When I graduated college with a degree in Special Education I knew I didn't know how to teach students to read. I hoped it would be revealed to me as I used the district curriculum. But as fate would have it, the curriculum failed to provide what the students really needed to become successful readers. A colleague suggested I attend the Basic Learning Skills program offered by Neuhaus. This training not only changed my life as a teacher but how I taught reading to children and adults alike. This organization managed to do what no other training had ever done before, it explained why English works the way it does. Once you understand the system of the language, then you can begin to master it. Every individual I have ever used this method with has learned to read, write and spell. I can't thank Neuhaus enough for all of the advancements it has made in the life of people with learning difficulties. People who once felt stupid for not being able to do what came as such ease to others, now feel hopeful that they too can achieve.

I learned how to teach my students to read, write, and spell. The Neuhaus stays on the cutting edge of research for children with reading problems. The seminars at the Neuhaus give you the materials you need for instruction and an opportunity to practice teaching before you head back to your own classroom. Happy students and happy parents are the proof that the Neuhaus curriculum works!

I attended NEC trng over 25 years ago. The trng today is just as effective for educators as it was then. Why? Because NEC remains a national leader in proving evidence-based research to its clientele. NEC is 'where it started' for me, guiding me into teaching students with reading disabilities and dyslexia with as much support as I needed or wanted. Due to NEC's openness to sharing its resources and expertise, I am the teacher of teachers I am today. I tell educators that my base trng at NEC is more valuable than my Ph.D. In language and literacy. Long live NEC! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Getting to serve on the Neuhaus Education Center Board has been an extraordinary experience for me. I had been familiar with its work but getting to see firsthand the amazing progress children and adults can make using the Neuhaus methods has been such a treat. I have had family members who have benefited from this system of learning, and it has been invaluable to all of us. As this Neuhaus system spreads, more and more people are able to realize its value.

Many teachers are woefully unprepared to teach a struggling learner. The courses at Neuhaus provide the knowledge and hands-on activities for teachers to use with students. The children I work with have learned so much more quickly using these activities.

I became involved with Neuhaus Education Center after 35 years in public education. When I made the change from public education to a private university, I was placed in charge of services for dyslexic children and the training of certified teachers in strategies effective with dyslexic students. In my search to find an appropriate, quality program, I found Neuhaus. As a dyslexic individual myself, I was excited to find an organized system of instruction that was comprehensive: including mastery of reading, spelling, oral language, and writing composition. As a CALT, I appreciate the support from staff and faculty at Neuhaus. I appreciate the effort the leadership at Neuhaus are continually researching and updating the training program and materials to make improvements in the already efficient and effective instructional guides.

I have been a fan and supporter of The Neuhaus Education Center for since the 80's, but five years ago I became a "client". My granddaughter was diagnosed with dysgraphia/dyslexia. Reading and writing at the first and second grade level was very duifficult for her and she was slowly falling behind. After two years of private tutoring with a Neuhaus professional, she is a different child. Reading is her fvorite subject, and her creative writing is fabulous!

Neuhaus Education Center is a very professional, knowledgeable and supportive entity. In the relationship and process of becoming an ALT, CALT, then QI in the wonderful program of Basic Language Skills, and on to working toward becoming an accredited training institute, Neuhaus Education Center has been exemplary in their assistance and guidance. They listen to questions and concerns and are very pleasant and "right on target" in their responses and suggestions. It is a joy and privilege to work with Neuhaus Education Center. I first connected with Neuhaus in the mid 90’s, traveling to Houston from Austin, to attend courses and workshops, with the desire to more effectively teach my students literacy skills. Now years later, I teach at Rawson Saunders School, a school specifically for students with dyslexia, and co-direct the Rawson Saunders Institute. What a thrill to see the difference that this program makes in children’s lives as they meet success in learning to read and write! Neuhaus leaders and staff have continued to be supportive mentors as we developed our training center using the program developed at Neuhaus. The work of this compassionate, professional, extremely expert team is truly outstanding! Lynn Hoover

Neuhaus Education Center changed our son's life and thus our whole family. They guided us to professionals in Houston who could help us and provided information to us in the form of their lending library, national speakers, one on one guidance, and workshops. Most of this was at no cost or very low cost. The hope and knowledge freely given helped our 7 year old son who was really struggling in reading, writing, and spelling to be successful. They continued to give us information even in his college years. Our son is now a PhD candidate in engineering at UT Austin. Our family can never thank Neuhaus enough for their help, freely given all those years.

