In 2010 newspring opened an art studio where low income students can work after school and in the summer. In 2017 newspring created the butterfly project. The primary purpose of the project was to raise money for college scholarships for kids who can't otherwise afford college. The butterfly project provided an opportunity for our students to engage in community art in a way few kids their age ever can do. By participating in the butterfly project, not only do students learn from the experience and but they also take pride in beautification of the community in which they live. In 2017 newspring awarded $20,628 in college scholarships to our alumni now in college, this is also included in the grants figured above. In 2017 newspring had 40 spring branch students participate in the student art sales.
