Mission: NEW SCHOOLS FUND'S MISSION IS TO IMPROVE PUBLIC EDUCATION BY IDENTIFYING AND SUPPORTING THE MOST PROMISING EDUCATION VENTURES IN THE COUNTRY AND BY CREATING A NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF EDUCATION ENTREPRENEURS, EDUCATORS, LEADERS, AND OTHERS COMMITTED TO IMPROVING SCHOOLS. IN FURTHERANCE OF THESE GOALS, THE FUND MAKES GRANTS AND LOANS TO NONPROFIT ENTITIES ENGAGED IN IMPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION AND MAKES PROGRAM RELATED INVESTMENTS IN FOR-PROFIT BUSINESSES ENGAGED IN IMPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION.

Programs: Venture building: newschools invests in entrepreneurial organizations and fuels their success by coaching, and supporting their leadership teams. On behalf of our donors, our venture team screens, reviews and conducts full diligence on more than 100 potential investments in the course of a year. Once an investment is made, newschools managing partners provide board level management assistance to the leadership of our portfolio companies, connecting them to customers, funders and each other. The goal of this support is to propel rapid growth, with quality, and enable our entrepreneurs to take transformative ideas for improving public education to scale.
field building: newschools is the hub of a movement seeking to transform a broken public education system. Through our field building work, including our annual newschools summit, we connect, inspire and galvanize educators, thought leaders, policy makers and practitioners. We host frequent community of practice meetings that bring our portfolio entrepreneurs together with others to share lessons learned, discuss new findings from the field, develop partnerships and explore new ideas for improving public education, especially for the most underserved children.
