As a retired first responder with PTSD, I first heard of New Freedom Farm through friends. I visited the farm myself and was completely blown away by their unique approach to healing through horses. While equine therapy is not for me (art therapy is my healing) I have seen firsthand the impact NFF has on those who attend. Men and women who, prior to participating in NFF programs, were unable to leave the house with their family due to anxiety and triggering events are now able to be mindful and present on the farm as well as off. People find a sense of purpose working not only with the animals but also with others who are on the farm. The sense of camaraderie people experienced while serving our country and community is restored and strengthened through projects and events hosted by the farm and engagement with the greater veteran community at large. It is a safe place for people to just be present with eachother and breathe without stress/fear, which is more meaningful than many people will ever understand. In addition to farm programs that serve participants, NFF also supports veterans/first responders like myself by giving them a platform and support for other interests. Each year the farm hosts a 2 day event with music and vendors called FreedomFest. A large percentage of the food/craft vendors are veteran/first responder owned and (like me) have found therapy in creating artisan products or showcasing skills in the culinary arts. New Freedom Farm also supports the community in which it it exists and invests in its future. I have seen teenagers come to the farm as first jobs and be taught discipline and respect while learning valuable skills in communication with not only eachother but the public. The partnerships NFF has created to allow community service projects and business team building through volunteer days on the farm and even provide a resource for supervised court ordered community service. Anyone who spends 5 minutes on the farm can see what a place of healing it is for so many and the light it is to those struggling alone in the dark. I am proud to be a part of the volunteer family and would always recommend this beacon of hope in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains to anyone.
I am a first responder that struggled with PTSD and panic attacks. I visited the farms a few times for FreedomFest events and made myself come to a volunteer orientation. I have been a regular ever since. You can literally feel the peaceful atmosphere when you drive in the driveway. It's a beautiful piece of property and the Director is amazing. You are welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. Being around the horses has reduced the panic attacks. I highly recommend New Freedom Farm.
I have visited the farm numerous times. You instantly notice there's a peaceful aura in the air. Lois greets you with kindness and the volunteers are so knowledgeable about all the farm animals and their backgrounds.
This is a great organization for veterans and first responders needing a peaceful place to gather their thoughts and unwind. I've seen and felt the magic this place has to it's visitors. Highly recommend a visit. The owner and volunteers work tirelessly to make sure the animals are cared for and the participants have a great experience
I came to the farm 4 years ago with my parent and have been there during the summers ever since. I have a parent with PTSD and I have seen the farm help them so much. It's also a place that has helped me build confidence and skills. I really enjoy working with the veterans and first responders as well as their families who come to the farm. So much can be learned from them and I am thankful they have a peaceful place to go.
My wife, a retired firefighter/medic began coming to the farm 5 years ago. She had extreme difficulty leaving home and interacting with the public, often not leaving the house for weeks due to panic attacks. Since she has been spending time at the farm, her energy has changed. She spends less time alone/isolating and is now able to go in smaller crowds/public spaces with little anxiety. I am especially thankful that the farm also focuses on helping heal the damage PTSD has on the family as well. My kids and I have enjoyed volunteering as a family and spending time reconnecting with each other in healthy ways.
In 2020 i lost my son, an army Veteran and a Police officer, to Suicide. Lois from New Freedom Farms did not hesitate to reach out and help my Family thru a difficult time. The time and energy she puts into helping Veterans and First responders is unbelievable. i wish i could give her 100 stars because her and her team deserve every Glad to know we have people in our small community who care so much for strangers.

June 1st 2020 my son, a 27 year old Police officer and an army veteran, took his own life. before this time i did not know much of what New Freedom Farm was all about. After this terrible event my wife and my other son and daughter were to least to say devastated. A few days later Lois from New Freedom Farm reached out to my family wanting to honor my son with a flag they displayed at the Farm. my wife and my daughter went to the farm and talked to Lois she told us her story and explained what the Farm does and how it works. she was not able to help my son but she has helped so many people in our area that are dealing with PTSD and depression for Veterans and first responders. because of the staff at New Freedom Farm it gave me the courage to tell our story and do what we can to battle the 22 veterans suicides and the first responders that take there own lives. i want to say thank you to Lois and her staff at the Farm for greeting us with open arms and hearts and never ask nothing in return. even though the pain never goes away it is good to know we have people like these in the world to help us deal, and battle against this mental illness trying to prevent other families from going thru this. God Bless You.
New Freedom Farm is a magical place. People come from all over the country to be part of a healing that is difficult to explain. There have been many cases of veteran lives saved. Horses have been saved. The events are well organized. I think if Lois had more help it would be better the programs could expand. She is just one person.
New Freedom Farms is an amazing resource for veterans who are struggling with PTSD. Ms Lois is an amazing person who runs the farm that supports anyone who comes here that would do anything would anything for any person or animal and has a positive attitude and will work hard in any situation. Being a volunteer here I have had the opportunity to learn new skills and work with Ms Lois.
