, I contacted NMDOG for help. They sent a volunteer out within days to offer help to the owners of these dogs. I am so grateful for their help in bettering the lives of these dogs!
We in Santa Rosa NM are very grateful for Angela and NMDOG. We are a small community with lots of animals but very little resources. NMDOG has partnered with animal control to distribute straw for the outdoor dogs and we are very thankful for their help and kindness.

NMDOG has been an amazing ally to our little community in Santa Rosa, NM. Angela has helped us so much from letting the animal control department partner with them for the free straw program, helping us find food donations for our pet food pantry, and just overall giving us advice on other ways they can help our community and our animals. We couldn't do it without their help and appreciate them so much!
On this day, Jan 1 2012, we adopted our 1st NMDog rescue. Her name was "Tawni". Tawni was a wonderful companion for 10 years with loving assistance from Angela/NMDog!
Just a year after Tawni crossed Rainbow Bridge, I found my best friend again. Walter White was adopted from NMDog. Walter has brought joy to my life once again thanks to Angela & NMDog's continuous love & support in every way.
NMDog is a fantastic organization!
We have had the honor and privilege of getting to know a real life angel-aka: Angela Stell and a slice of heaven here on earth-aka: NMDOG.
NMDOG came into being years ago when, as Angela tells the story, she was rescued by a big black lab known as Jojo. Truth is, they rescued each other, and then followed love/a dream/a mission/ a burning desire-rescuing countless other abused, neglected and chained dogs -changing fortunes, improving canine and human lives -and truly making the world a better place
Angela has selflessly and courageously dedicated her life, resources and heart to NMDOG. While Jojo has transitioned, other remarkable people ( human and furry) have joined in, helping build NMDOG into what it has become and continues becoming- a force for good-for hope-for love-for dogs.
On a personal note, this is a photo of Lola. She is a 17 year old rescue who is still enjoying life-thanks in huge part to Angela, and Dr. Hamel-one of the board members of NMDOG, and Albuquerques finest veterinarian.
Angela arranged for Lola to see Dr. Hamil, as she was starting to have challenges with mobility. This was the first and only visit to a vet that Lola actually seemed to enjoy! Angela ( who is definitely Lola’s favorite person) met us there. Dr. Hamil and her assistant were amazing -making Lola feel comfortable and safe. After the exam, she got a prescription for her arthritis and she is back to moving about the house and yard like she was 10!
Thank you NMDOG! We love you!
My journey with NMDOG began in 2012 when I was a Lieutenant with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department in Albuquerque, NM. I had a deep desire to change the mindset of the community regarding the mistreatment of the numerous chained and abused dogs I would encounter on a daily basis during emergency calls for service. I was a constant first-hand witness to the link between the abuse of animals, specifically dogs, and the prevalence of domestic violence and child abuse. I began taking action and enforcing the criminal state statute regarding animal abuse; however, there was a void in resources for the rescue and rehabilitation, both physical and mental abuses the dogs had endured. I wanted to start an Animal Cruelty Task Force in order to garner actual resources that would help serve the 4-legged members of the community I served. One day, I found a sickly stray named Moo-Moo, and like magic, NMDOG and Angela Stell entered my world. After this first in-person meeting with Angela, we both found we had the same determination and mission to do whatever we could to change the lives of chained and abused dogs in our community.
In 2012, BCSO, NMDOG, and Bernalillo County Animal Care formed the nation's first-ever trifecta animal cruelty task force. Together, we were a mighty and motivated task force and were truly "boots on the ground" as we walked block by block in areas of the county where the most animal calls for service were occurring. We called these "sweeps" and made every effort to have sweep days as often as we all could.
