New Freedom Farm is a safe, caring environment for veterans of all ages. Lois and Mitch have created a place that serves veterans and their families. With Lois' background of both military service, and forensic nursing, she is able to understand veterans' needs. I deal with veterans who have gotten involved in the criminal justice system, usually due to a mental health or substance abuse problem. New Freedom Farms provides them with an opportunity to heal through equine therapy, and gives them a place to be heard. I highly recommend this facility to all veterans.
This IS the place! New Freedom Farm is magical, they help people and animals and will help your spirit even when you didn't think you needed it. If you chose to donate, all of your donation goes to help their cause. Owners, visitors and volunteers make the magic happen and change the lives of many!
Luv these people and the atmosphere is amazing.god bless them for helping our veterans!!! Luv spending time with them they are amazing
As a volunteer, my experience with New Freedom Farm is a journey of fulfillment, wonder and personal growth. The sense of purpose provides meaning, the sense of “being” provides nourishment to my soul and the sense of belonging provides emotional healing. Magic happens at New Freedom Farm for humans and animals. The dedication of owners Lois and Mitch is inspiring and the friendships formed will last a lifetime.
I have been a volunteer at New Freedom Farm since it was founded. This farm is where our Veterans can come and just be. I have seen magic happen here. It is amazing how the horses, mule and donkeys understand and feel when a Veteran needs their companionship and comfort. Some of the wonderful horses on the farm had a terrible life and were slaughter bound before they were saved. Now that they can live in peace and without fear... they are healing our Veterans.
I am a donor. Great organization with caring people and dedicated leadership. Helping PTSD veterans is a wonderful task because it is so needed. NFF is a great place. I give as much as I can when I can.
I am not a veteran. I come to volunteer. The sense of peace I feel when I arrive is magical. the sense of knowing I made a difference when I leave is overwhelming. The space in between is watching what happens when veterans, their families and friends come to this farm and get what they need even if it's just for a little while. The comments are truly heartwarming. Just this morning, after an event, one veteran - who suffers from PTSD - said he was seriously thinking of selling his home and moving closer so he could have daily access to what happens there. Each time I go, I see repeat visitors connecting with one of the horses. Or just sitting around and talking to a fellow vet. Or children of a veteran petting one of the mini horses. Again and again and again. Like I said, it's magical.
Upon entering the gate at New Freedom Farm, I immediately feel safe and at peace. As a volunteer it is amazing to see the horses and humans respond to each other. Talking to the veterans and listening to their experiences is a history lesson like none you have ever heard. Buchanan, VA is lucky to have New Freedom Farm.
New freedom farm is my second home. I feel so loved and cared for.Lois has been a blessing in my life. She directed me to an amazing horse who is a joy. Everything she does is for others. She's incredible.
New Freedom Farm is a horse sanctuary,Lois the founder has 18 horses, all but one have been rescued from slaughter,2 were pregnant when they arrived at the farm, their babies are now residents at the farm , all these horses were nursed back to health and shown lots of love.Lois is a Navy Veteran herself and understands P.T.S.D. , She uses the horses to help Veterans heal from P.T.S.D, I have been a volunteer at the farm since before the official name, New Freedom Farm ,and I have personally seen the improvements in those who come spend time at the farm ,whether it's Group sessions with other veterans, spending time with a horse, or talking with lois. Magic really does happen here!
New Freedom Farm is an amazing organization. They provide a healing environment for veterans with PTSD, substance abuse issues, TBI, etc. Many rescued horses who now live in sanctuary at New Freedom Farm connect with the hurting humans who visit there, and those beings forge bonds that heal. The organization was founded by a US Navy veteran, Lois Dawn, and she is the president of the organization. She’s there everyday, welcoming veterans in need of support. Because she’s a veteran, she makes a quick connection with many of the veterans who come seeking solace. New Freedom Farm is an amazing place doing amazing things for the men and women who have served our country.