I have been working at new Freedom farm since 2021 and during the past few years I have learned countless things from Ms Lois. She has been understanding and a great boss to work for.
hello, I am a volunteer at new freedom farm and i have worked here for quite sometime and so far I am loving this place. new freedom farm is a place where veterans who has PTSD come and have a tour of the farm. I hope you come and enjoy the farm.
new freedom farm is not just a farm it is a place were veteran's that have served our country come to be with the animal's. it is a place to unwind all your thoughts .This place is great and every one who works hear is so nice .
Lois is a special lady and her New Freedom Farm is a beloved home away from home for many veterans in the areas and across the country. It is hard to explain the magic that happens at the farm each day but know it is amazing and pure.
New Freedom Farm is amazing...it continues to grow with so many veterans and first responders being helped. Lois Magill has start this non profit from the ground up. She is caring compasiontae helps so many people from all over the country. If it were not for her my life would not be what it is today. Lois has done so much from WWII veterans to young people who have been court appointed to do community service. I have witnessed her take a "wayward snotty teenager" into a respectful hard working young man.
I started going to the farm in March. I’m a Navy veteran. I had been wanting to go for about 3 years but I don’t like being around a lot of people. One day I just decided to go and I haven’t left. Everyone is so nice. Getting to interact with the horses has been great. I’ve done things I never thought I would do at my age such as fixing fences, using a skill saw and drill and it doesn’t even seem like work to me because of the great people I get to be around. I even slipped and fell in the mud and laughed about it with everyone. I have had the pleasure to help with groups coming to the farm for lunch and I have met some amazing veterans. Lois is awesome and I have a new friend in her. I love going to the farm and hanging out with the people who work there. If you get a chance to go you will probably fall in love with it like I have.
When visiting New Freedom farm with our grandson and him meeting Lois for the first time, he exclaimed, "Meema, she is magical." He was correct, Lois is New Freedom Farm.

New Freedom Farm is a safe, sober sanctuary for Veterans, First Responders and their families. The Farm offers peer to peer support and equine therapy to help them heal from PTSD, anxiety,
substance abuse and other stresses of life. Healing Heroes through Horses is the mission and daily focus of the Farm. I have seen first hand how lives have been changed through interactions with the horses, staff and each other. The Farm is truly a blessing and a gift to anyone who comes through the gate.
Before New Freedom Farm be came a non-profit, a WWII veteran would come and sit alongside the creek at the edge of NFF. He would find peace there. His wife had died. He was alone. Not too social. He was a Marine. Never spoke about his service in the thick of battle.
Then Lois created this sanctuary for Veterans, First Responders and rescued horses. New Freedom Farm came into being. She approached him. He began to visit some, then every day. He began to talk to other veterans. Then engage with Volunteers and other visitors. And the children who came. He began to talk about his experiences with other veterans. Then with others, then he began to speak publicly about the WWII veterans and their history. He was interviewed by the media. He was a featured and honored part of the Events at the Farm. Gradually, he had a life. A life with a purpose. To remember the veterans of the Great War. He was determined to have their stories told, for those stories to be part of History. To never be forgotten. They were all aging and soon they would be no more , you see.
He kept coming often, kept telling the stories. He carried a case with photos, details, dates, statistics. But, really, he didn't need it. He had it all in his head. And he would tell anyone who would listen. Time passed. His visits became fewer and fewer. He was more and more frail. Then he spoke to Lois about having a memorial at the farm when he was gone. It was VERY well attended. He was very special.
His roll top desk has a place of honor in the Vet Center at the farm. A lonely old man lived out his life in a memorable way and he was loved by all who came in contact with him. He blossomed at New Freedom Farm.
This is just ONE of the stories. There have been so very many more! That's what the Farm is all about.

I was sitting near the barn on a Saturday. It was lunch time. I heard a New Freedom Farm volunteer on the phone talking to someone who was obviously distressed. I'm paraphrasing here, the conversation was about 15 minutes + long. He kept telling the Veteran on the phone that there was hope and to come to the Farm. Told him it wasn't far and to not do anything drastic until he talked to Lois (Lois Fritz, a Navy Vet and founder of NFF). He asked questions. Talked some more. Gave him directions. Talked to him for a while as the man drove. About 1/2 an hour later, the man came through the gate. He had a long conversation with Lois and then he sat with all of us. He talked and talked. Tears in his eyes fighting not to cry. He didn't want to live any more. Life was too hard. It had been hard for awhile. Nothing was helping. He had heard of NFF. Something told him to call. It was his last resort. He spent the afternoon talking to everyone. Veterans who had been coming to NFF and could understand listened. Volunteers who maybe couldn't understand listened. He stayed for a long time. He came the next day. And the next and the next.... He worked with the horses and connected with them in the pastures. That was a few years ago. The Veteran who was on the brink of taking his own life now has purpose. He has reasons to live. All because he made a call.....