Upon my retirement in 2019, the task force had saved countless lives of dogs and humans alike. Numerous atrocious crimes against humans and animals were discovered and prosecuted to the full extent. The attitudes of not only the community but also law enforcement and the judicial system in New Mexico changed from thinking of dogs as "property" to recognizing that dogs are sentient beings and victims of abuse just as humans are. NMDOG constantly took on the enormous task of taking in all of these dogs, getting them the best vet care possible, and fully rehabilitating the mental trauma and behavioral health issues that were present. I look back on my 20-year career in law enforcement, and no other mission brings me more pride and satisfaction than the task force did. Angela and I taught animal cruelty awareness courses to law enforcement all over the state and were able to present our task force model at numerous conferences in New Mexico and in the Midwest portion of the country. There is even a book written about our task force (Goodbye Bad Guys by author Kate J Kuligowski).
My involvement and commitment to NMDOG reaches beyond my time in law enforcement. I have grown to find a deep friendship in Angela and have been honored to be a mom to three rescue dogs from NMDOG. I have forever had a love for pit bulls and seem to have a deep soul connection with the often misunderstood breed. Angela has entrusted me with the adoption of Mouse, JJ, and Twix from NMDOG. All three of these babes were sweet souls that were not as adoptable as others due to the trauma they had endured by horrible humans prior to their rescue.
Mouse passed away from cancer in 2018 after being my constant buddy and love for a few years. Mouse got the chance to be loved and give love in a peaceful and calm space. I miss him every day. In 2018, I was honored to welcome JJ into my home and heart. JJ and I have both healed our hearts together, and we have a deep connection that extends beyond words. In 2020, I was honored to bring Twix into my home. Twix was having a hard time finding a forever home due to separation anxiety. She is the sweetest little lady who makes my heart smile with her willingness to cuddle and play at any time. I am so lucky to be able to provide her with the confidence and love she needs to thrive. Angela has never allowed two pit bulls to live together for safety concerns. However, Angela knows my priority is the safety and comfort of the dogs she has trusted me with and that I "follow the rules of a two-pit bull home." JJ and Twix (I named her Ripley Jean) are with me every day; we all provide each other with healing, trust, and unconditional love.
After retirement from law enforcement, I became a licensed mental health counselor and have a private practice specializing in trauma and law enforcement officers. JJ and Twix join me in sessions every day and provide insurmountable amounts of healing for my clients by being silly, happy, loving, and always accepting hour-long scratches and cuddles while clients heal their trauma. It is truly the most beautiful and magical bond to witness. JJ and Twix have found their purpose in healing humans. I always marvel at their willingness to provide comfort and love during very hard times for clients as they process trauma; it is a sixth sense they have of knowing exactly what the client needs. I make sure to thank them every day and provide them with walks, dance parties, treats, and love so they do not take on the energy of the trauma they help to heal during their "work day."
I am eternally grateful to NMDOG for all that I have been involved in and the love and meaning that this rescue has brought to my life. I am proud to be the current vice president, Treasurer, and Law Enforcement liaison on the NMDOG board. NMDOG has changed not only the lives of so many dogs but mine as well.
Upon returning to New Mexico after decades, I looked around and realized there was something terribly, terribly wrong with the animal situation. With no animal background other than love, I started volunteering becoming more and more involved at many levels. As I kept my eyes and ears open and looked out for those who seemed to be doing it right, I came across NMDOG. That was over fifteen years ago and I have been NMDOG ride or die ever since!
I know of no other rescue that truly meets the individual needs of every dog in their care and makes every decision with the best interest of the dog in mind. That is hard to do in the current animal welfare climate but NMDOG does it every single time.
The reach of NMDOG is statewide as they advocate for anti-tethering legislation, supply straw for outdoor dogs winter weather support, or donate food to struggling shelters. The reputation NMDOG has built is a result of years of doing responsible, professional, compassionate rescuing across New Mexico.
I've had the privilege of volunteering with NMDOG for the past eight years, and I can honestly say this organization is a beacon of hope for dogs in need. What truly stands out about NMDOG is their unwavering dedication to the well-being of every dog they have rescued. The NMDOG team has worked tirelessly to ensure that each dog is matched with the perfect family, prioritizing the dog's needs and ensuring the best possible outcome for everyone involved. Their commitment doesn't end when a dog is adopted—they remain a resource and a support system for the families and dogs long after the adoption is complete. It's evident that the dogs always come first here, no matter the circumstance.
