Mission: New city christian school serves kindergarten through 5th grade students from various racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. New city equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and hope to fulfill god's purposes in their lives and community. We accomplish this goal by providing a strong foundation in academic, spiritual, and relational growth. Ultimately through christ our saviour and redeemer, with our families, students, staff and new city christian school initiatives, we hope to reduce the educational gap and cultural divisions within the greater asheville community.
Programs: Provide a full-day academic program to students not succeeding in traditional public schools for grades k-5. 1. Our may 2017 test scores from the iowa test of basic skills (itbs), a nationally standardized test, showed the 2nd through 5th grades, reading at or above grade level. Additionally, students in grades 2nd through 5th were shown working (as a whole) at an average or above average level in the core subjects of reading, math and language. 2. New city increased the exposure that our students have to experiential learning outside the classroom through field trips to places such as arboretums, battlefields, museums, college campuses and farms. New city was one of the first schools chosen to partner with the nc arboretums new owl program. 3. We heightened our students career exposure by implementing a career week featuring over a dozen speakers from a broad range of professions. We also visited ashevilles premier workforce training site, asheville-buncombe technical community college and other places of work.
I love volunteering at New City Christian School. The children and the teachers are so glad to see you and they are so thankful for your help. I think that the time spent at New City is as rewarding for me as as it is to the kids.
I served for two years as a volunteer choir director. New City Christian School takes children and their education seriously, and they have succeeded in improving the reading abilities of scores of mostly minority students in our city of Asheville. They set a goal of accomplishing this, and they are doing it. After 30 years in school administration, I can testify to their effectiveness.— Andrew Belz
Like many people who visit this school, I was captivated within minutes. You can tell that there is true learning going on in the classrooms and that there is real love. The school feels like a family and these students are responding to the Christ-centered education they are receiving.
The students at New City are getting an excellent education, and they are gaining a solid understanding of their value and purpose in the world. I have supported New City financially since it began, I have visited the school, observed the classes, and talked to the staff. Every dollar I have contributed has been well spent.