After ten years as a Special Education teacher in public schools, I took the first training offered by Neuhaus Education Center and could see immediately the need to implement this explicit and systematic curriculum to students struggling with reading. By using the strategies and procedures I learned from the Neuhaus instructors I was able to lead even the most discouraged and frustrated students to a higher level of success. As I took advantage of advanced training, I acquired additional skills in all areas of language arts enabling me to improve the comprehension, oral language and written expression of my students. Following my retirement as a teacher, I continue to share the information I acquired at Neuhaus with teachers in other communities. To witness newly inspired teachers using improved effective skills in the classroom remains, for me, the most rewarding of all professional experiences.

Houston, Texas is so lucky to have the Neuhaus Education Center in our city.. So many of our citizens have had the luxury of access to the trained educators to enable people of all ages to learn how to overcome their learning differences. Just 6 months ago one of our grandsons who is 8 was diagnosed with Dyslexia, and we are so fortunate that he will benefit from the Neuhaus form of teaching how to read. I began traveling to Neuhaus from San Antonio back in 2005. Our district made a commitment to train all of its dyslexia teachers in Basic Language Skills. A group of us went through Foundations, then Book 1 training, after that Book 2. One of my partners and I decided that we wanted to "go all the way," so we wrote a grant to fund our DSSP coursework and CALT exam, which we took and passed in 2008. What made Neuhaus different to me was the teaching and support staff, Ginger Holland, Mary Lou Slania, Elisa Barnes, and Denise Lewis to name a few. The courses were so intensive and challenging, but the staff encouraged and supported us, always treating us as professionals, but recognizing and meeting our individual needs. The staff is dedicated to professional development in the field of dyslexia. They were role models to me for my own teaching, because if we were committed to learning, they made sure we were successful. Elisa used to make us say when the coursework got challenging, "I refuse to be confused," and I tell me students to say that when they are having trouble learning. I loved going up and seeing them. We had so much fun, and I have the best memories. I have since earned my state license and continue keeping up certification also. I am very proud of this training, maybe more so than I am of my Masters Degree coursework. Neuhaus developed and changed me as a professional. I thank God for the three years I spent at the Center!

After taking basic training at Neuhaus I worked with students who would sometimes cry when it was reading time because they were so frustrated. The techniques I learned in the training let these young people evolve into confident readers and happy students. I finished the full training and was certified by the state and continued teaching for 20 years, always with successful result for students who had a gap between how smart they were and how well they did in school. The training itself is enjoyable but the appreciation of the students is the reward for the teacher.

I think that Neuhaus is one of the best educational centers available to teachers anywhere. I have been to more than a dozen different trainings at the center and I must say that the knowledge and materials I've obtained are priceless. I really love that I am treated like a professional whenever I attend a training and that the products are so useful on all levels [high school-elementary]. As an educator it is very evident that learning disabilities do not stop existing simply because students become older; even more so, the ability to continue to meet the needs of these students becomes more difficult. Nevertheless, with the many resources and strategies I've learned at Neuhaus I am able to not only reach all of my students, but I am able to add value to their yearly educational growth as well as their lifelong advancements. What a wonderful organization to have in my corner! -Current Houston Independent School District Educator

My first experience with Neuhaus was in 1999 when I went to a parent information class held at The Center. I was experiencing frustration in my son's educational development and someone recommended that I speak with the Parent Resource Center. Having no idea what lay ahead of me, I was guided by the most helpful people who navigated me through the school ARD process. Not only was I able to get my child tested and identified as dyslexic, but I began a journey that changed my life. As there were no CALTs in my area of Houston at the time I was faced with a decision; drive into Houston every day for him to receive therapy, or for me to return to the classroom and get the skills needed to help him myself. I chose the second. My plan was just to help my son, but I knew two days into The Basic Language Skills Program that my life was changed forever. I could see how their program could help so many children. I decided to enroll in the Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program and become a CALT. It was the best thing I ever did. Here I am in 2012, President of The Houston Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, I meet people from all over the country who wish they had a program like Neuhaus in their backyard. Not just because they are the gold standard for teaching children with dyslexia, but because of the personal service they give everyone that enters their door. You just have to look at their staff to realize that they are committed to what they do. I know I am just one of many people who are forever changed by the programs and staff at Neuhaus. I will always be forever grateful.