One of the most remarkable aspects of NMDOG is their Home Sanctuary program. This program is a testament to their commitment to the dogs who require a little extra care—whether due to medical or behavioral needs. These special dogs are placed in loving, forever homes, and NMDOG continues to provide for them, covering all expenses for the rest of their lives. From food and toys to grooming and medical care, NMDOG ensures these dogs have everything they need to thrive.
I've seen firsthand the compassion and dedication that drive NMDOG. For this rescue, it's always about the dogs first and foremost, and that's what makes them truly exceptional.
As a veterinarian, NMDOG is my favorite animal non-profit to work with because their medical compliance and their provision of diligent medical care to the animals is a top priority. They are indeed fiercely determined to do whatever is indicated to improve or maintain the quality of life of the dogs that they serve.
Recently, at 61 years of age, I spent 138 days in a homeless shelter. I have two furry loves. Meli is a nine-year-old cattledog named Meli, and Alegria is a year-and-a-half-year-old collie. I could take one of them to the shelter, but one I had to foster. Throughout that long period of time, and after, Angela at NMDOG supported me in keeping my dogs and my job. She paid for kenneling for Meli while I was at work, and her excellent, tried, and true fosterer Keely kept Alegria and nursed her through spay surgery. Then Alegria joined Meli at the kennel. Angela made sure they received updated vaccinations, medical care, and fostering/kenneling those four months and beyond (they had caught that virulent strain of kennel cough). When we moved into our apartment, she brought food, beds, flea and heartworm medication, leashes, collars, and harnesses, and treats. When I later became ill, she offered grooming, more food, and more flea and heartworm medication.
NMDOG is 110% committed to providing aid during the hard times people and pets experience. I wouldn't have survived this excruciating period had I had to give up my girls. Angela has broad shoulders and amazing energy and dedication. I do not have the words to express my gratitude to her and NMDOG. It is a very results-driven organization and very deserving. Angela is an excellent leader and worthy of every praise I can think of.
Thank you, Angela, Keely, and supporters! You have my eternal gratitude!
My dog Barnabas was in need of shots, neutering and a check up. He was abandoned and I took him in, but I was unable to pay for medical or food items for him. NMDog stepped in and were so helpful and reassuring that Barnabas would be taken care of and boy was he. They took him into surgery at 4 Paws shortly after talking to the amazing Angela. He was given shots, got neutered and had his nails trimmed. They took really good care of him and sent him home. NMDog gave him food, meds, toys and a new collar and chipped him. I am so happy and now I am not worried about my dog socializing or taking training classes. Thank you so much NMDog for helping my dog, Barnabas. I highly recommend this organization. Donate if you can.
About 4 years ago (April 20th) NMDOG changed my life for the better!! After losing my father, then my dog of 10 years to her second bout of canine cancer, then ultimately being uprooted from my home of 4 years, I thought I was done...with everything!
I moved, went to therapy, and started to heal, but knew there was a huge missing piece. Almost 19 months later, this sassy little husky came bounding into my heart and into my life, courtesy of NMDog, and Angela. Angela just knew we were right for each other, especially after all of her thorough screening!
I can't begin to tell you how this little girl, and the "Village" at NMDOG, have saved my life!
They say I rescued EllieBelle, nope.....she and her hoomans rescued me!
We adopted Monet “Mo” in 2019, it was the best decision ever! Angela made sure he would be a perfect match for our home (as we already had an older pitty female). She was always a phone call for text away if we needed anything and still is! We are so thankful for NMDOG!
My wife and I adopted a tri-pawd Pit Bull girl from NMDOG. Her name is Shyne. Such a sweet cuddly girl. She works so hard to please us!
NMDOG united us with the perfect dog, Star. We were looking for the right companion for a very playful and forward dog that we already had. We had tried several meet and greets, but nothing had worked. NMDOG brought Star, and thought that it would work. It has worked very well! Angela is good at reading dog interactions and helping dogs to get along. The really wonderful and unique thing about NMDOG is how they work to get the right match, they have a mandatory trial period, and they will always take back one of their dogs if the new home can’t keep it. An NMDOG will always have a safe home!
