Causes: Financial Institutions
Mission: The mission of NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania is financial empowerment that promotes homeownership and stable communities. This goal is realized by helping individuals and families to strengthen their financial security through education programs, counseling, and affordable financing.
Programs: Credit counseling program - this program is provided to potential homebuyers in order to resolve credit problems, improve credit scores and help ensure long-term success of home ownership. 788 clients participated in the credit counseling program with 141 participants successfully purchasing homes during fiscal year ended september 30, 2014. In addition, 184 clients participated in the foreclosure counseling program which helps those in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure.
community education program - the organization accomplishes these programs' mission via the operation of the following educational activities: homeownership educationtraining, marketing and outreach to community members, post-purchase counseling and financial literacy for adults and children. 295 individuals attended homebuyer education classes, 398 students attended youth financial literacy and 581 individuals completed financial literacy training.
loan program - residential loans were made available at reasonable interest rates for low-to-moderate income borrowers for down payment/closing cost assistance and home improvements. In addition, loans were available for first time mortgages, rehabilitation, and refinance. The organization processed 0 loan applications and closed 5 loans during fiscal year ended september 30, 2014. (5 paid off and 0 written off as bad debts). There were 0 new loans this year as lending capital is no longer available.
