I got to know about the work of Neighborlink Indy (NLI) when I was contacted about getting students at the university where I worked involved as volunteers. That shortly led to me volunteering my time as well. NLI helps low income seniors and those with disabilities safely age in place with dignity in the homes they own. NLI provides home repairs and other upkeep (gutter cleaning, painting, etc.) free of charge, utilizing a network of volunteers and skilled labor (either pro bono or paid for through resources raised by the organization). The organization takes time to get to know the clients served and can often make referrals to address other difficulties they may be experiencing. The process of volunteering for NLI is a joyful one. The care and concern of the staff is evident, as is the gratitude of those who are helped through the services provided. By keeping long-time residents safely in their homes, not only is the individual and his or her family lifted up, the neighborhood and community-at-large are also strengthened.
They've invested in capable and skilled staff that really allow the efforts of volunteers to be multiplied. The work they do is so necessary and makes a huge impact.
Neighborlink Indianapolis (NLI) is an empowering organization that not only does good for the people they assist, but the offer's its volunteers a wonderful and valuable experience. I should know! I started volunteering with NLI during my first year of medical school in 2020, the Saturday morning projects saved me from the grind of school and allowed me to feel connected to my community during a year that left me isolated (for better and for worse). NLI's goal to allow seniors and those with disabilities to stay put and live in the same house they have for many years is one that works well with my medical school education. People's health is better when they experience less stress and moving is certainly a strong source of unneeded stress, but more overstaying in place improves a number of social determinants of health! When moving to a new location, the person needs to learn their new location. They need to figure out where to get groceries, how they can get to the doctor, and how they may find the social support they would have been accustom to in their previous residence. Because of all these reasons and many more NLI's mission is exceedingly necessary and ultimately, powerful.
Absolutely love volunteering for this company! It's a pleasure to know that we are part of something bigger, while providing a value to someone and their homes. You get to meet knew people and understand the community better that we get to serve everyday. Thank you for all that you do! I definitely stand behind this company.
I have been a volunteer for NeighborLink for several years now. I do this because every time I see that we have made a tangible difference for someone. We help people who really need help and have few option. We keep people in their home. When people feel they can stay in their home, they also feel they can hold on to their dignity.
NeighborLink is also an easy one to participate with. No skills are required. I see new volunteers all the time. I see young people making the effort to volunteer on their own, or as part of an organization. These volunteers also gain by learning skills and general building trades from the regular, experienced volunteers.
If someone wants to volunteer their time to a good cause, see immediate results from their efforts, and even increase their own skill sets, NeighborLink is the answer.
I was part of the committee that nominated Neighborlink to receive Impact 100's Changemaker grant. This organization is one of the most innovative and impactful nonprofits that we had come across in recent years. They are serving a vulnerable population that is in desperate need of the valuable services they offer. We are thrilled to see them expand and therefore be able to serve even more of the community.
MDwise really enjoyed volunteering with Neighborlink. The volunteer opportunity Neighborlink provided for MDwise was really great! Being able to give back to the community by helping a senior was really rewarding for our group.
NeighborLink is truly dedicated to the community. To see the hard work - most of it physical and manual labor - that the organization does to give back to others in the surrounding Indianapolis area is remarkable. The employees and volunteers care about others and it shows each time they help someone with upgrades and improvements to a home. Would absolutely volunteer with them again.
To say I appreciate Neighborlink's impact in the communities they serve is an understatement. Their ability to help someone in need and give needed facelifts to parts of Indianapolis communities is top class. Thanks to this amazing organization, I've found purpose in helping locals. Every hour on a ladder, trash bag filled, paint brush stroke, and sanding swipe is worth it!
Neighborlink Indy is one of the best organizations I've ever worked with! The impact of their staff and volunteers on the Indianapolis community is seen far and wide. I'm excited to be the newest Board Member for this organization.
With my role in corporate marketing, I have coordinated volunteer projects for our 200+ employees with many local nonprofits. Neighborlink has always been easy to work with and provided an incredible experience to the volunteers. Our employees enjoy supporting this cause.
Five stars to Neighborlink for their thoughtful approach to impactful community service!
Great experience giving back to the community. NeighborLink provides and facilitates much needed services to those in need. Highly recommend!!
NeighborLink Indy is by far one of my favorite organizations to volunteer with. The projects are well-organized to make the most of the volunteers' time and it allows us to really make a difference! I definitely recommend this org to anyone looking to "get their hands dirty", meet some wonderful people, and make a direct impact on the local community. I've worked with them a few times now, and I can't stay away!
Volunteering with NeighborLink has always been service made easy. I've been on quite a few sites and without fail NL has always ensured there are sufficient people, planning, and tools to get the job done! It really is as simple as showing up. Can't wait to do it again!
