Mission: New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) works in partnership with the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) to improve the prospects of children supported by the child welfare system and to engage New Yorkers in that effort. With a focus on young people in foster care, NYFC supports programs that promote paths to stable adulthood through education and sustainable relationships with caring adults.
Programs: Discretionary programs: nyfc supports programs that help older youth in foster care in new york city to become successful and self-sufficient adults. Nyfc funds programs run by administation for children's services and non-profit child welfare agencies. In 2014 the programs funded included support for the college intern coordinator, a youth climate survey for the lgbtq community and a foster parent's guide to the nyc education system.
temporarily restricted grants and initiatives: with money provided by other funders, nyfc provides administrative and financial oversight, and supports initiatives at acs that are dedicated to improving the child welfare system.
board initiative programs: nyfc has established several programs that provide tools and support to young people in foster care as they transition to adulthood. The back to school package program provides college-enrolled youth in foster care with the tools necessary to succeed during their college experience including laptop computers, printers, software, gift cards, and school supplies. In 2014 the program expanded to provide laptops and printers to youth during their first semester of college and to continue to support young people in their educational endeavors after they have transitioned out of foster care. The guardian scholars program is a comprehensive program for youth in foster care who experience significant hardships in their efforts to obtain a college education. The guardian scholars program provides essential financial, academic and emotional support to help the students graduate from college.
