NeuroBalance is a treasure for those with neuromuscular disorders and traumatic brain injuries. The Center provides long term maintenance therapy services as well as short term recovery based services. The services are provided in a purpose built facility with multiple gyms for strength training, yoga, Pilates, balance work, barre activities and boxing workouts, amongst other programs. The Center has programs for whole person including speech, occupational, massage, and physical therapy programs. The Center also has art programs, peer support groups and learning programs.

Center personnel are always upbeat, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and caring. The meet the participants where they are and work to develop individualized plans to address the specific needs of the participants. Center personnel have backgrounds in chiropractic, physical and occupational therapy, personal training, Pilates certification, yoga instruction, massage therapy and speech therapy.

The center also has a subsidized transportation program for participants who cannot drive, including a wheelchair accessible van.

Our daughter had many strokes before the age of 26. She had to move to lower elevation to stop the strokes. When she moved back home we had no idea who to turn to.....fortunately a friend of ours knew about NeuroBalance Center. It was a godsend! For almost 5 years now she has been going to the center. Without their help she most likely would not be walking and most definately would not be working full-time! Thank you for all of the continued support she has received!!!

Our 26 your old daughter had her second set of strokes and had to move from Colorado back to Illinois as the elevation was contributing to her strokes. That said, she moved home and could not work, had no insurance and didn't have anyone who would take her into therapy until we found NeuroBalance. They are a godsend!!! Not only is she getting better physically but mentally it has been a real inspiring experience. All of the doctors, therapists and staff are amazing and assist in every way possible. Can't say enough positive thoughts about Jill and the entire NeuroBalance staff. You are amazing people and we thank god for you every day.

I have had spinal stenosis for several. years. My pain doctor was not able to help me with surgery because of significant arthritis in my spinal column. The doctor recommended taking a yoga class to strengthen muscles as an alternative. I have taken yoga classes in different places and finally have landed at Neurobalance, where classes are taught by Linda. She has been especially creative and helpful. I am grateful and (as a long-time school administrator) enthusiastically recommend her as an instructor.

I have cerebral palsy, chronic pain, and other chronic conditions. The NeuroBalance Center has become a second family to me. They have been so supportive as I try to find a new confidence as my disability has changed. I started coming to the NeuroBalance Center and attending group fitness classes in the fall of 2019. I started working with Dr. Joel Story after NeuroBalance Center reopened after COVID restrictions. He has been so supportive as I go through the stress of family illness and death, while cerebral palsy has caused a variety of ebbs and flows in my function, strength, and coordination. I did try adaptive Pilates training and adaptive yoga with Linda once a week for two years. I am grateful that she was open to trying various things with me. I thank a fellow client, Karen Kaberac, for her referral to NeuroBalance Center.

I have been coming to the NeuroBalance Center since August 2019. Everyone from the staff, practitioners, and the volunteer van drivers are kind and encouraging. The practitioners are very knowledgeable about neurological conditions. They specialize in Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. All of the practitioners realize that everyone has their own goals. They know that no one with the same condition will make the same progress as another. It is excellent to come to a center that is entirely accessible to those with neurological conditions, including the center's accessible machines. It does not matter if a client is tall or short or has a history of orthopedic issues as well as their neurological condition; all of the practitioners will find ways to push you toward new challenges and goals. I would encourage anyone with a loved one with these neurological conditions to tour the NeuroBalance Center in Barrington, Illinois.

As a private care manager for older adults, I am impressed with quality and types of group and person-centered services Neurobalance offers. They fill a critical void in the healthcare system and make it affordable and accessible. The center is clean, modern, and welcoming. Administrators conduct themselves as leaders and true advocates, and trainers take that professionalism to another level when they begin working with participants. From the onset of services, my client felt like he was heard and understood. He was impressed by how knowledgeable the trainer was about his disease. Prior to his progression with Parkinson's, my client enjoyed running. Special equipment only available at Neurobalance allowed him to safely run again. The transportation they offer was the only way he could get there. He felt proud when he met the goals that his trainer set. Running gave him hope, and it was a healthy outlet for the emotional challenges of his journey. He added other services at times to complement his unique care plan. His exercise at the center quickly became as important, if not more critical, to his overall health and well-being than what his medical team provides. I would be remiss if I did not mention the Neurobalance staff. Through their efficient communication, problem-solving, enthusiasm, and friendly greetings as you come and go, participants and their caregivers cannot help but to feel a part of something very special.

