Getting permanent medical homes was a huge accomplishment in ensuring better medical health for mothers and children. Staff realized the need to add a drug awareness educational component to our program once it was discovered pregnant and non pregnant mothers were using marijuana periodically. This component of the program focused on helping mothers understand how it no only affected their minds but also the health of their unborn child. All of the mothers improved their understanding of health issues that could face them, even at a early age such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and other things that can disproportionately affect women living in extreme poverty and stress.
