Nonprofit Overview

Mission: In 1938 Nestor Hebert started a Christmas Co-op to help the needy. In the 1970's Nestor saw needs had shifted. Many organizations were providing toys and food - things soon gone. He shifted the giving of the Co-op to providing new shoes to needy children - a lasting gift that raised a child's spirit and sense of self. Nestor became ill and the Kiwanis Club of Rockledge now continues his efforts. Over 2500 children throughout Brevard County have new shoes this year through our efforts. 100% of all contributions are used to buy new shoes for children under 12 years old. Rockledge, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach Viera, Titusville, Merritt Island Cape Canaveral "An annual average of 2,500 to pairs of shoes have been placed on preschool, elementary and middle school children in Central Brevard, as recommended by their teachers," he said. "The funds available are always the deciding factor on how many shoes can be given." 11/23/00 Florida Today Awarded as Best Service Project for a Club with less than 45 members in 1993 by Kiwanis International. And Best service project in 1997 by Florida Kiwanis. We continue today with this year's distributions on beginning in early October, and every Monday until Christmas. 25-30 children at 3-4 schools each day and special efforts at HEAD START centers will distribute 200 to 300 pairs each day.