Then there was the WWII Vet. His wife had passed away and he was grieving. He was a loner. But everyday he would bring his folding chair and sit by the little creek that ran across the road from NFF. One day, Lois went over and began to talk to him. They became friends and then he began to come to the farm every day. He would tell the younger Veterans about the WWII campaigns. He had a spectacular memory. He would tell the children who were there with their Veteran parents the stories and they were fascinated and would listen to him for hours. He began to speak at NFF events. More WWII Veterans began to come. They found each other there and they would chat and then they would share their stories with the younger Veterans. They had found a second home where they were feeling valued again. It was special to watch.
And there was the young Veteran dad with PTSD. He couldn't face going out in public where there were crowds. He brought his family to the farm when no one was there. Dad continued to come to the Farm on his own and now helps out with major events when extra hands are necessary.
It's why I support this unique program so strongly. Veteran lives have been saved. Older Veterans have found community again. Veterans and their families have a place to go at no cost to them. It's peaceful. The program works. I've seen it happen over and over.
I have been connected to New Freedom Farm for several years now and what started out as a wonderful association with a Non-Profit I believe in turned into a life saving collaboration. As a television personality I feel an integral part of my job is to get out in the community and use my louder than normal voice to assist philanthropic organizations as best I can. Initially, New Freedom Farm touched a part of my heart and I wanted to get involved as much as I could. What I didn't realize was how much my connection to NFF would impact my life and my family.
I have a nephew who served in the Marines and had been having serious issues with PTSD and was heading down a dark path of self destruction. Trouble deepened and there was jail time on the doorstep until Lois and NFF got us some help.
She was instrumental in getting my nephew involved with the Veterans Court in his area. Lois was proactive with contacts and local folks that could get my nephew the help he needed as opposed to letting him go to prison. He got involved with the program, due in a large part to her assistance and successfully completed the program and is now a mentor in the program and works with the judge and court system in his area to help others in need of assistance. Without Lois and New Freedom Farm, this process would not have gone forward as it did. I am forever thankful to NFF and Lois for helping my family.
So what started out as a passion of mine for helping local non-prophets turned into a non-prophet helping my family.
She and New Freedom Farm cast a wide net across all areas of assistance with Veterans and First Responders. That net was cast into my family and pulled us safely back into the boat.

My Nephew has PTSD coupled with Alcoholism and anger management issues, which seem to go hand in hand, and was in a bit of trouble in Montana. Lois Fritz and the support group from New Freedom Farm got in touch with the Veterans Court in that area, spoke extensively with them and got me and my nephews mother(my sister) in contact with the right people. My nephew was in jail and without the help of Lois, he would be there today. Currently he is under the supervision of the Veterans Court, got in patient treatment and now out patient care and counseling, monitoring and mentoring and has just passed one year sober and is volunteering at an Equine Therapy Center in Montana... all thanks to Lois and NFF. She even offered her on site residence if he needed it, but he was not allowed to leave Montana. I am confident that without NFF and Lois, my nephew would be in prison and or possibly dead. Without the impact of NFF, my nephew would not be getting help, but getting bitter in jail. She is my hero.
I also remember a moment when she saw a little boy had a birthday party and nobody came, it was one of her attendees at the Farm's family member... she organized a party, got gifts from folks and really went all out. He ended up getting some tickets to a Philadelphia Eagles game as a result of the team being so moved by Lois' effort to help, they joined in.
She and the gang at NFF are very special.
I have been involved with NFF since opening ceremonies where I served on local Honor Guard presenting colors and raising the first flag at the Farm. I use the facility for my own PTSD therapy and have worked with the the horses and mini's. I proposed NFF starting its own Color Guard to Lois in 2018 to Honor our Veterans, Present Colors at Farm Events and attend events in Public as a form of outreach to help inform the public of NFF and all Lois does for Veterans, First Responders and their families. I have had the opportunity to work with many people all ages and backgrounds on the Color Guard. From Military Veterans, their Spouses and family members to those that have never served and children of all ages. Working with kids that have such an amazing show of Patriotism and Respect for this Country, those that serve and have a love for the animals that they help care of at NFF makes me Extremely Proud to be a part of this organization.
Hey You! Yes, You.......If you are reading this you are one step closer to experiencing one of the most amazing, incredibly healing and tremendously AWESOME times of your life. The family of New Freedom Farm are nothing short of Super Hero's. They care, they help and they don't judge! So, if you are considering a visit to the farm, just go. Tell them Navy Nick sent ya. If i'm there, please say hello. I could share my story with you, but id rather tell you in person. Perhaps I can introduce you to Watson or Ghost? The magic happens, you just have to show up. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. See ya at the Farm!!!! P.S. Thank you and Love you Shipmate!
I am very slowly working on challenges that allow me to be with other people in a more usual way after trying to manage PTSD through traditional therapies. Being with the horses is calming. I feel like a step at a time I'm meeting who I can be instead of what my life has led me to be.
New Freedom Farm is an exceptional group & a safe space to work on self or just be & both are at your pace.
My gratitude to Lois & all the volunteers.
Experience with and at New Freedom Farm has always been top notch within my timeline being there personally. A simple place for unique and long lasting camaraderie.
It's a safe place for all with open doors, there is never a must around the farm which is respectful to each persons character.