Previous Stories
We got our second Siberian husky, Star, from NMDOG. We were trying to get a Siberian that would get along with our overly friendly and playful Siberian Sasha. We had been through several meet and greets, but hadn’t found a match. After hearing our story, Angela thought that Star would be a good match. She brought Star up to us, things went pretty well, and she left Star with us for a 30 day trial. Well - Star found a good furever home with us! What really impresses me about Angela is how hard she works to make a good match. She won’t finalize an adoption until the potential new owners have had the dog for a month. She checks out the homes in person, even driving out of state to check homes and deliver dogs! And her dogs are always part of the NMDOG family; she will do all she can to help her adopters and will take back her dogs if things aren’t working out. Angela has rescued dogs from horrific situations and rehabilitated them both physically and emotionally.
I've seen the good that NMDOG does for the animals in my community for years. They are a top-notch group consisting of the most caring and compassionate individuals I've ever seen. I first heard about NMDOG years ago when they were fighting to save a dog who had been held at a local animal control facility for many months and was slated to be euthanized. After so much time at this facility the poor dog had developed some behavioral issues and was deemed not acceptable for adoption. NMDOG knew better and fought to get him released to their care. It was such a happy day when we saw the video post of that sweet boy being released to the care of NMDOG personnel. That was just the beginning though. Many months were spent exercising and socializing this boy. Videos were posted so that all of us who had worried and cared for this fella could see all the wonderful strides he was making. There is a happy ending here...he was adopted and is living his best life with his humans and four-legged siblings. I am amazed at the time, effort and money involved in the efforts NMDOG exerts in helping these animals. The people at NMDOG are my heroes. I have always considered myself to be an animal lover, but these people put me to shame. They are out there fighting for the neglected, the forgotten, the abused every day. This is why, when I adopted a stray from a county shelter near me that I contacted the group when I could not get the badly emaciated little guy to eat. He was 60% of his expected weight and nothing I tried worked. The situation was made worse when I was told by the vet's office that we've been going to for 32 years that they could not fit us in for 2 weeks. After numerous calls to animal clinics around town I gave up in tears. My husband suggested messaging NMDOG to see if they had any suggestions. Well. Let me tell you, that was the best move I could have made. The group put me in touch with a very caring vet and within 24 hours tests were run, a blockage was ruled out and medicine was dispensed. I will always remember and be so grateful for this help. If you think about it, there was no reason really for them to do this for me. I didn't even adopt this dog from them. I do know they helped because they love dogs. All dogs. Especially those in need, as mine was. They good news is, thanks to NMDOG and the wonderful vet they put me in touch with my new guy is slowing, methodically gaining weight. He is eating well. He plays and enjoys life. Mom is happy.
Thank you NMDOG for all you do and on a personal level I thank you for taking the time to help a complete stranger. Once again, you are the heroes.
We are so grateful to NMDOG for bringing our sweet Rascal into our lives! Their love and devotion to the pups is evident in everything they do. Our little guy received the best care as soon as he came into the rescue….from veterinary care, grooming, behavior training to being placed with an amazing foster. The adoption screening process was very thorough, which we appreciated as it really showed a commitment to finding the absolute best home for our cutie pie. NMDOG provided everything we needed for a smooth transition to our home and they have continued to follow up to make sure that Rascal is settling in well. We didn’t just gain a cherished pet…we feel like we became part of the NMDOG family. They are an amazing organization and deserve to be supported in continuing the work they do.
My family went through a very traumatic time over the last two days. When nobody else would help us and we thought that there was no hope for a solution to an aggressive dog that has been abandoned by our neighbors when they moved, and losing our beloved cat to this dog, they stepped in. NMDOG gave us immediate and humane solutions and have helped my family be able to heal from this horrible Holiday Season. If it weren't for them, I really don't know what we would have done. The people at this amazing rescue are extremely empathetic, knowledgeable, humane, caring, and compassionate. My family is beyond grateful for NMDOG and will forever be advocates for them. We want to thank them for stepping in and helping us when countless other organizations blew us off or told us there's nothing that could be done in the situation.
