Mission: J. Thomas Newsome's elegant Queen Anne residence (1899) served as a hub of the local African American community from which he led the fight for social justice within the Virginia. Today this restored 1899 Victorian landmark serves as a cultural center and gallery space featuring changing art exhibitions and a permanent exhibit about the life and times of J. Thomas Newsome. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recipient of a 1992 National Historic Preservation Award.