You'll never know unless you spend the time yourself. Life is full of choices.
PTSD is a very serious issue plaguing many of our service members and it's wonderful to see normal people working to keep the people that fought for us well mentally and physically. Lois was amazing to work with and I was taught many valuable lessons on managing my mental wellbeing.
New Freedom Farm has been the perfect place for a veteran struggling to find help. My husband, a US Army combat veteran, suffers from multiple service-connected disabilities, including PTSD and a TBI. He has tried so many programs, therapies, and medications with no help. He had all but given up on his life when he found New Freedom Farm. You can ask anyone that knows him; there has been a positive life-altering change over the three years since he has found NFF. He is also the first to admit that he would not be alive if it were not for the Farm.
The Lynchburg Area Veterans Council Inc. is a proud sponsor and supporter of New Freedom Farm. The magic that they work between wild mustangs and veterans in need is something born of heaven. We ask everyone to consider supporting this great non-profit. It takes a lot to keep the horses and maintain this beautiful facility.
Lois puts her heart and sole into this farm to benefit our veterans and first responders. Thanks for all you do and thanks to all the volunteers that help Lois make this farm what it is.
I was involved in the rescue of 5 pregnant thoroughbreds from slaughter. Lois Fritz stepped up to take one who immediately gave birth to a high risk foal. Her amazing professional care and love for the animals in her care was incredible, and through the years i have helped to support her work with rescued mustangs whose care is therapeutic for so many veterans and their families. The farm has evolved into an essential service for a widespread clientele, volunteers, and the animals themselves. I know it has prevented veteran suicide in many instances, and I am proud to be a member of the board.
New Freedom Farm's mission of healing heroes through horses is one that connects everyone. The farm provides a safe place for veterans and first responders to interact with horses and others with similar experiences. Founded by Lois Fritz, a veteran and forensic nurse with her own experiences around PTSD, the farm offers visitors the therapeutic benefits of being around horses. Located in Buchanan, VA, the farm is home to a number of equines, including mares and their foals saved from slaughter, mini horses, and mini donkeys, among others. New Freedom Farm is dedicated to helping those who have served our country and their families. The organization is well run and has been awarded prestigious accreditation through the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, and Guardian status from the Equus Foundation. Since 2016, the farm's residents and programs have grown and continue to find new ways to serve veterans, first responders, and their families.
I am proud to currently serve on the organization's Board of Directors.
New Freedom Farm is a warm and welcoming place that has saved lives! Everything from the mustangs to the camaraderie is a safe and friendly way for Veterans to seek therapy without feeling like they are being judged. Mustangs do not believe; they understand and are there for listening and silence.
Having been associated with New Freedom Farm for many years via several motorcycle groups support and personal support, I don't know of another Farm or support group that provides the professional, personal and safe care to veterans in need as Lois. She is truly a caring person that knows no bounds when a veteran comes to the Farm, as an individual or from the VA.
She recently made a presentation to the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council, along with 2 others that support veterans in need. We were totally awed by what she has accomplished, both personally and as a non-profit veterans support Farm operation.
New Freedom Farms has brought a bond together that has all branches of the military in. From WW2 through The Iraq/Afghanistan war, Lois, Mitch and The New Freedom Farm staff have opened the gates wide to make everyone feel wanted and welcomed.
I love what this nonprofit organization does for our veterans. It is an amazing group of people who are caring and provide emotional support for our heroes. This farm also rescues horses who need a home. Both the horses and our soldiers win! New Freedom Farm is wonderful.
New Freedom Farm (NFF) is a great place for Vets/families & police and other stressful jobs to have somewhere they can let off steam & help deal with PTSD. Lois Fritz, the lady who started NFF is a Navy Vet herself with severe PTSD.
She gets mustangs who are ready to be slaughterd and let's the Vet's, etc help train the horses. They also have chores such as feeding & watering the animals, mucking out the stalls, unloading hay, and many other chores.
There is also a building where they can gather together to eat a meal, talk to someone about issues they have or are experiencing. They also have musical instruments some of them play. They have a meal at Thanksgiving which is held in the barn for anyone that needs a meal and/or might be by theirselves during the holidays. They go Christmas caroling and many other activities during the year.
Freedom Fest is an outdoor activity for NFF to raise funds to help them operate during the year.
This year, 2021, Freedom Fest is joining a local farm that raises Sunflowers and they both will be open the same weekends in September. There are vendors with items to sell plus food vendors.
NFF has an awesome group of VOLUNTEERS that help out at the farm every day.
If you can't volunteer you can always make monetary donations, snacks & drinks, hats/gloves during the winter, and many other things that you need to keep the farm running 365 days/year.
If you need further info please call New Freedom Farm, Buchanan, VA.
I will be volunteering this year at the Sunflower Festival so come by and say hello and learn more about NFF and/or buy a t-shirt, etc.
