I am one of the newer members of this group, having joined the organization within the past few years.
However, I have followed this group my whole life, since their original offices were located blocks from
my home in the Ironbound Section of Newark, New Jersey. Since joining, I have become familiar with
both the members and the programs we support. The commitment to the sport of fishing and to serving the public, demonstrated by the members, has impressed me greatly and I am proud and honored to
be considered a member of this organization. I recognized that I had made the right decision joining this group several Septembers ago, as I stood watching the first group of handicapped children and adults
decend the hill toward the lake in Echo Lake Park, located in Mountainside, NJ. We were there to provide
a day of fishing for them, and quite honestly, I was glad that I was standing alone as I observed this
scence, since I don't believe I could have held a conversation with anyone for several minutes. I recognized the importance of fishing in my life at a very early age, while growing up in a housing project in the inner city of Newark, NJ., and do believe it was a major contributing factor in making it through
that period of my life. As a result of past experiences in my life, and the positive encouragement of
members of this club, I have recently enrolled as a mentor with the national program, "Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs," administered by New Jersey's Division of Fish and Wildlife Division. For those of you that love fishing, and share a strong desire to serve the public, I couldn't encourage you more
to consider joing us. We look forward to processing your application and introducing you to the group.
Take care and have a great day.

I was really impressed with the work the club members put into the kids derby and helping people with special needs. Also on earth day teaching kids how to cast at Watchung. They also have a kids semmenar with a guest speaker and try to educate young boys and girls about clean water and fishing. The club works very hard to get kids hooked on fishing not drugs. The members spend lots of there time to raise money to stock Echo lake for all our events. A job well done by all members. Keep up the good work

This organization works with kids in the Newark area teaching them excellent life skills through their fishing programs. They have events for kids, disabled, scouts, etc. No members are paid, every cent goes toward community events. They are always running events and always short of funds. Many times they have to be creative to fund an event but the volunteers always come through.

This club is amazing. It was formed in 1907. Currently the emphasis of the club is community service. The club runs a fishing derby for people with disabilities, a fishing seminar for children, and a fishing derby for children. The club members work hard to raise funds for these. Oh yes, and we also go fishing! The club holds both freshwater and saltwater outings for our members. Please go to our website www.nbfcc.org for more info.