Two and half years ago my husband john had an ischemic stroke impacting him both physical and mentally. The stroke caused paralysis on this left side and impacted him cognitively. I brought him home after six months and we really struggled with finding appropriate therapy. We tried both at home therapy and out-patient therapy. Neither one proved to be a positive experience. As I was researching other alternatives NeuroBalance Center was recommended. I toured the facility and still felt apprehensive, but Jenny assured me she had the perfect therapist to work with John. Two years later we are still with NeuroBalance and it feels like we have found our home. The staff is the most caring and highly trained professionals I have encountered from the reception staff to therapists to van drivers. All make you feel so welcome when you enter the building. I believe they really care about Johns wellbeing and provide treatment specifically for him. I also attend multiple classes weekly – barre, yoga and pilates that have helped me physically and mentally. If you are searching for a facility that will provide personal attention from highly qualified individuals this is the place. They truly are the best!

I was lucky enough to get to know the NeuroBalance Center (NBC) in it's earliest days, and as it has grown it has never deviated from it's initial mission - to provide services and programming to people living with chronic, progressive medical conditions that impact their mobility and independence. Today, the NBC serves hundreds of people in the greater Chicago area with an increasing variety of programming. Also critical to their mission is their "Access for All" motto, which ensures that no one is denied access to the center's programs because of inability to pay or because of inaccessibility of transportation. The NBC has been an inspiration in every stage of its evolution over the years, and it is an honor to serve there.

The clinical programs and resources for the Parkinson’s and MS population is fantastic. The Providers and NBC Staff are second to none in welcoming and accommodating all participants in need. There is also a rides program and Access for Everyone scholarship in order to assist those that may have limited funds for care.
I would highly recommend NeuroBalance Center for your loved ones struggling with physical challenge's, neuromuscular and autoimmune diseases.

I've partnered with the NeuroBalance Center over the past two years and am continually grateful for this unique institution in the Northwest Suburbs. As a physical therapist who specializes in neurologic care the NeuroBalance Center checks all the boxes for meeting my practice needs. The facility is welcoming and creates a real community environment for all participants. State of the art technology is available and I share space with exceptional clinicians with various backgrounds. I have been able to grow my private practice within the center by bringing in occupational and speech therapy as well, which has been mutually beneficial. And once our patients are ready for discharge, there are a variety of wellness options for them to utilize at the center to maintain their gains, including boxing, yoga, Pilates, one-on-one personal training and more. Neurobalance Center is not just a place my mom attends weekly therapy, but it is also a second family to our mom! The staff has huge hearts and cares about their clients. Our mom suffered a severe stroke about two years ago which left her with limited movement on her right side and mostly nonverbal. Neurobalance Center through attending PT and OT has brought back independence and hope for our mom. They have pushed our mom to great heights and challenges, which has helped gained back a lot of her strength. After her stroke doctors told us our mom may not be able to do things on her own or walk fully again. NOW, our mom is walking with just a cane and can do all essential tasks on her own with some support. We could not be more thankful for the Neurobalance Center!

I joined Neurobalance as a volunteer driver one year ago. My goal was to be able to give back to the community and make a difference. While doing this I found that I was probably getting more out of this role for myself than I'm giving and that says a lot about the center, employees, volunteers and the participants (individuals coming to the center for services). It all starts when you walk through the front door and are greeted by one or more big smiles. The therapists, trainers, doctors, administrators and volunteers care about people, have great attention to detail, are well skilled and love what they do. The Neurobalance Center offers a wide range of services while specializing in services related to neurological disorders. If you or someone you know are in need, stop by, say hello and learn more about us. I guarantee you we will have you at "hello".