Lois has a great opportunity for veterans in need. New Freedom Farms is a special place to learn and take care of mental health situations that may have occurred during your time in service and after returning home. During time at NFF there are other veterans there to talk with and share time with. Each with something to share. It's a place you can learn how to care for horses and even find a special four legged friend to talk to and love. God bless Lois, her horses, pups and crew.
I have been a volunteer at New Freedom Farm since 2016. In 2019 I went through a very dark time in my life I had a horrible traffic accident. I couldn't walk. I couldn't get out of bed. The community members and volunteers of New Freedom Farm came together and created a meal train for me and my family to help take care of us during this time. When they dropped off the meals they would stop in and visit for a few minute. It reminded me I was loved. I can't even begin to tell you how much it helped in my healing process. Now that I am able to walk again, I can't do all the things I used to do. I am back to volunteering at the farm. There is always such a feeling of love and support for every person that walks through the gate. It is truly wonderful. The picture is of my daughter proudly carrying the New Freedom Farm Flag in a parade around the ring.
I have been a volunteer at New Freedom Farm since 2016 when the farm opened,if you want to help a non profit that really makes a difference this is the one, I have personally witnessed the positive influence Lois the Founder has when she works with those suffering with P.T.S.D, Lois is an amazing person, gentling wild Mustangs, helping Veterans and first responders, if you want proof come visit ,if I'm there I'll show you around

Volunteer, I have been a volunteer since the farm open and have seen many hurting souls come through the gate at New Freedom Farm, After working with Lois , the founder, and the horses you can see a big difference in the way they feel and act, it makes me feel really good to know that I am volunteering my time for something that really works. Lois And Mitchel are great people always eager to help
New Freedom Farm is such a beautiful & heartwarming place.
Rescued animals call it home & incredibly brave veterans and countless others call it home as well.
The farm is all about healing, acceptance and love. What more could you ask for?
A wonderful, caring place run by amazing people. Lois and Mitch are an amazing couple who are always ready to help our veterans in any way they can.
We all love New Freedom Farm! Lois pours her heart into all that she does. She dedicates her life to the love and well being of all Veterans, Gold Star Family's, EMT and Fire fighter all the men and women who protect us from harm and keep us FREE!
I have been to this New Freedom Farm more than a few times. I constantly get something I can't explain from the atmosphere that surrounds the property. IT must be peace of mind and positivity for my inner growth. Gentle giants are a special breed of animals that bring me tranquility and ease.I have found on the days that I attend the farm I can feel a different person on the inside of me that I have not felt before, it's almost shocking! And I continue wanting to learn from these gentle giants (horses). So I continue to go there like a journey to find out more about myself that I did not know before. I am not a veteran or was ever in active military but some days I wonder what New Freedom Farm does for veteran's with ptsd considering what the farm does for me
As a Vietnam veteran I appreciate all that New Freedom Farm does and I will continue to do all I can to support NFF and Lois. It's a shame that for now events like Thanksgiving dinner have to be put on hold. I miss the camaraderie and face to face interaction I have had the privilege to experience. Rock on Lois! Dr. H
I have been associated with the founder of NFF for many years. Lois is family to me. Since the beginnings of the operation I have seen how it has been important to the persons who have come here seeking relief from issues, advice for problems and a quiet safe place to collect their thoughts. NFF provides all of that. It is amazing how interacting with the horses can be so helpful. Nearly everyone who visits benefits in some way. Animals brought to the farm have peace and people who visit receive the same. The value of this place is immeasurable. It can and has changed many peoples lives for the better. I am proud of what Lois and Mitchell and the volunteers have accomplished. NFF makes a difference.

I knew the founder of New Freedom Farm before she moved to Buchanan, VA. I came down to Virginia in several occasions to see what the farm was all about. I was absolutely amazing with what I experienced every time I was at New Freedom Farm. The camaraderie that I witnessed, the healing of veterans, the gentling of Mustangs and the connection between the veterans and Mustangs was absolutely magical. After several visits I made a decision to move to Virginia so that I could me more involved with the miracles that happen at New Freedom Farm. I have been down here for 8 months and even with COVID-19 shutting things down New Freedom Farm works relentlessly to continue rescuing Mustangs and healing humans. Being part of this organization makes my heart happy. Lois is a God send and her mission is miraculous and she has helped people all around the country and I have never met a human with more humility than Lois.

The Founder/Director and all of the volunteers at New Freedom Farm put their heart and soul into assisting Veterans with whatever it is that they need help with. The Farm is a safe and friendly environment where community members and Veterans can go and find peace and serenity and find camaraderie with others who are at the farm. The atmosphere at the farm is one of love, caring, compassion and kindness. I am truly blessed to be part of some of the activities at the Farm.
As a professional in mental health I have seen first hand the difference New Freedom Farm has made in the lives on not only veterans, first responders and even youth that has been court ordered to perform community service hours. As with every new nonprofit, there has been growing pains, protocols and certifications take time. Lois has given 24/7 to this mission of 22 too many. I have witnessed those in need underweight, suicidal, homeless, living on friends couches come to New Freedom Farm, gain weight, function, maintain sober living, NFF leased a house for a veteran for over a year and this veteran has now moved on on his own, doing amazing. The farm is a family, people that come there work together to help each other.