I met Angela many years ago at the beginning of my rescue career. She and I worked together for many years that followed to assist the abandoned pets of NM. This non profit organization is one of the most relentlessly dedicated groups I have ever come across and I’m grateful to the people who have supported it. Bless you all!
There are not enough words here to describe the impact NMDOG makes for our dogs and families of New Mexico ! I first came across NMDOG on Facebook for a request to foster beloved Billie Howliday who through no fault of her own had to be returned from her new home after being rescued as a chained dog.
She was my foster and then turned into my beloved adopted family member. She lived 5 years with us into her 16th year! Angela is never farther away than a phone call and helped us find the best care for Billie "Lilli" throughout her life.
We have a very small (4lb) female, Wittles, who got pregnant from a slightly larger dog. The pregnancy was life-threatening to Wittles, as she could not have given birth to the puppies. NMDOG covered the cost of the surgery that saved her life. Wittles is still recovering and seems to be getting better every day. I'm a single mom, struggling with employment at the moment. My daughter and I are beyond grateful that NMDOG saved Wittles life.
Whether it’s direct involvement getting a dog out of a bad situation or pressing for humane legislation, NMDOG gets it done. Nothing but respect.
I have fostered several senior hospice dogs for NMDOG Inc and they are the best. If at anytime the foster dog needs anything Angela makes it happen. She always does complete evaluations before placing the rescued dog into a home to make sure it's a good fit for not just the dog but the foster person. There is on group I'd rather foster for.
We adopted our girl Tink from NMDOG in June 2011. Our experience with NMDOG and Angela has been nothing but great. Tink is still going at about 14 years old now, just a little slower nowadays. Adopt and you too may just find the love of your life too❤️
I have had the pleasure of both fostering a dog for NMDOG and adopting a dog from them. I have also fostered for other groups and I have to say NMDOG is the most organized and professional. Further; Angela Stell, the President, is nothing short of a warrior princess when it comes to dogs. She takes dogs into rescue, convinces owner to take their dogs off chains, provides support for owners struggling to care for their dogs. I have seen her check in on a dog regularly for more than a year before convincing the owner to surrender the dog to her. On top of all that she advocates for animal rights at all levels of government. Not only does she do it all but she dose it all extremely well.
I have had the distinct honor of being a volunteer and foster for NMDOG for almost 12 years now and it has been the most rewarding experience of my lifetime. Whether it's a chained dog, dogs in need because of a fire evacuation, a hoarding situation, or community outreach NMDOG is on the frontlines and there to help. With this organization the dogs ALWAYS come first no matter what. A real top notch organization!
Angela is the smartest and most capable person have ever met in animal rescue. I have been a volunteer and adopter of NMDOGs for over a decade and watched the amazing work this small all-volunteer rescue accomplishes for New Mexico's chained an forgotten dogs. It is so deserving of its amazing and supportive "village," and I am pround to be a part!
Once a NMDOG, always a NMDOG - the enduring devotion of NMDOG to the dogs they've saved is praise-worthy.
We have adopted two formerly-chained NMDOGs and am comforted to know that Angela and NMDOG will always be there to support us and them. Our dogs were given a chance at a free, happy and healthy life only because of the hard work and dedication of NMDOG. We're beyond grateful.
I know few souls that could do the work that NMDOG does - the dirty, heart-breaking work that accompanies saving animals from abuse, isolation and neglect. Few have a true heart for animals, but that is a trait that is personified in NMDOG. We strive daily to give our dogs the kind of life they deserve and are lucky to have such role models.
The many interactions I have had with Angela have always been positive and amazing.
NMDOG has helped so many animals live a better life without pain and suffering and I absolutely love what they do.
I continually recommend them to anyone I know who's in need of help with their own pets or pets they have found in deplorable conditions.
Thank you so very much, I appreciate you!!!

