As a professional in mental health I have seen first hand the difference New Freedom Farm has made in the lives on not only veterans, first responders and even youth that has been court ordered to perform community service hours. As with every new nonprofit, there has been growing pains, protocols and certifications take time. Lois has given 24/7 to this mission of 22 too many. I have witnessed those in need underweight, suicidal, homeless, living on friends couches come to New Freedom Farm, gain weight, function, maintain sober living, NFF leased a house for a veteran for over a year and this veteran has now moved on on his own, doing amazing. The farm is a family, people that come there work together to help each other.

I have been to this New Freedom Farm more than a few times. I constantly get something I can't explain from the atmosphere that surrounds the property. IT must be peace of mind and positivity for my inner growth. Gentle giants are a special breed of animals that bring me tranquility and ease.I have found on the days that I attend the farm I can feel a different person on the inside of me that I have not felt before, it's almost shocking! And I continue wanting to learn from these gentle giants (horses). So I continue to go there like a journey to find out more about myself that I did not know before. I am not a veteran or was ever in active military but some days I wonder what New Freedom Farm does for veteran's with ptsd considering what the farm does for me

As a Vietnam veteran I appreciate all that New Freedom Farm does and I will continue to do all I can to support NFF and Lois. It's a shame that for now events like Thanksgiving dinner have to be put on hold. I miss the camaraderie and face to face interaction I have had the privilege to experience. Rock on Lois! Dr. H

I have been associated with the founder of NFF for many years. Lois is family to me. Since the beginnings of the operation I have seen how it has been important to the persons who have come here seeking relief from issues, advice for problems and a quiet safe place to collect their thoughts. NFF provides all of that. It is amazing how interacting with the horses can be so helpful. Nearly everyone who visits benefits in some way. Animals brought to the farm have peace and people who visit receive the same. The value of this place is immeasurable. It can and has changed many peoples lives for the better. I am proud of what Lois and Mitchell and the volunteers have accomplished. NFF makes a difference.

Beautiful place to find yourself. Wonderful people. The place is peaceful and the sights are amazing. Something about the smell of hay and the sound of horses to take you away from the stress of life and start healing on the inside. It's a great non-profit organization.

I knew the founder of New Freedom Farm before she moved to Buchanan, VA. I came down to Virginia in several occasions to see what the farm was all about. I was absolutely amazing with what I experienced every time I was at New Freedom Farm. The camaraderie that I witnessed, the healing of veterans, the gentling of Mustangs and the connection between the veterans and Mustangs was absolutely magical. After several visits I made a decision to move to Virginia so that I could me more involved with the miracles that happen at New Freedom Farm. I have been down here for 8 months and even with COVID-19 shutting things down New Freedom Farm works relentlessly to continue rescuing Mustangs and healing humans. Being part of this organization makes my heart happy. Lois is a God send and her mission is miraculous and she has helped people all around the country and I have never met a human with more humility than Lois.

The Founder/Director and all of the volunteers at New Freedom Farm put their heart and soul into assisting Veterans with whatever it is that they need help with. The Farm is a safe and friendly environment where community members and Veterans can go and find peace and serenity and find camaraderie with others who are at the farm. The atmosphere at the farm is one of love, caring, compassion and kindness. I am truly blessed to be part of some of the activities at the Farm.

I was sitting near the barn on a Saturday. It was lunch time. I heard a New Freedom Farm volunteer on the phone talking to someone who was obviously distressed. I'm paraphrasing here, the conversation was about 15 minutes + long. He kept telling the Veteran on the phone that there was hope and to come to the Farm. Told him it wasn't far and to not do anything drastic until he talked to Lois (Lois Fritz, a Navy Vet and founder of NFF). He asked questions. Talked some more. Gave him directions. Talked to him for a while as the man drove. About 1/2 an hour later, the man came through the gate. He had a long conversation with Lois and then he sat with all of us. He talked and talked. Tears in his eyes fighting not to cry. He didn't want to live any more. Life was too hard. It had been hard for awhile. Nothing was helping. He had heard of NFF. Something told him to call. It was his last resort. He spent the afternoon talking to everyone. Veterans who had been coming to NFF and could understand listened. Volunteers who maybe couldn't understand listened. He stayed for a long time. He came the next day. And the next and the next.... He worked with the horses and connected with them in the pastures. That was a few years ago. The Veteran who was on the brink of taking his own life now has purpose. He has reasons to live. All because he made a call.....
Then there was the WWII Vet. His wife had passed away and he was grieving. He was a loner. But everyday he would bring his folding chair and sit by the little creek that ran across the road from NFF. One day, Lois went over and began to talk to him. They became friends and then he began to come to the farm every day. He would tell the younger Veterans about the WWII campaigns. He had a spectacular memory. He would tell the children who were there with their Veteran parents the stories and they were fascinated and would listen to him for hours. He began to speak at NFF events. More WWII Veterans began to come. They found each other there and they would chat and then they would share their stories with the younger Veterans. They had found a second home where they were feeling valued again. It was special to watch.
And there was the young Veteran dad with PTSD. He couldn't face going out in public where there were crowds. He brought his family to the farm when no one was there. Dad continued to come to the Farm on his own and now helps out with major events when extra hands are necessary.
It's why I support this unique program so strongly. Veteran lives have been saved. Older Veterans have found community again. Veterans and their families have a place to go at no cost to them. It's peaceful. The program works. I've seen it happen over and over.