I became acquainted with the Neuhaus Education Center some 30 years ago when Mrs. Chloe Carter came to teach for us. Mrs. Carter had been trained in Aphabetic Phonics and taught for us as a private tutor with children who had dyslexia. She was very successful and soon our elementary teachers were all being trained at the Neuhaus Center and began teaching Alphabetic Phonics to our children in the regular classroom situation. We found that all children benefited from the curriculum and to this day are still using some of the precepts of the program. Several Neuhaus-trained therapists have worked individually with our students on a daily basis during the regular school day. Mrs. Georgia Mercer currently works as a therapist on our secondary campus helping children who have difficulty with spelling, English, reading, and handwriting. Mrs. Mercer has been the support and encouragement many our of students have depended upon through their high school years. Not only is the program educationally sound but it is presented by such encouraging therapists that students' lives are enriched and the course of their futures is changed. Some of our students have been privileged to be scholarship recipients and we are so very grateful for the opportunities that scholarships have provided. I am sold on the Neuhaus Center and am so appreciative of all of the good work accomplished for students. I must mention Ms. Kerri Glover. Mrs. Glover through her training at the Neuhaus Center developed the ELVS (Enrichment in Language, Vocabulary and Spelling) curriculum which was a requirement for all of our 9th grade students. The students were grouped according to language needs and taught the most wonderful curriculum. Mrs. Glover then taught many of them Latin I and II because of the foundation they developed in the ELVS class. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the positive influences that have come to Northland Christian School through the work you are doing through the Neuhaus Center. May God continue to bless your efforts. DeAnna Graves

As an educator, the Neuhaus Reading Training has been invaluable. I applaud HISD for embracing theis program and for including it in the Reading Initiative. It is wonderful to have a reading program that is consistent across the district which can be utilized by general educators and special educators. Not only are the children able to transition from one site to another with more consistency in istruction, but the receiving teacher is able to continue systematic, progrssive instruction in Reading. The program is prescriptive and research based which makes it even more embraceable. The staff at Neuhaus are professional. andpassionate and have a wealth of experience. Neuhaus saved my child's life. Sounds dramatic doesn't it? It is as dramatic as the positive affect Neuhaus had on our lives. My daughter was failing school and was on track to drop out of school and lead a difficult life. Neuhaus helped us find a therapist to diagnose our daughter's dyslexia, and gave me the opportunity to learn what dyslexia is and how to help my child beyond academics. My daughter is now a strong academic performer. Every time she flashes me a smile of triumph after her successes, I see the dear faces of those who helped us. I had the opportunity to complete the Basic Language Skills class during the 2011-2012 school year and it really had a significant impact on my students' performance in Reading. The students really enjoy the various strategies utilized by the Neuhaus Program. I am a Resource teacher and the majority of my students have been identified as having Dyslexia, which makes it challenging for them to read. However, the Neuhaus Program has allowed the students' to make significant gains in their reading skills. The entire staff at the Neuhaus Education Center are very dedicated and committed to the participants learning how to implement the program the correctly. I can't thank the people of Neuhaus enough! Our school is high in both the English Language Learner group, as well as, Free and Reduced Meal recipients. Our students have many reading challenges and Neuhaus offers so much to support their learning. I often refer to Neuhaus as the "why" of reading. "Why does that vowel make that sound?" As the various syllable types explain this I am always so impressed with the way my students begin to digest this rich information. We also use the Neuhaus spelling and grammar and each has provided a solid foundation for my first graders to build upon.

I am almost 65 years old and have been a staunch believer in the Neuhaus programs since 1986. I had been a teacher for 17 years at the time of my first workshop given by professionals from the Center. I was so intrigued by the information I heard that I began to pursue over a ten year period the training to become a Dyslexia Specialist. I raised 3 children during this time. Now 2 of those children are teachers. I continue as a private tutor now and reap the benefits of using all the tools provided by Neuhaus Education Center. I also reap the benefits of hearing testimonials from the grown students I once taught. These students are what make me continue my plight in educating not only the dyslexic student but the teachers and parents of these children. When utilizing the curriculums in the manner they were designed to use I have had nothing but success. I encourage anyone reading this to learn more about the curriculums provided by Neuhaus. Their staff of experts not only changed and enhanced my life as a teacher, but as a mother as well. The quality time I spend with each of my dyslexic students is time I hope will encourage them not only to read, spell and write better but to possibly help one more person in their plight to become a better student.

Neuhaus has been a great support to me over the years. When my son was in school I would always call them when times were tough. Their advice always helped to dry my tears. The materials they produce are very helpful and practical and I look to them as leaders in the field of literacy

Neuhaus is a wonderful place to learn the art of teaching children or adults to read. They are so patient and they genuinely care that the students learn. I teach Special Education and can only hope that I have half the patience they have. The program is long but it is built one step after the other and does not leave out any steps along the way. The staff are just fantastic and the program is top notch.

I traveled to Neuhaus for a week of intensive course work from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was so impressed by how knowledgeable and prepared my instructors were and how seemlessly they taught. I have since taken on-line courses and continue to use their website for all the valuable information it contains.

I am a teacher that has received training at Neuhuas. The skills that I have developed as a direct result is invaluatble. I have seen tremendous growth and confidence as a result of the systematic, multi-sensory, prescripive instruction my students are now receiving.