I was diagnosed with Guillan Barre Syndrome 2 years ago. After visiting multiple doctors and alternative methods with little or no results I was referred to NeuroBalance Center by a family member. I had given up hope on any continued healing. After 3 months with Dr LeeAnn Steinfeldt I am still progressing. Balance, strength and full body function are still improving.
Each week I go there feels like a mental and physical reset to encourage me to keep fighting.
Dr LeeAnn is my motivator with her message of positivity and knowledge.
It is encouraging to see the exercise classes with patients that are far worse of than me in class fighting as hard as they can and that encourages and give me hope for a full recovery. The center is bright and modern and the staff is friendly and helpful.

My client is in an educated gentleman his early 70's managing stage 4 PD. A sudden decline took away his ability to walk independently, let alone run. That exercise was his lifelong release to stress and being fit. Running after his PD diagnosis became even more critical to maintain his strength. Since the physical decline and increase in PD symptoms, running and treadmills were no longer safe options. He was petrified of becoming weak and wheelchair bound, and beyond frustrated he had no way to fight it. I brought him to Neurobalance to tour. The friendly staff are knowledgeable and non-judgmental, and he saw others who were on the same journey. This, along with the pristine condition and naturally bright light and modern feel of the center, made him instantly relax and continue on the tour. As we walked, his excitement grew when he saw that he could use equipment again and workout with others. The equipment would allow him freedom not found anywhere else, and he saw his chance to fight. The staff is clearly knowledgeable about PD and advancements in care which my client found refreshing. Some of his doctors and other medical providers are uninformed. He later told me that he felt he could be a part of something important and valuable at Neurobalance. My client has studied and learned about his disease for years. I suggested he now has the right place to share all that he has learned and it may help others. Neurobalance addresses the unique physical needs of people with neurodegenerative diseases, and offers a variety of affordable options to choose from based on strength. Neurobalance has greatly improved my client's overall physical AND mental well-being. He goes to class 2x week and has private sessions 1x week where he recently passed a 2 mile run challenge on their treadmill. He likes the challenges his enthusiastic trainer Nick provides. For my client, without question Neurobalance has been good for his body, soul and mind.

Even the classes I could have driven to were during the day and I still work full-time. I had no luck finding an evening class. Then I discovered the Neurobalance Center. It has made such a difference in my life and in the way I deal with my disease. They offer Rock Steady classes in the evening and on Saturdays AND they're only 10 minutes from home! I've been going for over a year. The classes are great. My symptoms have actually improved during that time thanks to our instructor, Nick, who pushes us to do more than we think we can do. People in the classes are friendly and this is a "no judgement" zone, because we're all dealing with some type of disability. They offer so much more than Rock Steady boxing. There are a variety of fitness classes for people with all types of motion disorders. Personal training is also available. And all of this is located in a bright, beautiful, custom designed facility that is only a couple of years old.

Multiple sclerosis is never easy, but going to the Neurobalance Center is a breath of fresh air. Everyone there understands what we are going through, whether they have MS or not.

The staff is exceptional, the people that attend are exceptional, and the volunteer van drivers are exceptional.

In a world where we are very misunderstood, a world that can be very isolating, the Neurobalance Center is a safe and welcoming place.

I have been with the NeuroBalance Center for over two years. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2016, I got progressively worse. I found out about the NeuroBalance Center, and decided to try it.

We are so lucky to have access to the NeuroBalance Center; Not only does it help my health physically, I have gotten to know the special people that attend there, and it has become kind of a support group also!

Hats off to the staff; one is more understanding than the other. The same goes for the van drivers who volunteer their time. These are all special people who have enriched my life and I know other people’s lives as well.

Multiple sclerosis can be very misunderstood, and very isolating. The people at the NeuroBalance Center is a refuge for me and for so many others. I cannot say enough great things about it!

