Mission: Nscf funds adult stem cell research, scholarships for middle-school science teachers, efforts to increase the donor pool for bone marrow transplants and programs that connect children with limited resources to clinical trials for rare diseases.
Programs: Accomplishments include development of a collaborative project between funded researchers on both coasts going to the international space station (iss) to advance science in the field of neurodegenerative disease. Connecting research to education, astronauts on the iss will speak to students in middle school classrooms affiliated with the national stem (science, technology, engineering & math) scholar program. The 2017 development of a second partnership with the orthopaedic research & education foundation (oref) to fund clinical trials to repair/regenerate bone, muscle or tendons, and a new fund at duke university's pediatric blood & marrow transplant (pbmt) program to help children of limited means participate in clinical trials to advance research into therapies for rare diseases.