New Freedom Farm is a great organization that helps veterans struggling with PTSD in an equine setting. I have worked and talked with several individuals who have been helped immensely from the NFF program. I work with different organizations across the country so I know how well their program works. The program was started with very little and has turned into a fabulous program that is supported by the locals, and the hard work of many individuals especially Lois Dawn the founder. I work with veterans nationwide who are dealing with PTSD and I'd recommend that any veteran who can attend this fabulous program go there for help. Troy Shields
A place to go and feel safe, welcomed and love. Regardless if you are a veteran or civilian.

I am not a veteran with that being said my father and brother are.
I was feeling empty without a purpose and I found a place here at New Freedom Farm.
I had first came to the farm for a catering job and found it to be the most peaceful, beautiful place I've ever been. So I decided to go to the volunteer orientation with my 12 year old daughter. It brought a closeness between my daughter and I that was different then what we already had.
As I was working i had stoped and looked up and the serenity that I experienced was breath taken.
The way the horses impact the veterans with tranquility was just beautiful. I could say so much about New Freedom Farms, but I will leave you with this. If you are feeling lost, lonely or confused this is the place to be. The people that have regained a piece of themselves back due to the help of New Freedom Farms is priceless.

New Freedom Farm is a wonderful organization that helps both veterans and horses, two of my favorite causes in one place. I always feel confident that my donations are used wisely and fully to help these causes that are most dear to my heart.
New Freedom Farm is a literal life saver. Lois Dawn, former naval officer who has RN,MSN degress, has opened her farm and heart to rescue horses who rescue former military persons suffering from PTSS. It is a known fact that being with horses who have known trauma are a healing force to humans who suffer the same.
Lois has recently saved wild mustangs from certain death, brought them to the farm and has rehabilitated them to gentle helping hearts for people.
Lois puts heart, sweat, funds, energy into her work, it's 24/7. The farms runs on donations. The farm is truly a godsend to hearts and souls who need mending
New Freedom Farm certainly deserves the title of " Great Non Profit"!!
New Freedom Farm has helped many other non profits and if it weren't for New Freedom Farm my son would not be alive, he tried a lot of things to stay sober, the court made him do community service and he found himself around other sober people and now volunteers his time and works with the horses.
Hello my name is Ryan and I'm a Disabled United States Air Force Combat Veteran who suffers from severe PTSD, MST, Anxiety, Depression, and Addiction. I was on my last leg in life with 20 detox's under my belt, criminal record with organized crime ties, barely saw my daughter because my addiction of booze, drugs, women, and violence always made me "busy" and literally going downhill faster than a cannonball my options were jail or death, plain and simple!! So I said I will give it one last shot, cause I already had a plan in place to get rid of myself! I was headed up North to my camp on lake Champlain were I spent my summers my entire life and I was gonna head out on my bass boat to Diamond Island where the water can go as deep as 340 feet and the current is the strongest. Chain both my feet to cinder blocks and just drop down to the bottom and forget my miserable life as I knew it at the time. I made it to White river junction, VT VA for my last detox, if this didn't work the bottom of the lake I go!! Detox went as usual and I really thought this was the end, but this time I really connected with a guy named Jon who really felt like a brotha from another mother. So we grew closer and closer but we both realized things weren't gonna change and we will go back to our old ways! We met this woman from rolling thunder on a holiday break social that nobody went for besides me and Jon. We started talking and she spoke of this place in Virginia called New Freedom Farm that works with Vets like us but not in the traditional Rehab and connections with wild mustangs! I called Lois Dawn from NFF and said listen I'm dying this is my last shot I need my life back. Whiteout hesitation she said get down here as soon as you can!! She worked it out with the Doctors and here comes me and Jon down to Virginia 30 days sober trying so desperately to find a reason to live. We arrived and when I stepped foot on New Freedom Farm I knew in my heart I wanted life! Long story short I was lost and helpless, now I'm a sober Son, father and friends of many because of Lois Dawn and New Freedom Farm! There is so much more to this story and you can contact me anytime with questions or comments anytime irishbru8888@gmail.com....
I'm so grateful for Lois and her farm the feeling of love on her land and the wild mustangs truly ground you and give you the energy to feel alive and at peace again!
New Freedom Farm is the best. Full of heart & always willing to help when they can. Theyre real, honest & compassionate. Besides their role for veterans, their care for animals is also amazing. The community outreach they have is outstanding.
New Freedom Farm offers a place of safety, belonging, and healing. There is no pressure to follow an agenda or a regimented medical plan administered by a professional that just can not relate to what one may be going through. However, there is a structure in place that allows someone who is struggling to connect with someone who understands or with a beautiful horse that has no judgement and senses the struggles of its caretaker. Our area, our veterans, and our first responders are blessed to have New Freedom Farm and its service is a valuable contribution to our community.
