Terrible experience. Bought a bed loaded with bed bugs and they would not give me my money back. This thrift store is operated by Thomas Atchison - President of New Beginnings of Tampa, Inc.
Atchison uses New Beginnings to get a free labor force of drug addicted and/or homeless persons. He runs this "faith based" halfway house on Chilkoot Avenue and Atchison operates a number of scams. Atchison also uses New Beginnings to get large sums of government money from the VA and DCF. Atchison spends thousands of dollars on himself monthly with no accounting records or accountability. Complete breach of public trust.
This is a great place. Pastor Tom emphasizes the Core Values. Faith, Family and Community. This is a sweat equity plan. You only get out of it, what you put into it.

I have been part of New Beginnings of Tampa for 6 years now. When I first came to NBT I was in need of some serious help. I found that help at New Beginnings.
I am now a staff member and love returning that same love to others that I first received when I arrived.
This program works is you want it to. This program will give you all the tools you need.... it up to the client is he will use them.
Thank you very much to both Dr. Atchison and all of the New Beginnings Family!
I first accessed New Beginnings of Tampa in 2003. I was drinking and doing drugs, and during this time I became ill. One day the Director of New Beginnings came to where I was to take potential clients to the detox program at New Beginnings. I was not allowed to access the program because of my ill-health. When the Director came the second time, I crawled on my hands and knees, (that was how ill I was), and begged him to take me with him to the program. He finally relented, and I have been here at New Beginnings for over 10 years at their Transitional Housing after my initial detox program was finished. Through the detox program I regained my sobriety, and through the health care program that New Beginnings connected me with, and with loving care by the staff and volunteers of New Beginnings, I am in the process of regaining my health. I would recommend New Beginnings to anyone that need Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Substance Abuse Counseling, Hot Meals, Clothing, Hygiene Items. etc. Over the past 15 years, New Beginnings has served thousands of homeless and disadvantaged individuals, and countless lives have been positively impacted through the various services that New Beginnings provides. Please go to their website at "newbeginningsoftampa.org for more information.
I came to New Beginnings after 22 years of substance abuse addition. I was in and out of different programs for many years, from New York to Florida. I was homeless, a criminal and also had health problems. Finally in desperation, I went online, and New Beginnings was the first service provider that came up. I went to New Beginnings and they took me in without me having to pay a penny. I was given a warm bed, hot meals, clothing, and counseling. I have now been clean for over 5 years, and am now the Assistant Program Director at the Transitional Housing Center. If it was not for New Beginnings, I would probably be dead by now.
My family and I arrived in Tampa in 2013 with no place to go. Through several connections, we heard about New Beginnings of Tampa. New Beginnings took us in and placed us in one of their Transitional Housing without asking for a dime; and besides that my husband and I were given part-time jobs. We are now in the process of getting back on our feet, due to the services that new Beginnings provided to us. I would recommend New Beginnings for anyone that need temporary housing, have substance abuse problems, need a hot meal, clothing and hygiene items, etc. New Beginnings is there for the disadvantaged.