Grit is the word that comes to mind when I think of Angela Stell and her rescue, NMDOG. As a foster family for those dogs who have been rescued from horrific, cruel circumstances, we have seen them receive the very best of care and blossom under Angela's guidance. Her passion and love for these dogs and their people is boundless. It is indeed a privilege to be part of the NMDOG Village!
We need more people like Angela in our world. I accompanied her on one of her rescue missions where she UNCHAINED 11 dogs from the most horrific situation I've ever seen. Angela is a hands-on, feet on the ground, dog rescue hero. She coordinated with local law enforcement and then professionally negotiated with the home owners to remove all the dogs that day. I don't know how she does it without losing her cool but she will do whatever it takes to save a dog from a miserable life at the end of a chain. And she doesn't stop there. She gets them all the healthcare and love they need by putting together an amazing VILLAGE of people near and far who volunteer in small ways and large, visible and behind the scenes, to provide what every dog needs, and ultimately get them into their forever homes. And she doesn't stop there. Angela also works hard towards getting anti-tethering laws in place in NM to protect dogs from a miserable life at the end of a chain. She fights hard, in the trenches, day in and day out, for the dogs.
NMDOG is a village I'm proud to be a part of.
As a volunteer for NMDOG, I was called on to see if I could give an elderly dog in poor shape a soft place to land. I jumped at the opportunity and Ben came to stay with us. We knew in 2 days that we never wanted to be without him and that was the first adoption we had with NMDOG. The adoption process was seamless and Angela was there for us with every question and concern we had.
The second kid we adopted from NMDOG was Rocket James, a rez dog that had been hit by a car and pretty much mangled from the back down. He required lots of physical therapy and care and NMDOG was with us for every step. She visited him at home and made sure that he had lots of toys to keep him busy during crate rest. She went with us to his final wellness exam after we decided that Rocket would be a permanent part of our family. Angela made sure we had all the tools we needed to guarantee a wonderful rest of his years and she is still there!! And not just for Rocket James and Ben, but for all of our rescues, no matter where they were rescued from!
When I first met Angela, the only thing I could think is I hope I could be as strong and determined as her. She fights tooth and nail and pushes herself to the brink with every single animal she sets out to save. She’s a giver in many ways, always there to help with advice or help within her means,( which is usually way more than anyone would think). She removes these dogs from horrible situations when they think there’s no hope left, and spends her days and nights making sure from that point on they have nothing but the best of the best. I am blessed to know her, work with her and most of all learn from her! She is a true fighter for the voiceless, and has devoted her life to the dogs. We are so lucky to have her and all the dogs past, future and present that come through her doors Will know nothing but unconditional love and support. There’s nothing better than a NMDOG. If you have a chance to get to meet her or her dogs you will know you hit the jackpot. Her heart is the biggest I know and I’m proud to be a part of the NMDOG family. This is one of the most deserving rescues that fights the hard fight!
I have worked with Angela in the past at an animal sanctuary and watched her as she started this wonderful nonprofit that benefits the chained dogs of NM. If you have the opportunity to work with her, watch her in action, or even be around her for awhile, you will know that you are in the presence of an extraordinary person. Her heart, her mind, her physical being are all about the animals she helps. She is so generous hearted, compassionate, caring and beyond the realm in the sacrifices she makes personally to do her work. She is truly one of God's angels put on earth to answer the needs of those precious dogs who need her so much. May she continue to have the strength, resources and support to do her amazing work.
We have adopted two dogs from NMDOG. Our first was the best dog that ever lived- an abused retired fighting dog, KiKiPiton. He was so full of love. We got our current dog, Lewis, from NMDOG after Piton passed away from cancer. This rescue is amazing and only takes the hardest cases. We love and support NMDOG every chance we get.
This review comes from heaven. STERLING gives NMDOG 5 stars and unlimited paw prints and nose kisses. He lived almost 5 years becasue of this rescue. He was chained and dying when NMDOG took him in, and given a few weeks to month to live. Sterling had unlimited love, fun, toys, treats, as well as medications, surgeries and bills but loved every single moment of the time he was given because of NMDOG.
