Causes: Homeless & Housing, Housing Expense Reduction Support
Mission: Nhssi revitalizes underserved neighborhoods by creating and preserving affordable housing and providing opportunities for homeowner education, assistance and community leadership. Working in partnership with government and business , nhssi is led by local residents and guided by local needs.
Programs: Lending - full cycle lending is a consumer friendly approach that addresses the needs of low and moderate income staten islanders and provides various forms of access to lending and mortgage programs including grants, low interest loans, purchase subsidies and closing cost assistance for qualified buyers.
sustainability - nhssi partners with various other organizations to educate the community and provide counseling about energy efficiency, green energy and conservation in order to make home ownership more affordable and viable for low and moderate income home owners.
education - includes training on personal financial management, foreclosure prevention, home maintenance, insurance matters, reverse mortgage program, first time buyer education and landlord training.