I've have now had a couple of opportunities to work with Neighborlink on volunteer activities. In my experience, Neighborlink has gone above and beyond in so many aspects. They have given me the opportunity to give back in ways that I would not have had otherwise. My most recent opportunity was painting. I am not a professional painter by any means. But, as we began to paint a home and seeing eyes light up was priceless. No amount of money is worth more than to see a smile on another individuals face. Thank you Neighborlink for ALL that you do for the community. Your time and effort does not go unnoticed.
NLI was so welcoming to the small but mighty Metro Ministries group! They provided a great service opportunity for us and gave us all the tools we needed to do the job. Thank you for allowing us to serve!
I have worked with NeighborLink for a few years and it has been wonderful! Everyone is accommodating, helpful, and friendly. I recommend working with them if you are looking for a flexible, fun, and involved community experience.
Working with Neighborlink Indy has been fantastic! The projects are well organized and are always enjoyable! It is always enjoyable to help a neighbor!
It was so fun and rewarding to volunteer with NeighborLink Indy. During these unprecedented times, it felt great to get out and have a safe way to engage and give back to the community.
Phenomenal organization. I showed up for a gutter replacement project. I didn't bring any tools or knowledge of how to do anything, but Tom, Dave, Todd, and Adam were extremely welcoming. They gave me whatever tools I needed and taught me how to do what needed to be done, and they were encouraging and supportive the whole time. And we successfully replaced the gutters for someone who had received a citation but didn't have the means to replace his own gutters. Definitely looking forward to my next NeighnorLink project!
NeighborLink goes above and beyond to serve many of the most underserved communities in Indianapolis. I had the opportunity to clean out a basement after it had flooded due to an incorrectly installed water heater and toilet issue. The homeowner was so grateful that we were able to step in and help her in a situation that felt hopeless!
I regularly volunteer with NeighborLink to help paint houses for seniors and think this is a fantastic cause and organization. While there are many non-profits I could spend my time with, I continue to come back to NeighborLink because I feel like I can make a direct impact with the work I do.
Whether you are an individual looking for a way to get involved in their community or an organization looking to partner with a non-profit for service projects, I could not recommend NeighborLink more!
My first project with NeighborLink was helping clean out an elderly woman's home. It was mind-blowing to me seeing the conditions she lived in and primarily because she didn't have the mobility to do something so simple as straighten. Over the years the problem just kept compiling on top of itself until she felt like she was drowning in her own stuff. I loved getting to know the homeowner and helping make her space safe and usable again.
NeighborLink Indianapolis is a great nonprofit. It is run by a group of volunteers helping low income seniors with home repairs needed in order to remain in their home. They maximize the use of donations by using volunteer groups for yard clean up, painting etc. Paid professionals are used as needed for more difficult jobs. By using volunteers as much as possible, overhead is low & more funding goes toward the program mission.
I manage several emergency repair programs and receive many referrals from Neighborlink. They provide great services to their community and are a very nice nonprofit to collaborate with to assist the most needy.
Neighborlink Indianapolis is a wonderful organization! They are true to their mission and always willing to go the extra mile to help a client in need.
NeighborLink does an excellent job of serving the low-income elderly and disabled members of the Marion County community. I have observed NeighborLink's work and at times worked closely with them on behalf of clients for almost 2 years, and they are reliable, professional, responsive, and easy to work with. They find a way to do things for the people who need help the most and are caring, compassionate and loving in their approach to their service work. I cannot recommend them highly enough!
Neighborhlink has provided countless individuals with assistance. They are a wonderful asset to the community and without them many people would go without needed repairs to there homes both on the interior and exterior. They have helped individuals paint there home, repaired damaged siding, installed gutters and downspouts, remove dilapidated garages and so many other repairs to the exterior of homes. They have also helped to get furnaces and water heaters repaired or replaced, repaired floors, fixed toilets and help to get multiple other repairs made on the interior of homes. They have given assistance to individuals that need to clean up the inside of there home to make it a safer place to live and have helped to get yards cleaned up and have had trash removed from both the interior and exterior of homes. Without Neighborlink's assistance multiple people would continue to go without having their basic needs met. They have been able to provide assistance in so many ways and have had a huge impact on the lives of those they are able to help.
NeighborLink offers much needed assistance to vulnerable populations with home repairs. There is a definite lack of resources in this area of assistance. NeighborLink is truly an asset to the population that they serve AND at no cost to the client either.
This nonprofit is a grass roots program that will assist the neediest and poorest individuals in the Community. Often times people worked and was able to take care of their home. They retired and noticed that the house they live in is beginning to need repairs. The homeowners monthly income is not able to cover the basic repairs. This is where Neighbor-link comes in by servicing the Community with volunteers who have a variety of talents that may be able to meet the requests from homeowners to keep rot and decay at bay.
I have always admired the dedication to the individuals who give so graciously of their time and talent to help others remain aging in place. Thank you Neighbor-link.
Great organization. A pleasure to work with on projects!