I recently became a volunteer at New Freedom Farm and have discovered the heart and soul of Lois. What she is doing for veterans and others is simply amazing and is having a very positive impact on everyone, even the volunteers. Her cadre of volunteers continues to grow. NFF's mission of serving human needs through the use of Mustang horses has been a God-send.
New Freedom Farm has housed and taken responsibility for veterans who have felt or become alienated from the society that does not understand them. NFF has changed lives while bringing together a community of veterans who needed comradery to support them in their daily struggles of transitioning to a non-combatant life.
I personally have not been there before but I will this year. I will help them all I can. Our American Legion Post 3 is helping them promote the event. Veterans helping Veterans.
New Freedom Farm makes a significant difference in the lives of all ages of veterans and the wild mustangs Lois Fritz...the founder and CEO... rescues. She pairs the veterans and horses to work together to create peace and trust for both the veterans and the horses. There is a loving spirit throughout New Freedom Farm that is saving human and animal lives. Every time I go to the farm...I experience-first hand the love and caring myself. Lois's goal is to reduce the 22 veteran suicides a day to 0. Please help support this very important work!!
New Freedom Farm is a great non-profit that helps all veterans by transitioning them back to civilian life through therapeutic horse training and farm life. I am just a citizen of the Town of Buchanan, Virginia (where this great non-profit is located) but I can see the effects from the many veterans that come through the Town. I have heard many, many great stories from veterans and the families of veterans that have come to the farm for help. Each day 22 veterans commit suicide and we have a community and country need to do more to support our troops coming home. New Freedom Farm has taken an active role in lowering that statistic and hopefully one day eliminating it altogether. We need more non-profits like New Freedom Farm in this country! Thank you for all you do!
I’ve been a volunteer at New Freedom Farm for 3 years now. Lois is very driven to help veterans and first responders by healing their trauma through horses. I’ve seen first hand the wonders she does and it’s nothing but amazing. The veterans and horses improve what seems like overnight sometimes. I highly recommend that if you have not yet visited the farm that you do so soon!
New Freedom Farm is a blessing in more than one way. It was established to help veterans and mustangs but it does so much more. For families who have lost a son or daughter (Gold Star Families), they also find healing in helping other veterans at New Freedom Farm. Our community is lucky to have this facility in the area. Not only does it help the veterans and the mustangs, the volunteers can say they helped someone find peace within themselves.

Upon entering the gate at New Freedom Farm, I immediately feel safe and at peace. As a volunteer it is amazing to see the horses and humans respond to each other. Talking to the veterans and listening to their experiences is a history lesson like none you have ever heard. Buchanan, VA is lucky to have New Freedom Farm.
This farm is a blessing for all who served, and all the family that supported the person who sacrificed for our country.
She deserves every single penny anyone can spare. Healing veterans, saving horses on the three strikes you're Alpo list, kindness, caring, generosity. Feeding solo veterans with no family, or place to celebrate on Thanksgiving on her own dime (and with much needed donations by people sponsoring a meal for a veteran), her patience and true love of serving those who served, and those equine have been, abused, abandoned, forgotten, or the Wild Mustangs of our wilderness that are on the slaughter block.
Please give anything you can spare+
Always welcoming, always helpful, compassionate and kind.
Never any fee.
Camaraderie among vets and first responders and their family members.
Great outdoors setting. Opportunity for up close and hands on contact with horses.
Very helpful.
Let me tell you...Freedom Farm has the most amazing heart ❤, time and programs available for Veterans who need the way back home to their lives. Since being associated with Freedom Farms, I have found an inner Warrior within myself who is willing to get out of bed everyday again.
I witness the good Freedom Farm does for Veterans daily. THIS I KNOW! Our Veterans are HEROES. They deserve the best treatment! Freedom Farms can help Veterans back to a place to where they feel SAFE AND SECURE! LOVED. NEEDED.
All one has to do is visit the Farm and mingle with the veterans to understand why we so appreciate New Freedom “Veterans” Farm. Lois and all her volunteers are fabulous!!
New Freedom Farm does an amazing job of saving souls...horses and Veterans. Lois Fritz and her team of volunteers, family and friends work tirelessly to keep New Freedom Farm a safe haven for those in need. They define the word "nonprofit" because of their devotion to their cause.
Excellent resource for our Veterans in the Roanoke/Salem vicinity who are seeking a quiet, friendly environment where they can relate directly to horses (big and small) as emotional support animals. Also provides support to Veterans in crisis. Owned and managed by a 100% disabled military veteran. Very friendly, outgoing staff of volunteers. Hosts "Freedom Fest" each year in support of Veterans.
I was there from the beginning. I've watched the progress of both the physical plant and the fulfillment of the mission. I've been present when a veteran in crisis strong enough for him to want to take his own life found peace long enough for him to find hope that life could be worth living. I've seen veterans from World War II through current campaigns find solace and camaraderie in each others company. I've seen families come together to share experiences no civilian could understand. What happens at New Freedom Farm is by no means a permanent "cure" for all the ramifications resulting from the devastating effects of our heroes defending our country but it is an oasis. A place of peace and harmony in the chaos of lives - just for a while.