New Freedom Farm is a great organization that helps veterans struggling with PTSD in an equine setting. I have worked and talked with several individuals who have been helped immensely from the NFF program. I work with different organizations across the country so I know how well their program works. The program was started with very little and has turned into a fabulous program that is supported by the locals, and the hard work of many individuals especially Lois Dawn the founder. I work with veterans nationwide who are dealing with PTSD and I'd recommend that any veteran who can attend this fabulous program go there for help. Troy Shields

I am not a veteran with that being said my father and brother are.
I was feeling empty without a purpose and I found a place here at New Freedom Farm.
I had first came to the farm for a catering job and found it to be the most peaceful, beautiful place I've ever been. So I decided to go to the volunteer orientation with my 12 year old daughter. It brought a closeness between my daughter and I that was different then what we already had.
As I was working i had stoped and looked up and the serenity that I experienced was breath taken.
The way the horses impact the veterans with tranquility was just beautiful. I could say so much about New Freedom Farms, but I will leave you with this. If you are feeling lost, lonely or confused this is the place to be. The people that have regained a piece of themselves back due to the help of New Freedom Farms is priceless.

New Freedom Farm is a literal life saver. Lois Dawn, former naval officer who has RN,MSN degress, has opened her farm and heart to rescue horses who rescue former military persons suffering from PTSS. It is a known fact that being with horses who have known trauma are a healing force to humans who suffer the same.
Lois has recently saved wild mustangs from certain death, brought them to the farm and has rehabilitated them to gentle helping hearts for people.
Lois puts heart, sweat, funds, energy into her work, it's 24/7. The farms runs on donations. The farm is truly a godsend to hearts and souls who need mending
New Freedom Farm certainly deserves the title of " Great Non Profit"!!

My Nephew has PTSD coupled with Alcoholism and anger management issues, which seem to go hand in hand, and was in a bit of trouble in Montana. Lois Fritz and the support group from New Freedom Farm got in touch with the Veterans Court in that area, spoke extensively with them and got me and my nephews mother(my sister) in contact with the right people. My nephew was in jail and without the help of Lois, he would be there today. Currently he is under the supervision of the Veterans Court, got in patient treatment and now out patient care and counseling, monitoring and mentoring and has just passed one year sober and is volunteering at an Equine Therapy Center in Montana... all thanks to Lois and NFF. She even offered her on site residence if he needed it, but he was not allowed to leave Montana. I am confident that without NFF and Lois, my nephew would be in prison and or possibly dead. Without the impact of NFF, my nephew would not be getting help, but getting bitter in jail. She is my hero.

I also remember a moment when she saw a little boy had a birthday party and nobody came, it was one of her attendees at the Farm's family member... she organized a party, got gifts from folks and really went all out. He ended up getting some tickets to a Philadelphia Eagles game as a result of the team being so moved by Lois' effort to help, they joined in.
She and the gang at NFF are very special.

Hello my name is Ryan and I'm a Disabled United States Air Force Combat Veteran who suffers from severe PTSD, MST, Anxiety, Depression, and Addiction. I was on my last leg in life with 20 detox's under my belt, criminal record with organized crime ties, barely saw my daughter because my addiction of booze, drugs, women, and violence always made me "busy" and literally going downhill faster than a cannonball my options were jail or death, plain and simple!! So I said I will give it one last shot, cause I already had a plan in place to get rid of myself! I was headed up North to my camp on lake Champlain were I spent my summers my entire life and I was gonna head out on my bass boat to Diamond Island where the water can go as deep as 340 feet and the current is the strongest. Chain both my feet to cinder blocks and just drop down to the bottom and forget my miserable life as I knew it at the time. I made it to White river junction, VT VA for my last detox, if this didn't work the bottom of the lake I go!! Detox went as usual and I really thought this was the end, but this time I really connected with a guy named Jon who really felt like a brotha from another mother. So we grew closer and closer but we both realized things weren't gonna change and we will go back to our old ways! We met this woman from rolling thunder on a holiday break social that nobody went for besides me and Jon. We started talking and she spoke of this place in Virginia called New Freedom Farm that works with Vets like us but not in the traditional Rehab and connections with wild mustangs! I called Lois Dawn from NFF and said listen I'm dying this is my last shot I need my life back. Whiteout hesitation she said get down here as soon as you can!! She worked it out with the Doctors and here comes me and Jon down to Virginia 30 days sober trying so desperately to find a reason to live. We arrived and when I stepped foot on New Freedom Farm I knew in my heart I wanted life! Long story short I was lost and helpless, now I'm a sober Son, father and friends of many because of Lois Dawn and New Freedom Farm! There is so much more to this story and you can contact me anytime with questions or comments anytime irishbru8888@gmail.com....
I'm so grateful for Lois and her farm the feeling of love on her land and the wild mustangs truly ground you and give you the energy to feel alive and at peace again!