I have Multiple Sclerosis and I have been going to the NeuroBalance Center for several months now. I love all the classes and services they offer to those of us not only with MS, but with other neurological conditions, like Parkinson's Disease, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Strokes too. And I really like the way they tailor their classes to fit your particular needs and take into considerations your limitations; like the seated boxing class and the FitMS class.

I also appreciate how the staff members go out of their way to make each and every person feel welcome. Whether if be by helping them to select which services or classes may fit their needs, inviting them to join in on a cooking demonstration or sampling one of the Smoothie of the Month, or just having jovial conversation with a member or caregiver.

The NeuroBalance Center is an AMAZING facility and I could only wish that more people could discover it and find out how beneficial it can be to their own health or the health of their loved ones.

I have been going to the NeuroBalance Center since July 2018 and it is the BEST decision that I ever made. From the moment you walk through the doors your mood can't help but improve -- the staff members are all so friendly and knowledgeable, the classes are fun, and using equipment that has been modified to address physical limitations is a Godsend.

It is so nice to have a place to go where you can find individuals who understand your specific disability and the limitations that come with it. Everyone at NBC does such a great job helping people adjust to living their "new normal". And trust me, THAT is NOT an easy thing to do.

You can tell that Joy and her associates put a lot of thought and care into designing the NBC facility. They remembered all the little things that others might tend to forget -- like building a relaxing outdoor patio with lovely tables and chairs, growing an elevated vegetable garden which allows patrons to take home fresh herbs and vegetables, and having a reception and waiting area with couches, tables and paintings that make you feel at home. It is all those little things that help to make one forget all the challenges that they may face in everyday life.

I have never been to a facility like the NeuroBalance Center before and I am so happy that I get to experience it each and every week.

NBC is a big part of my life, not only offering me power-plate twice weekly under Margaret's direction; but more recently amazing "circuit training" with Gwen & Nick. I really know my balance and walking is improving!
I have been with Joy since 2011 including the amazing development and funding (thanks particularly to Vince Foglia).
All my FitMS friends understand the battle with MS, but NBC gives us all a great support community!
Thanks.

I have been receiving pt for 5 years after a three major cervical surgeries. I made signicant improvements considering I began pt paralyzed from the waist down. I can now walk and lead a pretty normal life. However I seemed to have hit a platue about three years ago. Last year a began pilates training while in Arizona for the winter and enjoyed the benefits. Again, a platue. Last summer I connected with NBC and found a new and rewarding improvement in in my physical abilities. I am now once again leaving to spend the winter in Arizona and don't know how I'll continue to improve without the great resources of NBC. This past summer my walking and stair climbing has improved so much I hate to leave because I know I won't be able to duplicate my pt/Pilates/personal training activities in sunny Arizona. I guess you can't have it all. I am very grateful to NBC's staff that has given me more improvement than any other pt regime I have ever gotten in the last few years. I praise your organization every chance I get. Thanks again for all you've done for me. See you next May.

I’ve been going to NBC since 2016. Here are 12 reasons on why:

(1) NBC is strategically located 15 minutes from my home.
(2) There is ample parking. The first row of the parking lot is for handicap with no step up.
(3) The facility is well thought out and design. For example, the closet when I walk in on the left has no door. There are six accessible bathrooms and a library.
(4) I’m greeted by my name as oppose to do you have an appointment. Or worst, who are you?
(5) The equipment is state of the art. NuStep (exercise bike) is designed by someone who has MS. As of this writing, there is new equipment coming in.
(6) The culture is dynamic with art class, cooking class, rock steady boxing, body rolling, yoga, etc.
(7) The staff is genuine, unique, and friendly. Me and Ali whisper and giggle like we are grade school kids.
(8) The MS and the Parkinson Disease class are affordable at a low price of $8 per class. There is no contract to sign or commitment to take a certain number of classes.
(9) The participants in the Parkinson Disease class are supportive. After my first PD class, two participants whom I just met encourage me to come again.
(10) Margaret and Joy introduced me to TripleFlex (hip flexors and foot drop) to help me with my walking. I wear it 90 % of the time.
(11) The one-hour Pilate class with Margaret is dedicated to me and only me instead of double booking or triple booking like other profit center. NBC is non-profit.
(12) The one-hour physical therapy with Gwen has the most significant impact. Gwen knows every bone and muscle in my body including muscles I didn’t know I have. She moves heaven and earth and pushes me to my limit. She’s also working with Margaret on a comprehensive plan for me. As an added bonus, I take a four-hour nap after each physical therapy session.

