Mission: The mission of the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund is to provide financial assistance and a network of support to the families of New York City Firefighters, Police Officers, Port Authority Police, and EMS workers who are killed in the line of duty. Immediately upon the death of one of these officers, the Benefit Fund provides the grieving family with $25,000. Thereafter, the Benefit Fund provides the surviving spouse with an annual distribution of $4,000 for the remainder of his or her life or, in the case of a surviving child or children, until they are twenty-one years old. Our primary goal is to raise a signficant amount of funds so that we can continue to provide meaningful support to our beneficiaries for the duration of their lives. Please see our website at www.answerthecall.org for more information.
Programs: The financial assistance given to the families generally consists of an immediate payment upon death, which is intended to help with any immediate expenses. In addition, the fund makes an annual distribution to each of the surviving families. The board of directors of the fund determines the amount payable based upon the objectives and performance of the fund.

This is a first class non-profit organization! I have been to several events over the past three years and I am always impressed with the amazing work that they do to obtain support at every donor level.
They are compassionate and convincing in their efforts to "make the case" for supporting an organization that comes to the aid of the families of the first responders who sacrificed their lives while serving and protecting the public.
The NY Police & Fire Widow's & Children's Benefit Fund is staffed by some of the most dedicated, selfless, devoted people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. It is a great example of how a group of people can come together and make great things happen. The administrative overhead is incredibly small which means most of every dollar that is donated goes where it belongs - to the beneficiaries.
I consider it an honor to be able to support these folks in their mission. I so respect the important work that they do and the ethical way in which they do it that they are the first check I write each payday. That has been the case for several years now and will be for the foreseeable future.
