Mission: To help improve academic success of students of southeast fort wayne.
Programs: The early learning program served 14 students in 2011. Homework help program provides help for students in kindergarten through the 11th grade. 132 students were served with the help of 50 volunteers in 2011. Two graduate students from ipfw, who already teach in fort wayne community schools, assessed the reading levels of a sampling number of the students who attended homework help program. The spring break reading program worked with 11 students. English as a new language program, often called english as a second language, provides class each evening year round. Trained volunteers from the reclamation project serve as teachers for the program. 22 students were served during 2011. The 4-h club worked with 69 students in 2011. The summer reading program served 87 youth. 53 volunteers worked with all programs of the neighborhood action center in 2011 as volunteer tutors and with other activities. Volunteers came from ipfw, the university of saint francis, brookside church, fellowship missionary church, huntertown united methodist church, winamac church of ohio, and the fort wayne community.
