These folks are remarkable! They have an abundance of cats at the shelter and care for each one of them as if each is their child. Strictly a no-kill shelter, they even care for cats who have life-threatening illnesses. I became acquainted with them when my sister and I rescued an injured cat several years ago. We brought "Lucky" to the shelter and they took care of everything from there. With the medical treatment provided, he lived several more years--other organizations would probably have put him down.
I have since become a weekly volunteer at the shelter, but wish I could do more. New Beginnings is now starting a low-cost clinic in Momence and is trying to raise funds for equipment. It will get done (it always does) and more animals in the area will be spayed or neutered to control the population in the most humane way possible.
