Mission: To provide preparatory education in grades 5 through 8, with full scholarship, to new bedford boys of any race, creed, or culture whose family income is 60% or below the massachusetts estimated median.
Programs: Nativity preparatory school new bedford (npnb) was founded in 2000 and completed its ten year re-accreditation through the new england association of school and colleges (neas&c)in 2015. Students are accepted into grade 5 or 6 on full scholarship through grade 8. Npnb operates on an extended day schedule wth frequent saturday field trip programming. Classroom teachers are americorps teaching fellows, coached by on-staff education veterans. Npnb is a member of neas&c and the national association of independent schools (nais). Since 2003, 171 students have completed the npnb course of study.
npnb fs grant funded alumni support program prepares eighth graders for high school, provides check-in during the high school years and offers guidance for college or career decisions. Nativity alums finish high school at a 95% rate, 80% receive college acceptance, 20% enter the workforce. Nine alumni received faculty scholarship fund awards totaling $31,000. Eight attend bishop stang high school and one attends falmouth academy.
npnb fs summer program, stella maris, is re ]made and better than ever. Re-envisioning multiple opportunities for orientation, skill-building, and fun, all new students and faculty join returning students and faculty on campus for a burst of summer academic programming. Equal parts aclimation and study, students and faculty get to know each other during regular classes in the morning. Students leave after lunch for an afternoon of boating, biking, or exploring the richness of the new bedford community. After a two week hiatus students attend ymca camp massasoit for two-three weeks in august.
