I love Nehemiah. It’s the best place in Houston for a high school student to get volunteer experience. I enjoy tutoring math to the 3-5 graders.
Nehemiah is awesome. The staff is great so helpful. My kids love it the program and they help get is awesome.

My son attends the Nehemiah prekindergarten program. The progress he has made under Ms. Rosette is incredible. The curriculum is challenging and is preparing him for kindergarten!
The Nehemiah Center is a magical place for children and families. Their prek program is a godsend to many working families that want their children to get the best possible start in life. Their after school program ensures children are in a safe, loving and educational environment. Their college prep program, for children in 6th - 12th grade, helps children transition to adulthood whether that is with community college, trade school or a 4 year university. The Nehemiah Center has touched and improved countless families throughout the 20 plus years it has been in business. I hope the Nehemiah Center continues on for the next 20 years and for future generations.
The Nehemiah Center has it all! Exceptional pre-k classes are not only getting students ready for kindergarten, but also giving them the advantage they need to excel in school. The middle school offers a small class size environment for learning during the school years in which, for some children, is when they get lost in traditional schools. The after school program provides a safe place where children can get assistance with homework from college students that mentor and enrich their lives. The Nehemiah center also offers a summer program that includes a place to have safe fun with supervision and enriching activities to keep their minds stimulated. What better place to send a child in Houston?!
My son who is 11 years old now, has been a student at the center since he was in Kindergarten, coming from MacGregor Elem. for after school. I have a daughter also who has participated in both Prek 3 and Prek 4 now with them as well. I have really no words to express my gratitude as a parent to them for everything they have done at the Nehemiah for my kids and all the kids that attend. They have truly met our needs and have showned continuous support to us as a family. Glad to have both of my kids at Nehemiah and allow them to grow in a safe, inspiring, and spiritual place.
I am a volunteer tutor at the Nehemiah Center for their Academic Enrichment Program (after school) and have participated in the summer program as well. I go each week and always look forward to interacting with and tutoring the kids. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve the kids and their families. The passion the organization has for the people it serves is evident and contagious. Everyone who works here is dedicated, compassionate, and uplifting. They offer so much help for families, including during the hurricane Harvey aftermath. The teachers all care about the students' success and work hard to foster a learning environment for them. The center equips students with an education, support, and faith so they can have a bright future.
I have been a Nehemiah parent for about 5 years now and I am so grateful for everything they have thaught my boys. Both of my boys went the the prek program and went into Kingerdarden reading! All of their staff is amazing and try to help in any way they can. The Nehemiah center is truly a Blessing to the community!
I am so grateful for Nehemiah Center. it has given me the opportunity to serve God and my brothers and sisters in Houston. Children are being loved, fed, educated and enriched with the Word. What a blessing.
I always "adopt a family" at Christmas. I also donate money to their fundraisers. Nehemiah does great things with the families that use their services. Whenever I have been by to take the gifts, the children are well cared for and seem so happy!
I have associated with the Center for over ten years, first as a mentor in the after school program, as a long time donor, board director, and co founder of the Nehemiah Middle School. The Center has an exceptional and dedicated staff who are committed to provide families and children of Houston's inner city with love, encouragement, social and educational skills to change lives to succeed and excel. Their gifts are long term gifts that provide a strong foundation for these families and children.
The Nehemiah Center has had an amazing progression from its founding, adding programs in response to needs of the constituents it serves. The current Director of the center is an amazing manager and inspiration and example for the students and their families. She is totally dedicated to the students and their families in a role to help the children served achieve their potential. The Middle School has an equally amazing and dedicated Director who has made this endeavor happen. My congratulations to these two women and their staff and volunteers for accomplishing so much in support, education, confidence-building, and promoting Christian and family values for the children and families fortunate enough to be part of the Nehemiah Family.
I've been to several events and even visited the school. I was highly impressed with the staff, the cleanliness of the school and the students. The fact the they've been able to accomplish so much and the impact they've had on the students is why I thought about how I could send my own child to the Nehemiah Center! I had an opportunity to attend a Nehemiah event and was blown away at the things they are doing for the youth in the community. The testimonies from former students were inspiring to say the least. I wish there were more programs like this.
I volunteered for years with the preschool class at Nehemiah Center. From amazing, educational, compassionate outreach to families, to the dedication of the staff to bettering the lives of the children....this place is outstanding. The children who attend Nehemiah are cherished from the moment they arrive. Their lives are forever altered by the faith filled experience that is their day. The teachers are more than competent/loving/supportive. The support staff as professional as it comes. The community support for Nehemiah is like nothing I have witnessed in all my years of volunteering. People want to be a part of a program like this. Nehemiah Center is simply the best this City has to offer.
Nehemiah attracts volunteers & staff members who are devoted to youth. Students enjoy learning in a positive atmosphere. When you walk through its doors you feel love, compassion & commitment to learning. I love Nehemiah!!
The Nehemiah Center is a blessing to underprivileged families across a large part of the greater Houston area, offering after-school enrichment and tutoring, preschool, parenting, English as a second language, and many other services to this under-served community. This is done through a very capable and committed staff backed up by a strong Board. I have never known a non-profit that derived greater leverage from the resources it receives, and you can see the results in the smiles on the faces of children and families who come to the center.
What a wonderful organization and all the people that work at Nehemiah center. I have been on th DEvelope committee, and served on the Board of Directors. What a joy to work with all the wonderful people who work there serving the children and families. Over the many years it has been rewarding to see the children come to the center,grow up and be honorable adults-loving God and coming back to mentor younger children. Good work! GInny Burge
The Nehemiah Center is a culturally RICH family. I say family because from the day I enrolled my daughter (who has been with the Center since she was 3 years old) the staff embraced me and my daughter with open arms (Mrs. Bolanos - gosh she is such a joy!). In this world full of chaos, the Nehemiah Center has been a place of consistent calm. Ms. Labbe, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Rosette (this teacher cares about your child's education and success!!) have been reliable and dependable. As a parent who has faced financial difficulties in my life, I can say that I utilized the Center to assist in my job search. The Center encourages friendships and fairness! I am a FAN of the Center! The Center is Houston's best kept secret. May God Bless and Keep the Nehemiah Family!
