Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Health

Mission: The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is dedicated to the prevention of vaccine injuries and deaths through public education and to defending the informed consent ethic in vaccine policies and laws. As an independent clearinghouse for information on diseases and vaccines, NVIC does not advocate for or against the use of vaccines. We support the availability of all preventive health care options, including vaccines, and the right of consumers to make educated, voluntary health care choices.

Results: NVIC's co-founders worked with Congress on the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, which acknowledged that vaccine injuries and deaths are real and that the vaccine injured and their families should be financially supported and that vaccine safety protections were needed in the mass vaccination system. The law set up a federal vaccine injury compensation program, as well as included legal requirements for vaccine providers to give parents vaccine benefit and risk information before their children are vaccinated; keep written records of vaccine manufacturer names and lot numbers for each vaccination given; enter serious health problems following vaccination into a child's permanent medical record; and report serious health problems following vaccination to the federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS). In 1996, NVIC realized a major goal when, after 14 years of public advocacy, the FDA finally licensed a purified pertussis vaccine (DTaP vaccine) for American babies. In 1999, the live virus polio vaccine (OPV) was replaced by the inactivated polio vaccine and vaccine strain paralytic polio cases were eliminated in America. Co-founders and members of NVIC have also represented consumers on the Advisory Commission on Childhood Vaccines, the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, the Institute of Medicine's Vaccine Safety Forum, the FDA Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, the Vaccine Policy Analysis Collaborative, and the Consumers United for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Cochrane Collaboration – U.S. In 1989, the organization held an International Scientific Workshop attended by pediatric neurologists, epidemiologists, neuroimmunologists, molecular biologists, bacteriologists and neuropathologists to evaluate the neurological complications of pertussis and the whole cell pertussis vaccine. In 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2009 NVIC held the International Public Conference on Vaccination, which brought together more than 500 doctors, scientists, health officials, lawyers, ethicists, journalists and parents from 34 states and five countries to the U.S. Capitol to present new scientific data about vaccines and diseases and discuss the biological mechanism of vaccine-induced injury, death and chronic illness. Since 1982, NVIC has reached millions of families and provided information about diseases and vaccines to thousands of parents, health care providers and other individuals around the world through our free NVIC Vaccine E-newsletter, website and social media efforts. NVIC also operates a Vaccine Reaction Registry, and online public forums on vaccine harassment and failures. In 2010 the NVIC Advocacy Portal was launched as a public service to provide support and information on changes in state vaccine policy and laws, which has created a grassroots network of activists engage to protect vaccine informed consent.

Target demographics: The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is dedicated to the prevention of vaccine injuries and deaths through public education and to defending the informed consent ethic in medicine.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year alone NVIC responded with life-saving information to over 9,000 individuals who contact us annually with questions about vaccines and disease.

Geographic areas served: The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is a national charitable, non-profit educational organization founded in 1982. NVIC launched the vaccine safety and informed consent movement in America in the early 1980's and is the oldest and largest consumer led organization advocating for the institution of vaccine safety and informed consent protections in the public health system.

Programs: Since 1982, NVIC has operated a Vaccine Reaction Registry and provides the public with a forum to post vaccine harassment and failure reports to our website, as well as founded the International Memorial for Vaccine Victims. NVIC’s website also provides to the public information on vaccines and disease to support informed decision-making, and many other resources which provide more information about infectious diseases, vaccines, and new research into healing therapies for vaccine related illness and disability. In 2010 NVIC’s Advocacy portal was launched to provide the public with analysis and legislative alerts on vaccine policy and law changes in each state and has since built a nationwide network of educated citizens activists to advocate for informed consent protections in vaccine law and policy.

In a time where our society is saturated with information, we are learning to be efficient navigators. However, this takes a lot of time. I trust NVIC as a source of factual and valuable information regarding the political and medical vaccine agendas. Their team does the research I cannot do. Since knowing about and following the work of NVIC I am keenly aware of the medical propaganda we're shown. NVIC helps me to cross check the media and has given me the knowledge to better communicate with others about the physical, financial and mental costs of vaccines.

NVIC We are glad that you feel empowered to cross check what you are reading and educating yourself. That is really what NVIC is about, empowering consumers to educate themselves to make informed decisions relating to vaccines. Be well!

I was given the shingles and Prevnar13 on the same day and in the same arm 10 months ago. I still have side affects. Swelling in my arm up my throat, in my face and onto my other arm. I turn a purple red at worst. I become breathless and hoarse throat. I'm very fatigued and emotional feeling fragile. I get nowhere talking with Sanford clinic. Hope to talk to the higher ups. Every organization from FDA CDC MERK and PHIZER tell me to go to the live virus information and they should follow that directive which states no other immunization with in 28 days. This organization has been very helpful

I just had a great experience with Gina Bernazzani of NVIC. I had a question regarding immunization laws in the 1990s, and although there were no relevant records in the NVIC files, Gina went out of her way to search for other sources that could be useful. I had tried searching online myself and found nothing, so Gina must have really worked hard to find these three different documents. Kudos to Gina for being so dedicated to public health!

I contacted the NVIC twenty years ago when my son whom I thought had totally recovered from autism became very ill again following a measles booster shot. I have followed their work ever since. Becoming autistic twice in one lifetime is two times too often. If you are looking for unbiased, scientific information regarding vaccines, NVIC is the place to turn to. I will be forever grateful for their amazing work, unrelenting focus and commitment to the truth.

As a parent, I found the Vaccine Policy & Law Reform Guide especially helpful in preparing for a mandatory meeting at the health department in order to obtain a vaccination waiver. NVIC does a fabulous job in clarifying the issues!

The National Vaccine Information Center has been a reliable and accurate source of support and information for me raising my children, as each vaccine has to be evaluated based upon its risk/benefit. I never would have known the "other side of the story" - how many vaccine damaged children are really out there. Parents have a right to know the risk/benefit information related to each vaccine, so they can make informed choices for their children.

So very thankful for a non-bias resource to help support my journey. So much information is available on the topic of vaccines and I have found NVIC to "top notch". NVIC is able to explain and source answers to questions related to vaccines and vaccine safe that is very helpful. I would recommend anyone interested in seeking knowledge on vaccines add NVIC to their resource list.

I was first introduced to NVIC 5 years ago at a Conference in Virginia. The entire organization from top to bottom is run with integrity. Everyone I met, volunteers, staff and representatives of NVIC were professional, knowledgeable and mission driven. What I really loved was the research and facts they brought to the conversation around vaccines, both documented and sourced. They do not tell people what to do, rather provide the information for consumer to make informed decisions. Thank you NVIC!!

I had emailed NVIC inquiring if they knew why animal vaccines do NOT contain adjuvants, even with multiple dose vials. There is no mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, etc. in animal vaccines.
Also it is interesting to note that AVMA policy is now to only vaccinate every 3 yrs. It had been yearly. Titers to measure antibodies are also often used in pets, to determine if vaccine is actually 'needed'. It appears that vet med is more concerned with the welfare of their animal patients and/or their owners.
NVIC was very prompt in sending a helpful reply to my email.

Exemption information is a commonly asked question and we work hard to keep our state vaccine law pages up to date so that this information is at your fingertips! So glad that you got a quick response and hope that you will check out your state page too!