“Reebok” - my foster fail….. I adopted from NMDOG in 2014 after only 3 days of fostering a sweet dog who had been rescued from Las Vegas, NM. LV is a horrible place to be an animal, and the story that came with this sweet pup was heartbreaking. Angela provided me everything she could to make our adoption a success, including information about “Reebok”, info for trusted vets, groomers and trainers, harnesses/collars, heart worm meds, and ABOVE ALL, a promise that once a NMDOG, always a NMDOG. This rescue group is amazing because they keep that promise to every dog no matter what.
My sweet boy was terrified of children. This was something I learned after adopting him and I became suspicious that maybe children had taunted him and thrown rocks at him while tethered (he does not like when things are thrown overhand). When I learned that I was pregnant w my first child, I called Angela who gave me many ideas and resources to how to best prepare my boy for the baby’s arrival. Long story short, I should probably change his name to “Lassie”, as he is the most amazing dog with both of my boys and never lets them out if his site. I was so appreciative that Angela took the time to continue to make our journey together as wonderful as possible. She has gone above and beyond for every dog, animal or human that has come across her path. Her work and endless selflessness has saved so many lives and touched thousands more. Consider adopting from this organization because not only will you have an amazing new family member, you gain a community of fellow dog lovers and a promise that your pet will be forever loved.
I don't even remember my first exposure to NMDOG; it was on social media for sure, but several years ago. I *do* remember being inspired by their mission - rescuing abused, chained and abandoned dogs across New Mexico - and I decided that my next adopted pup would be an NMDOG rescue. I honestly remember being a little shocked (positively!) by NMDOG's President, Angela, being *so* thorough in her home assessment and interview of us as potential adopters; thankfully we passed and welcomed our beloved SAILOR into our home. I've been a dedicated supporter of this rescue ever since, and believe me - it is absolutely worth it. This small but mighty rescue checks all the boxes for compassionate care of the dogs they rescue, while *never* allowing a dog to suffer unnecessarily. NMDOG partners with like-minded rescues across NM and beyond, and always puts the dogs' needs first. Please consider them if you are considering adopting your next pup! In 2015 we moved back to NM. We had recently lost my daughter's Rottweiler. Once we were ready to get another dog, we came across a post for NMDOG with a story about Bruce Wayne. He has been rescued by NMDOG after being injured and left to fend for himself. Bruce Wayne's front leg required amputation. Angela brought him over for a trial phase. Needless to say we fell in love and Brucie stayed. 8 years and he is still the best dog ever. I have since become an Animal Control Officer and NMDOG has assisted me with several cases getting dogs off their chains and providing them with shelter and other items to keep them chain free. NMDOG is also a great resource in the community with their straw program to keep animals warm in winter.
In 2015 I read about NMDOG's rescue and rehabilitation of Cubby, a heeler mix who chewed off his rear legs when he was caught in a bear trap. I had always wanted to know more about this inspirational organization, so when it came time to adopt a new dog, I reached out to Angela Stell, NMDOG's Executive Director. Angela was dealing with a hoarding case of 50 dogs, but she still found the time to be meticulous in ensuring that my next dog would be a perfect match for our environment. Her care in evaluating, educating and preparing our household was above and beyond anything I could have anticipated. Today I'm the happy guardian of two NMDOGs, and through Angela's ongoing educational and activist initiatives, I've also learned about the enormous problem New Mexico faces in dealing with its chained, abused and abandoned dogs. When my second husky swallowed a metal bottle cap last year, Angela was there for me, answering my midnight texts and setting up emergency appointments—from where I stand, she's a down-to-earth angel with enormous heart and a vision, and NMDOG continues to perform a vital service in our community. I'm proud to be a member of the NMDOG Village, and to play a very small role in helping the forgotten dogs of New Mexico.
NMDOG provides New Mexico dogs an opportunity to live a "chain free" life. They are advocates for the well being of all dogs and the lives they deserve. They provide resources for animal families throughout the year and continue to be an amazing support system to those that foster and adopt for and from them. Once an NMDOG, always an NMDOG. Angela is one of the most amazing rescuers, animal advocate, and all around person
