New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue is dedicated to the animals they rescue and rehab. I just adopted my second dog from them and have nothing but positive things to say. The fosters I've worked with are understanding and put their hearts into their mission. I've never experienced anything but kindness with them, and both times they were so accommodating in terms of meeting up and my "gotcha" days. I will continue to adopt from them and to support them in honor of all the pups they have given love, tears, and homes to! New Beginnings Shih Tsu Rescue has been a wonderful addition to my life and my families; friends and coworkers lives.
They’ve helped my extended family and many friends and coworkers adopt dogs that otherwise would have been put down.
3 of my wifes siblings have gotten dogs from them, as well as an adult nephew and our son.
I have coworkers and neighbors who have, and we have adopted our 3 from them as well.
I’ve personally seen them pay for high cost medical procedures and give dogs a chance at life that no other rescue would. I’m aware of personal sacrifices that their volunteers make frequently to ensure their animals are cared for; Safe; Healthy; Well adjusted.
I honestly don’t know a group of people who care more or give of them selves more than these New Beginnings Staff and Volunteers. Countless unrewarded hours of support and help simply to do good for dogs and the people who ultimately get to love them.
They ensure all their dogs are healthy; screened and treated by a veterinarian and have all their care provided properly for. Vaccines and dental procedures. Spayed and neutering. Hernia repair surgery. The list goes on and on.
They do a great job at qualifying adopters ensuring they are qualified and have safe settings for dogs. They’re speak with references and veterinarian about their other animals. They have great communication with their fosters and support them and answer questions for them to best support the dogs during the entire process.
I have adopted dogs and cats from other sources. I’m a huge fan of New Beginnings Shih Tsu Rescue for every experience I’ve ever seen; had personal knowledge of or been a part of as a person involved with my family; friends; neighbors and coworkers adoptions from them.

As I write this review one of the 5 pups we've adopted from New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue is sound asleep on my chest. She was on the auction block in Missouri with an impacted tooth and infection the size of a golf ball...another victim of a puppy mill. When she was turned over to NBSTR, their loving team immediately took her to an emergency veterinarian. And so started the long process of her healing and having most of her teeth pulled. The doctor thought she was probably in pain for at least a year. NBSTR is a group of volunteers who devote their lives to saving dogs from puppy mills..dogs who live in horrible conditions with no dental or health care and do nothing but produce puppies and live in scorching hot barns in cages in the summer...or if they are unfortunate enough to be in a cage near the outside walls of the barn, they freeze to death in winter. And when they no longer can "produce", they are sent to auction or killed. Yes folks...this is the reality the volunteers at NBSTR deal with day after day. Their mission is to not only save these dogs, but to match them with a patient, loving owner. Anyone who says anything negative about this group...you should be ashamed of yourself. Your negative comments could prevent someone from adopting one of their dogs and rob that pup from a chance to be loved and a part of a family. If you have a problem or complaint, give them a chance to address it instead of blasting them on social media. They made it very clear to me with each adoption that I could return any dog to them if it didn't work out. Try walking a mile in their shoes. Most of us couldn't "do it" ...we would be too upset to think about and see how puppy mill dogs suffer. We live in a world of scams and mistrust and people who are quick to criticize. New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue is the real deal....and the proof is curled up and still asleep on my chest.
Our family has adopted several dogs from NBSTR...the stories behind the animals they rescue are heartbreaking, but the new lives they give to them by finding loving homes ....priceless! Don't believe any negative comments. This organization has only one goal...to help puppy mill survivors get a chance to know a life of freedom outside of a cage with the right person/family. If you are considering adopting a dog, you will find the love of your life with NBSTR. I sure did!
I have adopted two of the floodiest little floofs from NBSTR and couldn’t be happier. I’m confused by some of the other comments because I’ve only had very positive experiences with them. Yes, reduce dogs can come with “issues” (aggression, hard to train, health problems etc) but that’s what happens when you rescue a dog who has had a hard life. I received a packet full of what information was known on both of my dogs and didn’t have any surprises. My advice is if you’re rescuing a dog, know it’s not going to always be easy, but it’ll be worth it. I highly recommend NBSTR!

I have adopted 4 dogs from New Beginnings Shih Tzu Rescue over the past 14 years. Everyone I’ve worked with has been caring, forthcoming and supportive. Hence why I’ve continued to follow them!

Adopted out a Lhasa Apso they claimed was a Shihtzu. The dog had aggression issues they did not tell me about. When I contacted New Beginnings after adoption, they blamed me and asked, “What did you do to the dog?! There was nothing wrong with him!” Then they put my name on a list of “irresponsible dog owners” that prevents me from ever again. I did some research and found the name of the out of state shelter New Beginnings “rescued” the dog from. That shelter told me this dog was about to be euthanized for AGGRESSION, and New Beginnings took the dog!

Hi I am sorry for your experience. We always disclose all information that we know about all dogs that we adopt out! Unfortunately no Rescue can know the whole history of the dogs they adopt out. All rescues stress the importance of Training. Every dog/dog owner needs to spend time with Trainers, to enjoy the best life together.
In response to Vegagal, We know nothing about this and it is unfair to write a review without contacting us first. All of our dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm tested and are examined by a licensed vet and includes a Certificate of Health. We work will all of our adopters and give full disclosure of any medical conditions and will take back any dogs with major medical conditions within 7 days of the adoption with full refund.

New Beginning Shih Tzu Rescue, Inc. is a group of concerned individuals, families and businesses dedicated to the interim care, rehabilitation, and placement in "forever"(permanent) homes of dogs of the Shih Tzu breed that have been that have been rescued from puppy mills, high-kill shelters and other abusive situations or certain death as a stray or abandoned dog.
Self-imposed demi-gods. Know-it-alls who think they are the ultimate authority. If you adopt from them, do yourself a favor and cease all communication with this group. They are highly critical of anyone not inside their organization, and if you have issues with the dog after adoption, they will sweep their dirt under the rug and treat you like dirt. They are unwilling to acknowledge any of their shortcomings or implement any course of action to improve the adoption process and eliminate problematic issues. Quick to blame the new dog owner for any issue that arises. Medical issues of dogs have been ignored and hidden from potential adopters. Because of my most unfortunate experience with this group, I am extremely hesitant of going through any rescue group to get a canine companion.