New Freedom Farm offers a place of safety, belonging, and healing. There is no pressure to follow an agenda or a regimented medical plan administered by a professional that just can not relate to what one may be going through. However, there is a structure in place that allows someone who is struggling to connect with someone who understands or with a beautiful horse that has no judgement and senses the struggles of its caretaker. Our area, our veterans, and our first responders are blessed to have New Freedom Farm and its service is a valuable contribution to our community.

New Freedom Farm makes a significant difference in the lives of all ages of veterans and the wild mustangs Lois Fritz...the founder and CEO... rescues. She pairs the veterans and horses to work together to create peace and trust for both the veterans and the horses. There is a loving spirit throughout New Freedom Farm that is saving human and animal lives. Every time I go to the farm...I experience-first hand the love and caring myself. Lois's goal is to reduce the 22 veteran suicides a day to 0. Please help support this very important work!!

New Freedom Farm is a great non-profit that helps all veterans by transitioning them back to civilian life through therapeutic horse training and farm life. I am just a citizen of the Town of Buchanan, Virginia (where this great non-profit is located) but I can see the effects from the many veterans that come through the Town. I have heard many, many great stories from veterans and the families of veterans that have come to the farm for help. Each day 22 veterans commit suicide and we have a community and country need to do more to support our troops coming home. New Freedom Farm has taken an active role in lowering that statistic and hopefully one day eliminating it altogether. We need more non-profits like New Freedom Farm in this country! Thank you for all you do!

New Freedom Farm is a blessing in more than one way. It was established to help veterans and mustangs but it does so much more. For families who have lost a son or daughter (Gold Star Families), they also find healing in helping other veterans at New Freedom Farm. Our community is lucky to have this facility in the area. Not only does it help the veterans and the mustangs, the volunteers can say they helped someone find peace within themselves.

Excellent resource for our Veterans in the Roanoke/Salem vicinity who are seeking a quiet, friendly environment where they can relate directly to horses (big and small) as emotional support animals. Also provides support to Veterans in crisis. Owned and managed by a 100% disabled military veteran. Very friendly, outgoing staff of volunteers. Hosts "Freedom Fest" each year in support of Veterans.

I was there from the beginning. I've watched the progress of both the physical plant and the fulfillment of the mission. I've been present when a veteran in crisis strong enough for him to want to take his own life found peace long enough for him to find hope that life could be worth living. I've seen veterans from World War II through current campaigns find solace and camaraderie in each others company. I've seen families come together to share experiences no civilian could understand. What happens at New Freedom Farm is by no means a permanent "cure" for all the ramifications resulting from the devastating effects of our heroes defending our country but it is an oasis. A place of peace and harmony in the chaos of lives - just for a while.

I am not a veteran. I come to volunteer. The sense of peace I feel when I arrive is magical. the sense of knowing I made a difference when I leave is overwhelming. The space in between is watching what happens when veterans, their families and friends come to this farm and get what they need even if it's just for a little while. The comments are truly heartwarming. Just this morning, after an event, one veteran - who suffers from PTSD - said he was seriously thinking of selling his home and moving closer so he could have daily access to what happens there. Each time I go, I see repeat visitors connecting with one of the horses. Or just sitting around and talking to a fellow vet. Or children of a veteran petting one of the mini horses. Again and again and again. Like I said, it's magical.

When I met Lois from New Freedom Farm she had a look of being so scared asking for help. I work for a non profit helping veterans with filing claims with the VA and I knew I wanted to help her. We went forward, filed the claim and I must say Lois was the most organized person I have ever met with her evidence to help get the claim granted. We talked a lot and I hope we helped her with those talks to get her through the process. When it was granted for more that what we thought it was such a blessing. I believed in her and I knew this was going to help her. But the one thing that stood out when we talked was her love for New Freedom Farms. Her face would always light up when she talked about the veterans that she was helping at the farm and the horses that she loved to work with and the way the horses was healing her and the veterans she was helping. It is a beautiful thing how our animals are so amazing like this and Lois saw this and moved forward to be a blessing to so many.

New Freedom Farm is an amazing organization. They provide a healing environment for veterans with PTSD, substance abuse issues, TBI, etc. Many rescued horses who now live in sanctuary at New Freedom Farm connect with the hurting humans who visit there, and those beings forge bonds that heal. The organization was founded by a US Navy veteran, Lois Dawn, and she is the president of the organization. She’s there everyday, welcoming veterans in need of support. Because she’s a veteran, she makes a quick connection with many of the veterans who come seeking solace. New Freedom Farm is an amazing place doing amazing things for the men and women who have served our country.