Thank you Joy and the staff at NBC for turning a vision into reality. You’ve made a difference in my life.

The Neurobalance Center offers so much, and I take advantage of as much as I can. Starting with Dr. Steinfeldt on helping me better manage my symptoms and slowing the progression of my disease. Her dedication to helping her patients, and making the therapy work for me is invaluable, you can't do better. I work out every week with Margaret and Nick, they are both so knowledgeable and passionate about their strategies to help us with flexibility, strength and stamina. Lura is an amazing massage therapist with an abundance of knowledge to help loosen those knots and stiff muscles. The office team is always welcoming, and always wants to know what they can do to help. While we work hard, the ability to socialize with the other participants, building our camaraderie and friendships, is very special because we all know what we are battling. We can talk about the latest research one minute, kids and grandkids the next, or strategies for managing our symptoms. Joy has built a culture that benefits all who walk through the door. I'm truly grateful to be able to receive such great care.

My father who is ninety-one years old was diagnosed with Parkinson's in his eighties and had to give up the art classes at the community college that he loved. He had friends in his classes, and going to the college during the week gave him a purpose and a community which were sorely missed. A few years ago we were very fortunate that Dad's neurologist who was familiar with the NeuroBalance Center told us about it at an appointment. We left the doctor's office and went directly to the Center to get him enrolled in a PD exercise class. Margaret is the most amazing instructor and Dad absolutely loves her. She is so warm and nurturing, and she gives him a great workout three days a week. He also sees Margaret twice a week for personal PowerPlate training sessions which has been really beneficial for Dad. When the Center added Rock Steady Boxing classes to the curriculum Dad enrolled in a class and the instructor, Nick, has worked with Dad to increase his strength and balance. Before we found out about the Center I had talked my father into joining the local YMCA to take an exercise class a few times a week. He truly hated the experience, and the instructor didn't take an interest in any of the senior citizens in the class. She failed utterly to motivate my father to continue exercising or to try any of the other offerings at the gym. After a couple of months he refused to go back; now he's excited to go to class to see the instructors and his friends.

I can’t praise Margaret, Nick and everyone at the Center highly enough. There aren't enough superlatives to express my gratitude and absolute appreciation for everything that the Center does for my father on a daily basis. His improved physical and mental condition are due to the hard work and dedication of every single person at the Center, They foster a sense of family, and Dad now has a large group of friends who make him fee valued. He had become very solitary when he had to give up his art classes because of a hand tremor, and no longer had a daily destination. He goes to the Center four days a week, and really hates to miss a class, which is such a wonderful change. Ali and the other staff members are constantly planning special events like the picnic they organize every summer and frequent presentations.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Joy for starting the Center and maintaining such high standards. All the staff members and volunteers are all wonderful; they always greet everyone warmly and by name. The new building is awesome and they continually make improvements both indoors and out. The vegetable planters and butterfly garden around the patio are a great addition.

The NeuroBalance Center has really given my father a new lease on life. He is in great physical shape; no one can believe that he is ninety-one because he is so active. The classes have greatly improved his stamina, balance, flexibility, strength, coordination, and mental outlook. I credit everyone at the Center for improving my father's quality of life and helping to stave off the debilitating effects of aging and Parkinson's. They work hard to keep him involved and active, and not isolated at home watching television. I see the service and benefit they provide to everyone who has had the good fortunate to be involved with the Center. I give thanks for the Center and everyone who works there on a regular basis; I know my father would not be where he is in life if it weren’t for all they do.
