Programs: Health care without walls: nehi's health care without walls initiative focuses on advancing the development of a more distributed and accessible health care system, drawing on current and future technologies. Health care without walls is premised on the notion that advances in technology, such as telehealth and remote sensors, are already shifting care outside of conventional institutional settings, including hospitals and physicians' offices. Coupled with other innovations, such as a greater focus on population health, new payment models, and an augmented health care work force, these changes could bring health and health care closer to individuals and address their needs as much as possible in the home, community, or work place. In 2017, nehi launched the initiative with a day-long conference in washington, dc and has convened stakeholders from across the health, health care, and technology sectors to produce a series of thought-leadership products that will recommend policy changes to be made at the state and federal level, as well as steps taken by the private sector to adapt to or usher in the new care ecosystem. Divided into five work streams, these stakeholders have identified opportunities and challenges in the realms of technology, payment/reimbursement, federal and state regulations, human factors, and the health care work force.
value-based contracting:with support from several payers, biopharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacy benefit managers, and other stakeholders, nehi has conducted three convenings on value-based contracting for biopharmaceuticals, examining the opportunities for, and barriers to, these arrangements. In tandem with these stakeholders, nehi crafted two white papers; one, released in march 2017, on value-based contracting, and the other on value-based contracting in oncology, published in october 2017. Both papers outline recommendations for changes in federal policy that will facilitate value-based contracting. Nehi is helping audiences understand value-based contracting in the context of other critical trends in u. S. Health care, such as the movement towards value-based provider payment, and the rationale for the proposed policy changes discussed in the white paper.
boston health data initiative:the ge-nehi boston health data initiative will create a state-of-the-art technology platform and will collect and aggregate data, to enable local health systems, public health agencies, researchers, community leaders, and the public to understand the health status of individuals and populations within the city of boston. Our goals are to 1) explore the potential of accessing all relevant and actionable health, health care, and social determinants of health data, and creating new data sources as needed; and 2) enable even more robust and effective health improvement plans for boston. Nehi serves as the backbone organization for this initiative. In 2017, nehi worked with experts, thought leaders and stakeholders to identify current data gaps and develop specific strategies for closing those gaps and integrating the data into a single widely-accessible platform focusing on health, health care and the social determinants of health in the city of boston.