As an options counselor for CICOA Aging and In Home Solutions, the Area Agency on Aging for Central Indiana, I am familiar with and very thankful for the great work Dave and his team of volunteers offer through Neighborlink Indy. There have been enumerable clients that I have personally made referrals to Nlink for assistance and that have received reliable, assistance with a variety home accessibility modification projects. We greatly appreciate what Neighborlink Indy does and hope they continue to serve this region, and we are all very hopeful they will be able to continue to grow to accommodate the tremendous need for the important services they provide. Thanks Neighborlink!
As a phone options counselor in the CICOA Aging & Disability Resource Center, I have referred countless individuals to Neighborlink for assistance with modifications and light home repairs. When I conduct my monthly follow up surveys, the clients always have positive feedback about Neighborlink. Clients have indicated that their requests are generally responded to quickly, and the work is high quality/made to last. Our agency has partnered with Neighborlink for many years, and the Neighborlink staff/volunteers always try to assist with needs/clients referred from CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.
I have referred several seniors in our community to Neighborlink Indy. All of those I have referred can't say enough nice things about the assistance they received. The volunteers are kind, compassionate and helpful. The assistance they offer helps people remain safely in their homes. What a great asset to our community!!
Neighborlink helps fill a major service gap that exists in Indianapolis and Marion County, which is the lack of resources for home repairs. No other local organization exists that has accomplished what Neighborlink has accomplished with so little.
Neighborlink has been an excellent partner to CICOA since it's inception. We work together regularly to identify the best resources to serve at risk seniors in Marion county. Neighborlink makes referral to CICOA for clients with home modification and accessibility needs and CICOA refers to Neighborlink for more general home repair needs. This has been a great alliance which allows us to effectively serve those in need.
They are such a Godsend organization that helps those in need who may not have anyone else. Our agency loves working with them!
I have made numerous referrals to NeighborLink and the staff is so attentive and helpful. They have gone above and beyond to help our older adults in the community that have no other source of help, allowing them to remain safely in their homes. They are willing to take on various projects and do an excellent job. Amazing service!
Contacted Neighborlink regarding a couple living in a really difficult circumstance. Neighborlink mobilized and was able to help them clean out and make there residence a real
NeighborLink is the most concerned, caring, and helpful organization with which I have seen. They help elderly, disabled, and/or indigent folks in the Indianapolis area with many health and safety concerns in their homes. They are very thoughtful and caring in their approach to all situations. I couldn't be more appreciative of their efforts.
NeighborLink Indianapolis provides a great service to the Indianapolis area by helping seniors remain in their homes. It's great to see church and community groups getting involved in improving the lives of so many in need. I'm proud to play a small part in assisting the foundation and its group of dedicated and talented volunteers.
I have volunteered with NeighborLink, contributed donations to NeighborLink, and have also served as a community partner in a one year grant. NeighborLink is extremely compassionate to the people that they serve and they fill a need in the community that can not be overstated - ensuring that elderly and disabled homeowners can age in place and live with dignity in the place that they call home.
The issue is, can someone stay in their home or not. NeighborLink identifies those people in need of home repairs that are needed to keep them in their homes. These are safety items as well as local code violations. I am on the Gutter Team. Once a month several volunteers spend a Saturday morning replacing roof gutters on someone's home that probably has been sited by the city for code violations and cannot afford to make the repairs. This helps that homeowner and the neighborhood in general. The results are immediate and tangible.
this organization helps people in need, the poor, the elderly and others who cannot
manage through difficulties that life presents to them.
picture shows volunteers hard at work, filling a ditch after replacing a sewer line.
I got involved with NeighborLink when it was just a handful of recently retired men and women trying to help some low-income seniors stay in their own homes. This is an all volunteer outfit that works constantly to get seniors who lack resources (family, money, whatever) the home repairs and modifications necessary to keep their homes habitable. I've seen them put evicted homeowners back in their homes, I've seen them get burned homes rebuilt, I've seen clean water and functioning sewers returned to hundreds of homes, new roofs, new furnaces in freezing weather, hand rails, grab bars, health department citation resolutions - you name it. If it can drive a senior out of their home, NeighborLink has a way of helping. And I know personally that over 90% of donated funds go directly into the homes they assist. It's a great community based nonprofit. We need a lot more like them!
NeighborLink Indianapolis is fantastic. I worked with them to get a new roof and gutters installed for a low-income senior homeowner who is also disabled. NeighborLink bought the materials and located a roofing company that was willing to provide the roofing expertise and labor for free. They then organized a group of volunteers to install new gutters for the homeowner. All work was professionally performed, the results were outstanding and the homeowner was elated.
As a Geriatric Social Worker for Eskenazi Health, I interact with many Marion County seniors who have lived in their homes for a very long time. Most of them, more than 30 years. These seniors have been community leaders and contributors, but now find themselves with a limited income and a home that they cannot afford to maintain. NeighborLink offers opportunities to make their homes safe and maintained, so that they can continue to be happy and healthy in the neighborhood that they helped build. This amazing nonprofit organization also provides an opportunity for others to meet these wonderful citizens and give back to them a little of what the long time home owners have given to Indianapolis over their long lives.