I am not a veteran. I come to volunteer. The sense of peace I feel when I arrive is magical. the sense of knowing I made a difference when I leave is overwhelming. The space in between is watching what happens when veterans, their families and friends come to this farm and get what they need even if it's just for a little while. The comments are truly heartwarming. Just this morning, after an event, one veteran - who suffers from PTSD - said he was seriously thinking of selling his home and moving closer so he could have daily access to what happens there. Each time I go, I see repeat visitors connecting with one of the horses. Or just sitting around and talking to a fellow vet. Or children of a veteran petting one of the mini horses. Again and again and again. Like I said, it's magical.
New Freedom Farm goes above and beyond to help our Veterans and their Family's.

Lois Fritz and New Freedom Farm are spot on when it comes to honoring, respecting, and serving our veterans. I know of no other place that has so much compassion and love for our veterans than Lois and her team. New Freedom Farm has an incredible way of using horses to aid in the recovery and healing process of our men and women who have served our country. Come experience the peace and tranquility of New Freedom Farm, you will be glad you did! Prayers for New Freedom Farm and for our sacrificial veterans of whom, all gave some, some gave all. We thank you and salute you for your service! - Pastor Darrell
I have had the privilege to volunteer on my own time with New Freedom Farm and support New Freedom Farm through my role in Economic Development. The impact New Freedom Farm is having on our community in beyond is incredible, the ripple effect of empathy, compassion, active listening, team work that is you are embraced with from the moment you mention to Lois and Mitchell that you want to help through the time on the farm to the thank you after you have volunteered is truly life changing. My expieriences bring me to tears when I reflect on the opportunities I have had to serve with the men and women who have willingly served our Country is truly incredible. The stories shared by the people I have met have changed my life forever. I truly believe that New Freedom Farm is a game changer. The mission and ministry that as is stated so boldly - New Freedom Farm is built on faith and determination, New Freedom Farm is dedicated to helping those who have served our country along with their families. I am grateful, thankful and blessed to support New Freedom Farm with my time.
Highly recommend New Freedom Farm!! They have been a huge asset to Buchanan, doing great things for and with our veterans!!!!
When I met Lois from New Freedom Farm she had a look of being so scared asking for help. I work for a non profit helping veterans with filing claims with the VA and I knew I wanted to help her. We went forward, filed the claim and I must say Lois was the most organized person I have ever met with her evidence to help get the claim granted. We talked a lot and I hope we helped her with those talks to get her through the process. When it was granted for more that what we thought it was such a blessing. I believed in her and I knew this was going to help her. But the one thing that stood out when we talked was her love for New Freedom Farms. Her face would always light up when she talked about the veterans that she was helping at the farm and the horses that she loved to work with and the way the horses was healing her and the veterans she was helping. It is a beautiful thing how our animals are so amazing like this and Lois saw this and moved forward to be a blessing to so many.
New Freedom Farm is a safe, caring environment for veterans of all ages. Lois and Mitch have created a place that serves veterans and their families. With Lois' background of both military service, and forensic nursing, she is able to understand veterans' needs. I deal with veterans who have gotten involved in the criminal justice system, usually due to a mental health or substance abuse problem. New Freedom Farms provides them with an opportunity to heal through equine therapy, and gives them a place to be heard. I highly recommend this facility to all veterans.
Luv these people and the atmosphere is amazing.god bless them for helping our veterans!!! Luv spending time with them they are amazing
As a volunteer, my experience with New Freedom Farm is a journey of fulfillment, wonder and personal growth. The sense of purpose provides meaning, the sense of “being” provides nourishment to my soul and the sense of belonging provides emotional healing. Magic happens at New Freedom Farm for humans and animals. The dedication of owners Lois and Mitch is inspiring and the friendships formed will last a lifetime.
I have been a volunteer at New Freedom Farm since it was founded. This farm is where our Veterans can come and just be. I have seen magic happen here. It is amazing how the horses, mule and donkeys understand and feel when a Veteran needs their companionship and comfort. Some of the wonderful horses on the farm had a terrible life and were slaughter bound before they were saved. Now that they can live in peace and without fear... they are healing our Veterans.
I am a donor. Great organization with caring people and dedicated leadership. Helping PTSD veterans is a wonderful task because it is so needed. NFF is a great place. I give as much as I can when I can.
New freedom farm is my second home. I feel so loved and cared for.Lois has been a blessing in my life. She directed me to an amazing horse who is a joy. Everything she does is for others. She's incredible.
New Freedom Farm is an amazing organization. They provide a healing environment for veterans with PTSD, substance abuse issues, TBI, etc. Many rescued horses who now live in sanctuary at New Freedom Farm connect with the hurting humans who visit there, and those beings forge bonds that heal. The organization was founded by a US Navy veteran, Lois Dawn, and she is the president of the organization. She’s there everyday, welcoming veterans in need of support. Because she’s a veteran, she makes a quick connection with many of the veterans who come seeking solace. New Freedom Farm is an amazing place doing amazing things for the men and women who have served our country.
