Causes: Arts & Culture, Symphony Orchestras
Mission: To be a community leader in arts education and to give aspiring young musicians the chance to study with the nbso's distinguished guest soloists and to provide low cost concerts for the surrounding community.
Programs: The new bedford symphony is a professional orchestra that performs a seven concert season with guest artists from around the world. Nbso musicians also present dozens of small ensemble performances every year throughout the south coast.
nbso educational programs served approximately 30,000 children through (1) music in the morning: children listening to classical music at the start of every school day; (2) schoolsmusic! : an interactive concert by nbso musicians in local schools; (3) young people's concerts: students attending a special nbso children's concert at the z; (4) symphony tales: an integrated music-early literacy program for beginner readers; (5) new bedford symphony youth orchestra: student musicians playing in four ensembles ranging from beginners to advanced; (6) family musical connections: music curriculum and activities for families attending concerts; (7) be our musical guest: nbso guest artists visiting local schools; (8) master classes: nbso guest artists providing special instruction to young musicians; and (9) school string program: weekly lessons and ensemble playing in south coast schools.