Neuhaus is the most wonderful place. The courses offered through them are enriching for teachers and parents. As a language arts teacher, I attended my first class, multisensory grammar, at Neuhaus and was hooked. I completed my dyslexia training through them and am now a licensed dyslexia therapist. All of the children I have taught in the last fifteen years have benefitted from this training. All teachers should experience the level of caring, concern, support, and education that can be found at Neuhaus. I thank them for being there when there was no place else to go for the help I needed.

For several years we have had our teachers trained in the Neuhaus language enrichment program. It has made a huge success in helping our teachers have better instructional routines and our students read better.

Neuhaus Has been very informative and helpful as far as education children. I could not think of a better program to suggest. Neuhaus goes far to ensure that more than fundamentals are understood, but also the foundation of reading gets relayed to children.

Neuhaus has filled a very important role in the life of my own child and in the lives of many of my students. We have used Neuhaus as a source of current information and question answering on Dyslexia for our own daughter who is now a student in college, receiving outstanding grades. My own students in my classroom have benefitted from my many hours of training to improve reading and spelling for students. I am forever grateful!

As a Reading Specialist, working with students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, I understand how important research is today's teachers. Teachers must demonstrate the use of best practices in the classroom and should administer educational strategies in their classrooms specific for the students they serve. Neuhaus has provided the research, materials, and strategies to effectively teach students with reading difficulties how to read. Their Basic Language Skills will move a non-reader into an active reader within one year. Students continue to advance toward grade level proficiency while closing the gap with ongoing continued practice and refinement of the basic skills. These skills move students from phonetic readers to fluent readers.

I am a special education teacher that works with struggling 3rd and 4th grade readers that are at least 2 years behind. My students have bennifited greatly from the workshopes offered at Neuhaus. I have incorporated the stratigies I have learned into my daily instruction and have seen accelerated reading growth as a direct result. Their multisensory "direct teach" approach to learning is exactly what my students need.

Several years ago, my son started struggling in reading. Thankfully, the school he attended has a reading specialist who was a Certified Academic Language Therapist who had been trained by Neuhaus. He saw her everyday from kindergarten until fourth grade when we changed school. There is no way he would be reading without her help and her training from Neuhaus! Every language arts teacher needs to be trained at Neuhaus Education Center

A few years ago I was offered the position of being the reading teacher for students with special needs especailly, difficulties in the areas of reading and comprehension. I struggled like any other new teacher. I tried to do books way beyond their reading levels or comprehension and I worked too hard with very little results. I had heard about the Neuhaus training but wondered about how to get involved. At about this time I was given an opportunity by my principal to get trained at Neuhaus. That summer before I went back to teaching reading with no concept I got trained at Neuhaus. I was equipped with information that I needed to get them started, but my thirst for knowledge kept me going back for more. Today I am considerd a reading specialist at my school, and I am the dyslexia contact person. I am enrolled to complete my dyslexia practioner's course and I am scheduled to complete it this year. My students have made tremendous progress due to my training. I can finally teach students how to read, write and spell using multi sensory techniques.

The Neuhaus Education Center has provided me with dyslexia education for teachers. Their training is the best I've received in my 26 + years of teaching. One of the first courses I took was Basic Learning Skills. I remember actually feeling a little angry that I hadn't been taught the research and methods behind scientific reading instruction before now and wondering why all of this wasn't being taught in every teacher's college in the state. The instructors are experienced and knowledgeable and willing to help solve education dilemmas that pop up, long after your coursework ends. I constantly recommend the center to others. This is a nonprofit that will continue to impact children's lives through their teachers for years to come.

The courses offered through Neuhaus are some of the most valuable professional development opportunities available. My teachers are much more effective after attending Neuhaus trainings and I see the evidence of this in student achievement.

I will never forget the worry and tears that were shed early on in my son's school career. Sometimes we would both cry after a night of homework, and he was only in the first grade. I kept asking the teachers,"Why can't my son read?" I never received an answer I was satisfied with. They told me not to worry, boys develop later and that he would be fine. He was finally diagnosed in third grade, and started seeing the school Reading Specialist. She saw him for 30 minutes twice a week. I could see slight improvements in his reading, but not significant enough gains. At this point I knew, I had to be is advocate and learn everything I could about dyslexia, and I did! I attended a Neuhaus Parent Night, that evening changed our lives forever. I enrolled in Basic Language Skills and decided I wanted to become a Dyslexia Specialist. I worked as an accountant before I became a stay-at-home mom, and I knew when the time came to re-enter the work force, I could no longer crunch numbers during the day. I had a new calling, to become a Dyslexia Specialist, and help children learn how to read. Today, I am a Reading Specialist at a wonderful private school and love my students and my job. My son changed my life, he is a true blessing, we no longer look at dyslexia as a negative in his life. We see it as a positive and he has many gifts to give to the world. I thank him and Neuhaus for giving him the gift of reading and for giving me a new passion in life the gives meaning to my everyday.
