Nauset Neighbors is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. Volunteers provide all of the effort needed to help the seniors (members) we serve. We are a nonprofit corporation, a 501(c) (3) charitable organization, and a state recognized charity.

Our mission is to help seniors. We provide volunteer support to help our members stay in their homes and remain active in our community for as long as possible. We provide a caring service that makes it easy for seniors to get rides to appointments, expand their contacts with others, and get help with some of the complexity in their lives.

We are a membership organization. Members (seniors) pay an annual fee of $120 for a single member or $140 for a household. The membership fee will be reduced or waived if it presents a hardship or an obstacle to joining.

We began planning in the fall of 2009 and started delivering services early in 2011. We currently have over 160 members and over 220 volunteers.

As seniors age and can no longer drive or do the small things around the house, it becomes hard to remain at home. Yet remaining at home as long as possible can be crucial for emotional and financial reasons. Our volunteers make a difference.

The demand for membership is growing and, at times, we have had to institute a waiting list because the number of new members we can accept is limited by the number of new volunteers. We are recruiting volunteers, and the more volunteers we have, the more members we can serve.

We have no central office. Instead, we use modern collaborative software technology to create a “virtual office.” Our members simply use a single phone number, (508) 514-7067, to reach our volunteer office staff.

Our volunteers communicate with us either by phone, email or sign up using an online listing of needed services to provide help to members.

Nauset Neighbors is part of the Village to Village Network , whose aim is to exchange information and experience related to these types of communities. We are modeled after Beacon Hill Village in Boston, which was founded in 2001. The need for villages such as Nauset Neighbors is growing as our population ages. There are now eight open villages in Massachusetts, including ones in Falmouth and on Martha's Vineyard. There are currently over 100 others nationwide, over 120 in the planning stages and the numbers are constantly growing. Each village is unique to its area and resources.
